Dec 18, 2010Deviding an int by zero, will throw an exception, but a float won't - at least in Java. Why a float have an additional NaN info, while int haven't?

May 18, 2010My program works through each cell in a raster bitmap loooking at the r g b values. Actually I'm just working with greyscale so r = g = b. I use the get pixel method to return the 8 bit value of each pixel (0 - 255). However I'm now working with a single channel 32 bit float bitmap. I can't load it into VB. I tried Dim myBitmap As New Bitmap(OpenFileDialog1.FileName) but this fails with an unspecified error when trying to open a 32 bit tiff.
The question is: which graphics format will allow me to load a 32bit bitmap into VB, and if I succeed will the getpixel method return 32bit float results for the greyscale level for each pixel?

Convert Integer To Float?
Jun 20, 2009OK so in this hex editor I have, Hex Workshop, when I search for a 32 bit float i type in (lets just say) 1. It then spits it back at me in a 32 bit float, but also as hex.
the 32 bit float for 1 = 3F80 0000
I really cant grasp this idea, let alone put it into my program.

Game - Float Points Away?
May 15, 2010I'm building a card game called 11-UP. See the game here.I've gotten to the point where I need to make scores show up when the selected cards have a sum of 11. For example, if the card is worth 200 points, then "200" should become visible for about a second and then "float away".
I know I can do this with a timer and the location property. I was thinking of creating an array of 22 timers, one for each card. When the selected cards have a sum of eleven, I enable the timers for each selected card. The timer makes the "score" for that card appear, then move up a few times, then vanish.
Does anyone have a better way to do it? Maybe with only one timer?Also, how could I make the "scores" become more transparent as time advances? I'd like to make them not only float away, but also "disolve."

where VATPercentage = 20D is declared as Decimal type. pListPrice = 25.2D is declared Decimal too.
The result should be: 21.00 sharp!
Instead I get 20.99999999999999999999D
Bug On Rounding On Division And MOD Of Integers?
Feb 11, 2012I have a group of 25 labels named Label1, Label2, Label3, ... Label25 in a square of 5 per row, 5 per column and I wanted to assign the backcolor to all of them on a loop and assign a value of "True" or "False" to a matrix of 25 boolean values representing them.
But I was getting errors on the pattern created.
My approach was to use a substring containing a number copied from the label names:
Num = Val(sender.name.substring(5))
And the subindexes of the matrix:
p = (Num - 1) / 5
q = (Num - 1) Mod 5
The values for the lower corner of the matrix were rouded to 5 instead of being 4. Instead of (4,0) ,(4,1), (4,2), (4,3) (4,4) I was getting (5,0),(5,1)...(5,5)
So I solved the problem by creating two single variables "A" and "B", doing the divission and MOD operations on them, finding the floor of them and then converting to integer:

This was easy to do in C as I created a union with a 4-byte array and a 32-bit float. Job done. However I have no idea how to accomplish this in VB (pls note I do not code in VB).

Profiling indicates that the function is called a lot (1 million times plus) and spends about 50% of the overall calculation within this function. Here is the problematic portion
Result = (A * (E ^ C)) / (D ^ C * B) (where A-C are local double variables and D & E global double variables)
Result is then compared to a threshold which might have additional improvements as well, but I'll leave them another day

Jan 30, 2010Simple Calculator multiplication and division Trying to make a simple calculator. My program inputs numbers and arithmetic operations thru commandbuttons. The numbers, num(n-+1), are odd and the operations, op(n), are even. The code is based on the even op string. Every time a op occurs it is stored in numop(n) to be accessed later. I have all the other operations in sequential order: "*"," "/, "+" and "-". The other similar For-Next loop are the same just interchange the two * for /, +and -. The "+" and "-" work fine in this configuration.
My problem is the multiplication and division does not occur. The numbers and operations line up. The numop(m)=g*h should yield numop(m)=num(1)*num(3). Is there some sort of code to be inserted to accomplish these multiplication and division operations?
