C# - Separating Multi-Page Tiffs Into Separate Pages?
Jan 20, 2012
Currently I am using .NET to break apart multi-page tiffs into separate jpeg/pngs. The process on its own is perfectly fine. But after few weeks, I notice one big flaw in the page sizes. Each page I separate is the same (width/height NOT FILE SIZE) as the whole TIFF document combined. When the TIFF is displayed,this creates a massive black spot on the right/bottom of the image. This is a very big flaw as I can't determine the physical dimensions of each page as I am separating them. If I know ahead of time, I can at least write up some kind of cropping mechanism.

I have a data-driven many-page print system that works well, each page containing logically what's next following the preceding page. To output a sub-set of pages, how can I avoid outputting pages before the first one that I actually want to send to the printer? To pick and assemble the data correctly my PrintDocument1 process has to run until I reach the 1st page to print, so it would be neat at the end of each unwanted page to 'waste' them - then from the 1st wanted page the usual e.HasMorePages will do the job.
I thought maybe PrintDocument1.Dispose() or PrintDocument1=Nothing might void the early pages I don't want (then looping back internally to construct the next page), but no. Is there another way to 'ditch' pages until the required one is reached? Or do I have to avoid using every e.Graphics.DrawString) statement until I get to the right start point? That would of course do the job, but is pretty clumsy

I have a few forms that have a lot of really intensive updating along with a great deal of user interface (text boxes, button clicking etc) Is it possible to open a separate form as a separate UI thread from the start up form that called it to "show" or open or whatever the new method might be?

My boss has given me an asp.net web application that was done by his former employee. Now my boss has no contact with that employee. He wants me to make some changes in that web application. I went through the application. There is no documentation present for that application . Its a huge application. It contains many directories. I think it was a team work. It has many asp pages, aspx pages, jsp pages, xml pages, css pages, etc... How to understand other person or team's website or web application that was written in asp or asp.net and vb or vb.net?

I have a form with a Tab Control that has 18 pages. When I click on a tab it opens the page and select a textbox on that page (txtTextbox1. Select() ). This works for the first 8 pages but not for the remaining 10 pages. Although on these pages I can mouse click on the textbox, enter info, save then click my Add button that clears the textboxes and has the code (txtTextbox1. Select() ). The textbox is selected just fine. The code for all my pages is the same except for the tab name and the control names. The tab key will move the selection to the next textbox in order on all pages and the Enter key is coded to do the same. The first 8 pages have a total of 256 labels, buttons, list boxes, textboxes and checkboxes on them.

I'm trying to dive into what I consider a deeper end of VB.net to see how far I can go with it. I have a project created, ironically called "My First Server". The aim of this is to create a server which can handle multi clients but additionally isn't the commonly shown tutorial setup of a console application. So it is created as a Windows Form application. The main form (Public Class PrimaryForm) consists of only one control which is a listbox control. This is named LogOutput.

I am creating an IDE for a game script with similar functionality as the Visual Studio IDE (at least, some of it). The game script consist of code that looks visually a bit like C code. It uses braces to define the start and end of a 'class' and uses nested braces to define the start and end of an 'event' in a class.
What I want finally is to have two Comboboxes above the text editor, one that lists each Class and the other listing each Event. The comboboxes should also show the Class and Event that the caret is currently in, just like in Visual Studio.I have attached an example of such a script (you can open it with Notepad).However, here is a short example where you can also see how I "defined" classes and events:
class1
{
event1
{
[code]....
As you can see, the classes are the 'names' of each block of code, defined by matching braces { }. The events are the names of each nested block of code, also defined by matching braces { } but inside a class. There is only one level of nesting.As you can also see, the layout can follow the standard C-style layout, or a slightly different layout (using the opening brace on the same line as the class/event name), or even a completely chaotic mess. As long as the braces match correctly, the code is valid.So in short, the large blocks are classes, while the nested blocks are events.
What I want to do, is parse an entire script, and store all the Classes (and eventually, also all the Events, but let's forget about them for now). I want to store the Class name, start position (defined as the start index of the name), end position (defined as the index of the closing brace) and the full text (defined as the text between start and end position, so including the name).
vb.net
Public Class clsClass
Private _Name As String
[code]....
The code works basically by finding every first opening brace (the opening brace of each CLASS, not event), and then loops through the class (using a brace counter to keep track of the nested braces) until it found the last closing brace. It then stores the name, start, end and fulltext in a new clsClass and adds it to the list to return.

When and why would it be a good choice to keep the view of two different sets of information on the same page, and just change what's visible depending on different parameters?For example, an application I'm working on has three levels of users: Admin, Director and Project Manager. We have a Managers.aspx page which follows this flow of control:
If user is admin, load gridview list of directors with several simple CRUD-like properties. This includes a link for each director that, when clicked, will load a new gridview with several properties of all of the Project Managers belonging to the selected director.If user is director, load straight to the list of Project Managers that belong to this director, in the exact fashion as described in the second half of the "if user is admin" clause".This is all done on one Managers.aspx page. Why? What advantage does this hold? When else might this type of situation arise? Personally, this seems like a job for two separate pages. One listing the directors, and another listing the Project Managers.

