C# - Method To Find / Eliminate Repetitive Strings?

Aug 14, 2011

I am trying to find a solution, in eliminating repetitive string names, say for ex.,in a literal field, i am populating names of the contributor of certain article's history version, and so, if "ron" has contributed to the versioning of an article 3 times, the name "ron" gets added to this literal control, and outputs "ron" 3 times.

Eliminate, "Cannot Find Add-in 'mscoree.dll" When A Setup Program Is Used To Deploy A

Nov 1, 2011

I'm trying to create a COM User Defined Function automation add in for Excel 2003/2007/2010 and create a setup program that will install the add-in without the error message "Cannot find add-in 'mscoree.dll'. Delete from list?" occurring when the automation add-ins added to excel. This error occurs when running the setup program on PCs other than the development PC.

Using this example by Eric Carter combined with this Stack overflow answer. I have tried both methods of registering both the custom dll and mscoree.dll. Solutions for this problem are well described in both of those links however neither the registry edit of the setup program described in the stackoverflow link nor the code from the other link that should register mscoree.dll works for me when installing with a setup project on another PC (64 bit Windows 7 PC not used for building the program). (In fact the last comment on the Stack overflow link is a person with the exact same problem that I am describing here.) The add-in does work, I just want to prevent the error message.

Find Strings Inside Strings?

Aug 15, 2011

I have been looking for examples to find the string between two strings. This top one works fine;

Public Sub ReadData(ByRef keywordStart As String, ByRef keywordEnd As String, ByVal filename As String)
Using reader = New StreamReader(filename)

[Code].....

Now the first one is fine - Ext_Volume is result of the string between the strings <Volume> and </Volume>. <Volume> and </Volume> are unique so this is straight forward.

However the second one - "^FDExp:" is unique, but "^FS" is not unique. There are occurances of "^FS" before and after "^FDExp:".

How do I get the string to search AFTER the occurrence, not before etc?

Overload The Method To Allow Strings Instead Of Integer

I am working on this project and I am suppose to overload the method to allow strings instead of integer. Allow the user optionally add a thried string from a third text box. Okey I am trying to under stand this good. This is the code I have:

This is my overload class

Public Class OverloadEx

[CODE]........................

So with my overload class instead of integer I should put string there? If the user clicks the add button it will allow the user to add all 3 text boxes but when the user click the add string it will allow the user to add all three text boxes to string. So do I click the add string button to overload it to that one just like I did with the add?

Find Strings In A String?

Mar 11, 2011

I have a string, and I want to search it for multiple strings, which I basically want to use for searching for urls in an HTML file that's been loaded into a string.

so get the value of everything between

href="http:// and the next " and return it (I want to check each one separately and do different things with them, so maybe add them to an array that I can loop through?)

preferably simple short code than highly functioning code

Gridview Not Have Repetitive Column Names?

Feb 3, 2011

I have to create a report that lists tests that a student has taken and how they answered each question...the column header layout (roughly) looks like:

Test #1 1 2 3 4 5 Test #2 1 2 3 4 5
TestA A B C D E TestB C C B C E

The problem is that the Gridview doesn't seem to like repetitive column names and is renaming the second set of Question #s to something else.

Repetitive Image Loads To A PictureBox?

Aug 27, 2010

I am trying to do repetitive loads of images to one picture box. That is: An image is loaded to the picture box from a bitmap image.It is done this way so the image can be scrolled using the mouse.That works fine.The image is loaded from a file.When I attempt to load a second image from a file, I get an error indicating that the resource has not been released.I have tried Dispose() etc, nothing seems to be working.I started with VB 1.0 and worked up through VB6 over the years and am now transitioning to VS 2010. A bit of a neck snapper, but it seems to be worth it.

VS 2005 : Create A Source To Get The Strings From The Text File Using ReadLine Method?

