So far its just a simple button1 finds all files with extension of .mp3 in C: and displays all the findings in a listbox. I then want to use button2 to copy or move (I want to see how to do both) all of the files that are in that lisbox to a directory of my choosing. Here is what I have so far.

In VB.NET,I want to create template at runtime and save it the template with name. for ex : Administrator design a page with 5 fields like using firstname, lastname, dob,nationality and job. He want to assign this page to the user with some restriction like user1 need to enter the all the fields and save it the forms as user1profile, but user2 need to enter only firstname and lastname and save it as user2profile.(in features, he can remove the fields from the form).
View 1 RepliesMy ultimate goal is to allow users to select a file from a dialog as if they are uploading a file. Instead of file being saved to the server, a hyperlink will be generated from the file's path.This hyperlink will then be used on our intranet page in order to open the file located on our network share.Is there any practical way to accomplish this?I have tried both an HTML file type insert and .Net's FileUpload Control but neither will work since for security reasons the full path of the file is never accessible.
View 2 RepliesI have been creating a program that copies and moves files from folder to folder; I am using this sort of code;
fileToCopy.CopyTo("path here...")
or
FileToMove.MoveTo("path here...")
My problem is, when I am copying or moving a large file, It's taking so much time and my program is hanging until all the files are completely moved or copied. How about, using a progressbar instead, so that the user will be able to see the progress of copying and moving instead of the program freezing?
i am using vb.net to program and process some files.I pick files from one folder process them and once i process them successfully i should store them in a different folder. when i do fi.move(destination folder) i get an error message saying "THIS FILE IS USED BY ANOTHER PROCESS" below is my code

View 3 RepliesI'm using an xsd file for a couple of my data sets that I'm using to read access databases. While this is great, I just got a new requirement that allows the user to change the link to the access database on their computer. Is there any way to allow them to set the path while still being able to use the xsd files, instead of doing it all through code?
View 2 RepliesI'm working on my first T4 code generation tool to add some Stored Procedure helper code to my project. I've created custom types (e.g. StoredProcedure and StoredProcedureParameter to help with my code generation and have included the assembly and namespace references in my code:
<#@ template debug="false" hostspecific="false" language="VB" #>
<#@ output extension=".generated.vb" #>
<#@ assembly name="$(TargetPath)" #>
<#@ import namespace="StoredProcCodeGenerator" #>
This allows me to use my custom types in my T4 template code. However, because my custom types exist in the same project as the T4 template code, I can't recompile my project once I run the template code without restarting Visual Studio. This isn't very much fun.
I read a great article that addresses this exact issue by using the T4 Toolbox, but it's not working. Either I'm implementing the VolatileAssembly directive wrong or the T4 toolbox simply didn't get installed. I'm not sure that the toolbox got installed correctly (I'm using VS 2010 on Win XP).
I have pasted below a piece of code where I am displaying a report. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Crystal Report engine. It works all good with the piece of code
Problem: Everytime a report is being run it generates a ('.*tmp', '.*rpt') files typically in a temp folder c:windows emp however we can get rid of the *.tmp files by setting a recycle on the application pool but need a way to get rid of the .rpt files.
Found solution: Call Close() and Dispose() on the report object. The way I am doing is crReportDoc.Close() then crReportDoc.Dispose()Actual Problem: If Dispose() is called the report comes up with the following error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