Can someone tell me how to get the name of the child page being called in a Master page scenario. For example, if I have the following masterpage:
<%@ Master Language="VB" CodeFile="MasterPage.master.vb" Inherits="MasterPage" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">

And I create a page called Test.aspx which inherits this masterpage, how can I, from the masterpage, know that Test.aspx has been requested (since this masterpage can be inherited by more then 1 aspx page)?

I have 2 master pages with same (href) links on top of the page. Now these links load on the same master page when clicked on (by requirement). The problem is both these master pages have same links, so basically the same page shall be loaded in the master page.
Now what i need is when the person is on Master Page 1 and clicks on the link it should load in the same page. Whereas if the user is on Master Page 2 and clicks on the same link, i should be able to change the master page from 1 to 2 and load that in Master Page 2.

I have a very complex multi-page form I am developing in the Crystal Reports which is included in VS2008. There is always 1 Page A. There may be 1 or more page B. There may be 1 or more Page C. Page A has 7 subreports and a header from the main table. Pages B and C hold overflow records that won't fit on Page A.
Page(s) B holds 1 subreport and a header from the main table. Page(s) C holds 3 subreports and a header from the main table.
My problem is the page header on pages B and C does not print except on the first page B or C and I need it to print at the top of each one. (There could be many) Pages B and C are currently subreports but evidently that doesn't work. I have to format the report this way, it's a gov't form. Does anyone know how to get a subreport (which is actually a working report) and which can grow past a single page, to display a page header at the top of each new page?

I have an ASP.NET page with a Wizard control containing several pages of form fields. The data is collected and inserted to a database from the code behind page. I need to set this form up so you can not only insert, but edit a record as well. Since the form is long and complex, I would rather use the existing one and not make a duplicate one for editing, especially since I want to keep both forms exactly the same and any edits would have to be made to both. But it looks like this is what I need to do if I'm going to databind it. But this would also involve putting the Wizard inside of a FormView, and then I'd have to use FindControl to access any of the fields which would mean altering all my already-existing code (which of course would be time-consuming). So should I manually enter all the values from the code behind instead of databinding it? Which is better, to use a FormView and have duplicate forms (plus have to go in and redo the way I access the fields), or to do everything from the code behind?

I have an ASP.NET form with a cancel button that is supposed to, after confirmation from the user, redirect them to another page. I'm using javascript for this. It works fine in a simple HTML page, but apparently something is interfering with it on the .aspx page. The popup message works perfectly, but clicking "Okay" does not take you to another page. I have tested the if statement and it is working correctly, the only thing it won't do is leave the current page. [code]...

I have a conceptually simple task:Read in two TIFF imagesOverlay the second image onto the firstSave as a new TIFFOne catch: The first TIFF is 40,000 pixels by 0,000 pixels, 8-bit indexed color. Yes, I need a lot of memory. I'd like to get to that later. (The second TIFF is also 8-bit.)I've found GDI+ (System.Drawing) to be incredibly restrictive. I cannot create a Graphics object from an 8-bit indexed color bitmap, for one thing (something that woul trying to learn WPF (System.Windows.Media.Imaging). I've been following several examples from MSDN and looking all around but nothing is working. Here's what I have so far:
Dim workingDir As String = "C: emp"
Dim baseimg As String = "base.tif"
Dim overlayimg As String = "overlay.tif"

I am continuing a previous thread to keep it from becoming tooooooo long. I tried most of the helpful suggestions offered by kind forum contributors but can't seem to make them work. I tried to analyze somewhat but it's beyond my skill level. So a different approach was to try to incorporate the code in the PrintDocument1_PrintPage event of my application that prints acceptably, but only prints first page of multi page document. I had three somewhat different approaches offered by John Anthony Oliver, ACAMAR, and Crazy Pennie. I cut the code and placed in the PrintDocument1_PrintPage event code. All three approaches made the "Printing"message box page counter go wild without outputing to my printer. Family Man Mike suggested resetting the variables after the e.HasMorePages=false line. I tried that approach but couldn't make that work for me, I really don't comprehend but made an attempt such as num_of_pages = 0, startVal = 0, endVal = 0. That had no affect on the functionality.

I've almost finished my multimedia project. On the photobrowser (which constructs thumbnails of every photo in a folder and draws them onto a bitmap which I then make persistent and from which the user can select a thumbnail and the image is shown in full on a new form). You can print the bitmap consisting of 100s of thumbnails or the full image associated with a thumbnail. The onloy thing missing is getting all the Exif info - which is proving more difficult than I expected despite the propetyitems in vb.net. Yes, I have set the encoding to UTF8 etc.