Aug 22, 2010

I need a bit of advice. I am working on my project with the listbox. I know how to create a source to get the strings from the text file using ReadLine method, but I have no idea how to split the strings in the text file by on the third commas and ignore the other strings while select with the matched strings on the listbox for each row.Here it is an example listbox Here it is an example items on the listbox

random item 1
random item 2
random item 3
random item 4
random item 5

And here it is an example text file.

example strings one, any strings 1, any random strings 1, other strings 1, final end of strings 1
example strings two, any strings 2, any random strings 2, other strings 2, final end of strings 2
example strings three, any strings 3, any random strings 3, other strings 3, final end of strings 3
example strings four, any strings 4, any random strings 4, other strings 4, final end of strings 4
example strings five, any strings 5, any random strings 5, other strings 5, final end of strings 5

The listbox is display the list of an example items, so if I select the "random item 1" item on the listbox, it read the strings through in the text file on the first line to get the strings on the third commas in the same line which it is (any random strings 1) to split it while ignore the other strings (other strings 1, final end of strings 1) that come fourth and fifth commas. So, if I select the "random item 2" item on the listbox, it read the the strings through in the text file on the second line to get the strings on the third commas in the same line which it is (any random strings 2) to split it while ignore the other strings (other strings 2, final end of strings 2) that come fourth and fifth commas and so on...That is what I am trying to achieve by select the each listbox item to get the correct strings for each line in the text file that come on the third commas while to ignore the other strings.

Repetitive Statements - Alternative To A Function Or Subroutine?

Jun 15, 2009

Repetitive Statements: Looking for an alternative to a function or subroutine. Years ago, I wrote programs for a company using a language called "Algol", I am sure some of you know of it and but many more do not, it is a pretty old language. It had a capability that I used called a "Define" where you could take a statement (for example x = y + z ) and create a 'define' which was a simple, short replication of that statement. (x=y+z) could be defined as 'mysum'. You could then use 'mysum' any where in the program in place of the 'x=y+z' statement.

[Code]...

Is there a similar type capability in Visual Basic? A sub routine does not satisfy the need unless the variables x, y and z are globally dimensioned to the module? I can do this, but would prefer not to. I am expect there is a similar capability, but I personally have only scratched the surface of the VB capabilities.

Repetitive Code That References Components Of Main Form?

Form1 was then underlined and I get this message:Handles clause requires WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types.I think I'm headed in the right direction, but what exactly am I looking for? String Searching - Find Records That Does Not Have This List Of Strings In

Jun 12, 2011

I have a problem finding strings that do not exist in a column in a database. I am going to use linq but its more the 'way' of doing I am concerned with.

I have strings like;
MEAL
GPST
EXLEG
EXLG ...etc

I need to find records that does not have this list of strings in, so for example DBML BUT sometimes I can have the string MEALDBML, or more concatenated. So this is a known string of MEAL and unknown string of DBML. I would then want to see that record. I do not know the unknown strings up front, so its a case of feeding in the strings I know are ok, and finding one that are outside that list. I was also thinking of regex?

VS 2010 Find, Replace Certain Strings In Text Files?

May 19, 2012

First it might sound like an ordinary task but keep reading it isn't. I can't figure out how to find a phrase in a text file, and replace it with something else. Tried lots of things but always ending up with empty hands.

Suppose there's a text file in this order:

valueabc=6000.0000
valuettt=200.0000
valuexyz=7000.0000

I want to;

1) Find the phrase (e.g. valueabc) by scanning the whole text,

2) Replace the number that starts after "=" and ends before ".", namely "6000" in the middle with any number value i want.

I don't need the parts before "=" and after ".", only the number in the middle.

.net - Write A Linq To Sql Query To Find Records Where Field Name Can Match One Of Dynamic Number Of Strings?

So basically, I need to write a linq query where the "strings" to match are determined at runtime. Is there any way to do this easily? I know that there is a library out there called dynamic LINQ, but (1) it's in C# and I'm writing in VB (2) I'm really just looking for a single, simple solution for this single case.
