We are four in a team using a data entry application created using VB and MS Access as backend DB. The application is installed on all our PCs, but uses my PC as server. We enter data at same time. The application has been slow since we started using it. We were advised to increase the internet bandwidth, which we doubled, but the application is still slow. What can be done to increase the speed of the application to make work move faster?
i am trying to complete a project. My task is to read large TXT files (300 files, 2.2 GB in total) read the customers inside, perform some data calculation and write each customer data to a separate txt file.
I made a code in VB6, it runs fine, however it takes 8 days to run on a quadcore processor, utilizing 20-30% of the CPU. Now I upgraded the code and am running on VB.NET 2008, the latest version. The speed still remains the same, and the CPU usage is also about the same.
Anyway I can make this process faster. I have a quadcore PC with 8GB of ram, possible to maybe make VB utilize all the CPU say 100%? so it executes atleast 2 to 3 times faster.

I have created a code in VB.NET to read data from text files. Data is read from a list of files, where each file is changed using a for loop. Data is written to a new text files. Each file is read one by one and written in the same way. Now, my speed of execution is very slow. I am using a Quadcore processor with only 20-30% of CPU utilization when my code runs. Is there anyway I can increase the speed of reading and writing? To read only 125 files it takes 10 minutes or more, which is very slow indeed, because in the end I need to read thousands of files and write them. Each file is approxiamately 30-50kb.
Here is my code.
Public Sub ReadRMRDataFileIntoTextFiles() 'Read in the customerids once up front Dim customerids As Collections.Generic.List(Of String)

I'm trying to code an 'increase' button to prompt a user to input a rate by which to increase select prices in an array. It should request the increased rate, then request a number from one to five, representing which price in the array to increase. Then, if 'increase' button is selected again and another number from one to five is chosen, then that element should be increased. It's working, but all the numbers in the array are changed. And, when I hit the increase button again, the array is repopulated below the first price increases instead of only replacing the designated price.
'declare 5 element array of prices Dim prices() As Double = {12.2, 8.5, 12, 50, 2.4} Dim rateIncrease As Decimal Dim isConverted As Boolean

I have tried looking at "related" questions for answers to this but they don't seem to actually be related...Basically I have a VB.Net application with a catalogue, administration section (which can alter the catalogue, monitor page views etc etc) and other basic pages on the customer front end. When I compile and run the app on my local machine it seems to compile fairly quickly and run very fast. However when deployed on the server it seems to take forever and a day on the very first page load (no matter what page it is, how many stylesheets / JS files there are, how many images there are, how big the page markup is and so on). After this ALL the pages load really fast. My guess is this is due to having to load the code from scratch; after that, until it is recycled, the application runs perfectly fast. Does anyone have any idea how I could speed this part of the application up? I am afraid that some customers
My application works fine. However, I am connecting to 5 DBF files and the queries are very slow.[If I copy the DBF files to the local hard drive everything runs fast enough. 30-40 seconds vs. 1-1.5 minutes]The DBF needs to stay on the network.I am hoping that using the index will speed things up enough. Can anyone tell me how or give me a code example on how to index on DBF files?
I'm using paging in a WinForm application (VB.NET) using the code below. This works fine, but when I click on the column header this will only sort the rows from one page. If I move to the next page, the sorting is gone.[code]...

I am using VS 2010 on Win 7 32 bit.I am debugging a VB application (simple Windows form) by stepping through it with F8; however, for some unknown reason it sporadically runs at full speed after I press the F8 key. This can happen at any given location in code and sometimes not at all.

I am a newbie using VB.net in VS 2008. I took over a vb.net winform application that has a binding navigator in it. The users wanted to add 2 new fields to the form. I added the new fields to the SQL Server 2005 database. I refreshed the Data Source tab in the project. It recognizes the 2 new fields.
I dragged them onto the form. When I go to add a record through the application, it does NOT save these 2 new fields. I check the properties for these 2 new fields under "Data Bindings" and it shows under the "Text" property the correct Binding Source and column name. I need to store these 2 new fields to the table.
I am currently developing a WPF application that will utilize existing WinForm dialogs. I'm experiencing a long lag between the time I call ShowDialog() on a WinForm to the time it is displayed.Even when reusing WinForm dialog objects the lag time is nearly as bad on the second hit. Meaning that the problem isn't in the constructor. have a work around to increase speed or know why the speed is so slow?

I'm a total newbie in programming. I have question about the deployment of winform application. I have created a winform application. But I'm not sure if the users have installed .Net version 4. I have put my winform application at my website and the users will download it to desktop.
My question is: How to automate the process of downloading and install .Net 4 if users have not install it? What are the recommended ways of deploying winform applications to users?
