Partial Entity Class With Shared Extension Not Associated With 'other' Partial Class In Client Using RIA Services?
Apr 21, 2011I have extended an Entity Framework 4 entity class with a calculated property in a partial class. This member is not available on the client to which the entities are exposed via WCF RIA Services.when using C# appears to be changing the extension of the partial class file from .cs to .shared.cs. I tried this with my VB.Net solution (.vb to .shared.vb) and got a long list of errors. I believe what happened is that the partial class lost its association with the entity on the client - it inherited from object rather than EntityObject.
My best guess is that this is related to the way that VB.Net handles namespaces.Each project has a 'Root Namespace' which is prepended to anything that is defined within a code file. C# has a 'Default Namespace'which is the namespace into which new types are placed by default - via a namespace statement within the file.The partial class is probably having the client namespace prepended to it which puts it into a different namespace than the entity with which it is associated on the server.Is there any means of extending an entity in such a way that those extensions are available on the client via WCF RIA Services and VB.Net?
C# - Serializable Partial Classes?

Inside another file I have the same thing (with different methods and variables of course). When I compile, I get the following error:Attribute 'SerializableAttribute' cannot be applied multiple times.The error is pretty self explanatory. My question is though, if I just mark the one class as Serializable(), can I assume the entire class with be marked as serializable()? In other words, Do I only need the serializable() tag in 1 spot in the class?

The issue with this approach is when double click on this item in VS2008 IDE it shows new empty form, not MainForm UI. It looks like VS2008 does not support multiple partial classes for a Forms.
Asp.net - Accessing Values From Partial Classes?
Sep 2, 2011I'm still learning so this might be completely wrong. I have built a multi-user web application for internal purposes. I have split my code up to make it more manageable and have run into some problems. I suspect that I have done something very silly!
I have a class in a separate file (quoteStatus.vb) in App_Code here it is:

This seems really wrong, as the value seems to be held in the partial class after the first run. So if I have two users accessing the class the public shared dim is changed for both users! There must be a better way to do this. I have looked everywhere and I'm more confused now than when I started off..How can I make QuoteStatus in the partial class unique to every user and access it from my code.

Feb 16, 2011I'm writing a WCF-Service and I split up my service class to multiple partial class files, so every ServiceContract-Implementation gets its own file. I have one file however that should contain e.g. members that are used by every partial class file such as a logger. The service is hosted with IIS 7 if this matters in any way.

The code compiles fine, but at runtime I get an BC30451: The name m_Log is not declared Error (Don't know the exact words for it. I get a german message ;) ). I don't think it has something to do with the type of m_Log or a depending assembly because I get the same error if i try this with a String. What am I doing wrong? How can I make this work? Edit: I was trying the same thing in a simple console application without any problems. :(
Using Partial Classes To Make Two Equivalent Codebehind Pages In VB
Jun 15, 2012We are using T4 to generate our .aspx and .vb files. Everything works well - but we often have to customize behavior on the pages. However, we also occasionally have to regenerate pages - which has the potential to wipe out work which would otherwise still be valid. I would like a setup like this:
Default.aspx 'which would contain the controls
Default.aspx.vb 'which would bind, load and save data
Default.behaviour.vb '(or something like that) - which would store the behavior
With both the pages being able to reference the controls. Is that at all possible? [Code]
Why Does Changing Solution Platforms Stop Partial Classes From Being Seen
Nov 18, 2010There is an older version of the software which works fine on all of our deployment platforms, but the version I am trying to push out is working fine on 32-bit desktop installations, but is crashing-and-burning when it attempts to access Crystal Reports and Informix installed DLLs on a 64-bit machine, running terminal server sessions (yeah, I know, could I change anything more about the deployment platform?)One of the suggested avenues of investigation was changing the solution platform from "Any CPU" to x86.On attempting to do this, Visual Studio seems to stop being able to connect the partial classes constructed by XAML objects, with objects declaring that they have no "InitializeComponent" methods, and then failing on down the line until I reach the maximum number of errors.
Oddly, changing the solution platform, and then rebuilding in Expression Blend compiles just fine. Changing the platform back to AnyCPU makes the problem disappear. All projects have compile and debug configurations set to Active. I can't see any reason why simply changing the targeted platform would stop the XAML from generating partial classes Okay, it seems to be that there are some external DLLs to the project, and that those are the cause of what I'd call the first-level compilation failure, as they don't seem to contain any classes once the target platform has switched.In VS2008, this causes the cascading failure of absolutely nothing working at all, as described above, but at one point I somehow managed to import the project to VS2010 with only those errors in place (missing classes, etc.), without the rest of the project imploding.I'm now working on reconstructing those classes from those DLLs, and hopefully will be able to get together a project that will compile on multiple target platforms by the end of the day.

