I have an ASP.NET form that the user can make lots of changes to, each time they make a change the page PostsBack and the details are updated.If the user hits the browser back button they go back through all the previous versions of the page.Is it possible to stop each PostBack being treated by the browser as a new page?
View 3 RepliesI have an asp.net page within which I've used several AJAX controls doing partial postbacks with update panels. In testing it works wonderfully, all of the postbacks are done without reloading the page and it makes the whole process smooth. I uploaded this to the web server for some outside testing and all of the tested reported that the page was reloading a lot. I tried it within the network from the web server and it was still working fine. However, when I tried it from outside the network at home, it does in fact appear to be doing full postbacks whenever it's set to do partial postbacks for these update panels.
I can't seem to find out why this is happening. Even with the increased time it takes to communicate with the server, it shouldn't reload the page - it should just, at most, stall for a moment. Another strange thing is that it's not maintaining the scroll position even though I have it set to do so for the one or two full postbacks I have. It reloads to the top of the page.
I'm thinking perhaps this may be something set on the server, but I can't be sure.
My boss has given me an asp.net web application that was done by his former employee. Now my boss has no contact with that employee. He wants me to make some changes in that web application. I went through the application. There is no documentation present for that application . Its a huge application. It contains many directories. I think it was a team work. It has many asp pages, aspx pages, jsp pages, xml pages, css pages, etc... How to understand other person or team's website or web application that was written in asp or asp.net and vb or vb.net?
View 4 RepliesCurrently I am using .NET to break apart multi-page tiffs into separate jpeg/pngs. The process on its own is perfectly fine. But after few weeks, I notice one big flaw in the page sizes. Each page I separate is the same (width/height NOT FILE SIZE) as the whole TIFF document combined. When the TIFF is displayed,this creates a massive black spot on the right/bottom of the image. This is a very big flaw as I can't determine the physical dimensions of each page as I am separating them. If I know ahead of time, I can at least write up some kind of cropping mechanism.

I am working on a program right now that embeds a flash object or swf object into my webpage. When I viewed this in my webbrowser control within my program, the flash object did not show up. I have a VB.NET project and a C# project in the same VS2010 solution. The VB.NET project is referenced (and used) by the C# project as a project reference. If while I am in the C# project, and I Ctrl-Click or Go to Definition on an element that is part of the VB project, it takes me to C# generated metadata instead of the actual VB code file.Is there any way to get this to go to the VB code file, so I dont have to navigate manually in solution explorer/navigator?
View 2 RepliesOur solution is built on ASP.NET v1.1 framework. User is presented with login form, so upon providing credentials this information is posted back to the server. Upon postback SessionID changes and our application crashes as some information which is required for processing is stored in the cache and is identified by SessionID string as a part of the name.
This SessionID change happens absolutely randomly and only to some of the clients. Most of the time browser used to view the page and post info is IE8. I cannot reproduce this issue in our test environment, as SessionID is persistent though-out the whole testing process.
I've already checked all solutions, i.e.
Session cache is used on Page_Load to retrieve/store some information, so it's initialized and contains data stored. I've made a Health Monitoring check on Application_End event to capture any possible AppDomain crashes using Reflection and Diagnostics Libraries and retrieving ShutDownMessage from httpruntime object, but that's also not a case. Cookieless attribute of the sessionState in web.config is set to false (using URL to store SessionID is not an option)

Alright, so here's my basic ASP.NET page setup: I've got a page with a GridView that has ContentTemplates in it. You can add a row and edit/remove rows at any time. There's a "New" button that creates a new row.
All of this data is bound to custom data objects. So if I have a GridView of "People" and each row has "FirstName", "LastName", and "Gender" (with TextBox and DropDown controls), I then have a "Person" object which has public properties for "FirstName", "LastName", etc. I have the binding set up correctly, and I can push data into the GridView from the object, and I persist the object with the Session variable. My page lifetime structure looks something like this:
Page_Load: Loads the List(Of Person) from Session()
Any events fire, and modify the List(Of Person).
After any event, the List(Of Person) gets saved back into Session(), and is then DataBound to the GridView (and any subsequent fields are also DataBound, such as the DropDownList.
My question is: Whenever I fill in rows in the GridView, and then add a new row (there is no database saving going on whatsoever), my fields clear out and don't persist across PostBacks. So, how can I persist my custom data objects with databinding across postbacks?
I open a form using .showdialog and load some info onto it. I have code that runs on the MyBase.Load event. Basically, I have a Try, Catch, End Try block and if the Catch executes in preparing my information, I want the form to stop loading i.e. give a message and not show at all.
View 20 RepliesI need to show a drop down list when the page loads, the default selected value is nothing, or an empty element (such as "-"). When the user selects one value from the list, another drop down list is added below the first one, and so on.My problem with this is how you make the page to remember the drop down lists created through postbacks and the values they have selected?
EDIT: I did this example for dynamically add drop down lists and suscribe them to an event handler but the event won't fire.
EDIT 2: Changed the code because I labelled for VB.Net and posted something in C#. I update the code with some trivial improvements, but still won't fire the event :(