I have cooked up my first iteration of a code generator which creates the basic Entity models from a SQL Database Schema. Currently, It will scan a SQL Db Schema, and create .vb code files complete with private members and Public property declarations for every User table in the Database. My next step is having it add the basic CRUD procedures as well. Are we mere mortals able to access whatever technology allows the Partial class files created by vs to be hidden/Linked to their "parent" files, such as the Partial Class files for Windows forms or any other designer-generated control? My thinking is that it would be handy to be able to re-generate code files from the database if necessary to reflect changes in the schema, without overwriting any other properties or methods added to a class in addition to those derived from the database. SO I am hoing I can have the Auto-generated output go to a Partial Class file, and then use a regular class file of the same name for the rest of the code. My Concern is the multiplicity of files that might result, so I was hoping it is possible to "tuck them in" to the parent code file in the Class View.
View 7 RepliesI am working on some software to work along side our client database and I am basaically trying to add in a basic form of File Management. I have a listbox now that displays the current contents of the clients electronic file. I am wanting to set it up so that people can drag files from anywhere onto this Listbox and move that file to the clients electronic file.
For refrence the clients folder is always situated in same place which is client filesclientID where clientID is the clients unique Id on the database.
I as seeking to move 10 file every 10 minutes from one folder to another using .NET (vb c#) I am was thinking that i could of achieve this with LINQ query, but i cant get my head around this would there be a solution with LINQ or otherwise that can select the last 10 files form or top 10 files. so that i can move only these files from Directory1 ( the big pool of files) into director 2 ( a smaller more manageable pool of files).If all fails- then i wll manually have to copy or cut to at a time.
View 1 RepliesI am making a program that takes files (inside their folders) and copies them into a selected file path. For example, I plug in my jump drive, run my program and it copies my files on the jump drive over to my PC. Now my program does this but it takes the files inside each folder in my jump drive instead of creating a folder for each one in my jump drive. The result is a mess of files in the selected pathway in my PC.I went and created variables in My.settings so that you can save the file path even after you close the program. I just want the program to copy the folders(with the files in each folder) in my jump drive and move them over to my PC.I am using this program copy the files from my jump drive over to my PC, because I save a lot of work on my jump drive and I need to back it up often. View 4 RepliesI am having trouble opening my vb.net 2005 project from a backed up copy on a hard drive. The original files are on my old XP computer which I no longer have access to. I am trying to open the project in vb.net 2010 on Win7. I have converted the project to vb.net 2010 and when I open the file, nothing shows up, when I try to open them, it tells me the form isn't found in the project directory because it's been moved or deleted. I know that the software on the hard drive didn't back up .exe files, I'm not sure if it did back up other kinds of files. I don't want to restart the project because I've spent over a year on it and have written over 3000 lines of code on it.
View 5 RepliesI am creating a setup file using features brought by Visual Studio.I have some files which can't be removed from the application's folder. How to put the condition on it? or how to prevent user moves it after installation is done?Those files are critical (eg .dll).I already set the 'Hidden' property to 'true', but I think that is not the correct way :)So I try to find another way to do that.

Do I need a windows ce template or how can it be selected under new project?
I have been working on a inventory management system for a friend of mine. It has to be able to keep track of incoming and outgoing stock from his business.
I have already got all the programing done, working great! But now it has got to the stage, that I need the program to print out invoices from the program. I have the program extract certain records from an attached database, and will most probably pass them into a variable in the function.
NOW... I have a template of the tax invoice page setup in MS word. I was going to make a macro in word that will automatically fill in all the "static" information, but I was wondering if passing the variables from the main program into the word macro is: 1. possible and 2. the best way of doing this.
I am still a noob when it comes to VB so please excuse the next question, but is there a way to set up a page to be printed including tables, logo, different font styles.. etc within the VB program?
I managed to export my data to an excel file, by using a excel template that I created beforehand. But I'd rather have that the excel file will be create when I press the button instead going to my file.

ApExcel.Visible = True

View 1 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2008 Express, and I was wonder which Visual Studio Installed Template I should use just to execute VB code? Previously, I generated a project using Window Form template with a button to start, and it has references which made my .exe not to execute in any directory structure. Someone indicated that it must not have other absolute references and I think this was using absolute references? All I need to is to execute VB Code. What template would you suggest? Where do I put the start of the VB program to execute at? Since I don't need a form, there is no on event for me?

Try5Times will try a function for 5 times.that function can have any number of argument and return a boolean.
If the function return false, try again.
If the function return true, stop.
How to make such function and delegate? Is there a general delegate?