Implementing .Net RIA Services With Silverlight3 Using Only Existing Code / Classes?
Oct 20, 2009As my latest questions have stated, i am in a process of researching on Silverlight 3 and its application as a suitable RIA solution to a pre-built project a client of ours wishes to webify. And my experience in .Net and silverlight is about 3 - 4 weeks.I have now become aware of .Net RIA Services. I require to use an existing VB class; which was created as a quick wrapper class to emulate a small piece of the client's application code. This is used as a proof of concept. It contains one function which uses the client's DLL files to return a simple data type This class has already been used successfully with Flex/Weborb combination.I unfortunately do not have enough knowledge or experience in Silverlight/RIA Services to grasp what it is i have to do to get the file working. All the examples I find online only specify the method where you use a database as dataSource etc.Could you please inform me how i would go about implementing RIA Services with Silverlight 3, using existing code/classes with no DB? Or could you point me in a direction for further research on the matter?

So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:
interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc
This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.

Authorize.Net Partial Authorization ?
Jun 13, 2011I am making changes to my companies internal paysite in order to come into compliance with the new credit card regulations. We have decided that when we get a split tender transaction that comes through we want to get the remaining balance along with how much was on the card to start out with and send that info back to the customer service rep with a message relaying the need for another payment source along with the remaining balance and the amount that was originally on the card.
Instead of chaining the transactions together with the split tender Id we have decided we would like to finalize each split tender transaction with a prior_auth_capture and then request the next payment source and amount and process that transaction in the same manner. I know that we are side stepping the functionality some but those are my orders.
My questions are, is this feasible and possible and how do you do this in code? I am using the C# SDK to implement this in VB.NET 2008
My thoughts are that I would have to process the transaction for the amount passed as a auth_capture transaction and then some how do the prior_auth_transaction with a zero amount or something?
Extracting Partial Information Of XML?

I will need to create text files with different formats from the same data depending on the request. My idea is to create a design that will require no coding if such formats are to change of be added.I was thinking in using some sort of XML magic trick to accomplish this but I have no idea how to. At the top of those files, VS names the 'Partial Class' name the file structure and/or name of the aspx file.
The question: Is there a best practice for this? Can I just use a single class name for all the pages in my application or perhaps a single directory instead of having to give each one a unique name?

Jul 16, 2009I am reading a book (ASP.NET 3.5 Enterprise Application Development with Visual Studio 2008: Problem Design Solution, WROX)The source code is written in C#, but I am a VB guy, so I am giving it a try. Somewhere in the 2nd chapter, there is a Linq to Sql file used that is generated by drag&dropping the DB tables from the Database Explorer. Because some tables have the same type of fields, there is an interface generated called IENTBaseEntity. The writer says its a good practice to implement this interface in another partial class (not the designer.vb file!). The reason for this is that when the LinqToSql file is modified (and regenerated) the changes wont be lost.
In C# this solution is easy to do (i think), but in VB.Net I get an error, because the concerning properties in the LinqToSql file do not append the 'Implement IENTBaseEntity.Property' line. When I press [Enter] after the interface implementation line, VS generates other properties like this