I am settting up control propertis on page load. Like visiblilty of control depending on loaded data. And very simple setting up images to button controls. For page load it works fine but on postback these values are not set back. This is my code. When it's a postback btnSecurityQA image is missing and visibility of all following controls is not set accordingly.

I am using Stanav's PdfManipulation2.AddImageToPage(..., Pages) for iTextSharp library (v5.1.3) and was not able to add the image to specific pages: e.g. to add to only page 1 and 3 of a five pages PDF

In VS2010 I have VB.NET codebehind aspx pages and I'm using Ajax multihandleslider extensions to filter search results on numerical values.
Fistly, the multihandle sliders don't display in the designer... I have to remove the slider targets tag:
In order to make it display in the designer... this isn't so much a big issue but an annoyance.
I am displaying items in a given category. So I get the max and min prices for all items in that category and assign the sliderextension max/min values appropriately.
This works fine until... I change the item category and go get a new max/min value for the slider control. I set the max/min values, then I set the target textbox values each to the corresponding max/min values.
The slider handles don't repaint (or init?) properly Like say for example my initial min/max is 1/100 if I do a full postback and change the max value to 1000 then the slider bar (correctly) stays the same size but the handle appears WAYYYY to the right off the page and I have to scroll to it. When I click it, it shoots back onto the slider bar.
I have a form on a .NET webserver using aspx pages with the vb code-behind pages. The form collects the entered data and then emails it, that part works fine.Right after it gets emailed, this code checks to see if the email was sent or not and then updates the landing page accordingly. I have heard of setting server specs to have HTML pages parsed as PHP pages by changing the .htaccess or httpd.conf files. Is there a similar solution to have HTML pages parsed as ASPX pages?
A website I am working on does not want their PageRank to lower since their HTML pages are already indexed and used on other websites but wants to use some dynamic features of aspx pages (like include the navigation file so that changes to the nav will only have to be done in that one file).
I created a telephone number form where the user enters the telephone number in a text box as (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The first 3 digits in parenthesis are the ISD code, the next three are the area code and the last four are the local number. I need to separate out these three fields of the phone number and display in three separate text boxes labeled appropriately. Now, suppose the user enters the phone number in a text box as a continuous string of 10 digits, where the first three represent the ISD code, the next three represent the area code and the last four represent the local number. I have a TabControl object on my form with many tabs created in code (TabPages) and my problem is that the same objects that are in the initial TabPage needs to be in the other TabPages created in code, I have this done in code when the user clicks the 'New Tab' menu option, however the same code is used for any new tabs created. The problem created here is that I have an event against one of the objects that appear in the other TabPages, but because the same code is used to create any new tab pages, the event will only work on the newest tab page, if that makes sense? By the way these objects that appear on the other TabPages are properties at the top so events can be handled against them in the respective subroutine.

I'll get straight to my problem - I'm currently coding in Visual Studio.I have a table (countries) with the columns ID | Name. The table is filled with around 28 records.I also have a form with 4 combo boxes (set up as 1,2,3 & 4) that I want the user to select. These combo boxes will display the names from the table countries. I then want to use the selected names in the combo boxes to Insert into their corresponding ID into another table. For example England would have the ID 1, USA the ID 2 etc.So, is it possible to have separate combo boxes that will give separate ID values but using the same table? At the moment I can't seem to find a solution.Eventually the form will have more than 4 combo boxes so I don't want to use separate bindingsources for each combo box.

My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.
