I am trying a example codes of animated graphics. I rewrote all the code and I found an error which doesn't happen on the example code(I run the example project)
error: 'Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' has multiple definitions with identical signatures.
when I double clicked the error, I got this in Form1.Designer.vb:
'Form overrides dispose to clean up the component list. <System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCode()> _ Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean)
I'm trying to work out whether every Class in an Inheritance chain needs an explicit Dispose(disposing As Boolean) method or, if a given Class has neither managed nor unmanaged resources to dispose of, it can be skipped for that Class - even if a latterClass does require a Dispose method to dispose of mananaged or unmnaged resources?
Here's two examples: Public Class BaseClass Inherits Component 'Component has already implemented IDisposable
I have a user control that inherits the FW ListView and I need to dispose of two objects when the form's disposing of it's objects. Here's what I've concluded already, am I on the right track?
I am using Visual Basic .Net 2005 professional.From what I understand, I should be disposing of any object that is an unmanaged resource. I understand the best way to tell if a resource is unmanaged is if it has a Dispose method. ie: If I type a dot after my object, intellisense shows .Dispose() as one of the options. If it does, it's an unmanaged resource. Is that correct? In that case, pretty much every control is an unmanaged resource: buttons, forms, panels, etc.In the application I am working on I use an MDIparent container form, which contains MDI children forms, which themselves contain Panels, Menus, Groupboxes, etc, which in turn contain Buttons, Textboxes, Labels, Dropdowns, etc.Do I have to dispose of each button, textbox, label and dropdown within a panel before disposing of the panel?
Do I have to dispose of each panel, menu, and groupbox before disposing of the MDI child form?.Or can I just call the Dispose() method of the MDIchild form and the GarbageCollector will take care of all the controls and resources within the form?Watching the "mem usage" in Windows Task Manager seems to be an unreliable way to detect if I have a memory leak. The numbers just keep climbing and falling (mostly climbing) erratically and without any activity performed on the application. Is there some (relatively) easy way to detect leaks?
I have a problem with the Timer class in that there is a chance that a timer would fire right before you call Dispose() since you will probably call Dispose() from some other thread. You may have something like:
Public Sub TimerTick() Handles itsTimer.Elapsed Do Something End Sub
And then from somewhere else in the code, when your app is done, you call
itsTimer.Dispose()
The only way I can think of doing this is:
Public Sub SomeMethod() SyncLock(itsTimer.SynchronizingObject) itsTimer.Dispose()[code]...
This is not a great thing to do esp. since I am holding a lock on an object I am disposing. I can create my own lock and syncLock on that but is there a simple way?
The exact error I am getting in Visual Studio 2012 is:
error BC30456: 'Dispose' is not a member of 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient'.
Dim SmtpServer As New SmtpClient() Dim mail As New MailMessage() SmtpServer.Port = 25
[code]....
This should be an obvious error. You would think I was using .net framework 3.5 or lower as Dispose() was only added as a member to SmtpClient in .net 4.0. However, I am using 4.0!In the website property pages it states 4.0. Is there somewhere else that I need to set as 4.0?
I Want to know garbage collector works in .net there is something heap and stack funda.so can u please tell me from where i get reference of whole funda of that.and i have another question is that Please see below the code.here i declare one dt and get some data in it.and i don't want that dt after data come in text boxes.so in finally method i do dispose using dt.dispoe().
but after that i write little code to check whether the dt correctly dispose or not.so i check with if condition after disposing.you can check code given below for that condition.as per condition it gives me "Nikunj" Ouput in message box it meanse dt is not disposed after calling the dispose method.so can u please tell me why?And i Want to know about all resources which i used i want to know how can i free it.whether it is variable,object,datatable,datareader etc..... if it is any where with example then please give me link.and if it's from msdn then it's better. i want to know from Microsoft that
i am trying to connect to an MS Access database and I am getting an erro message on the following line of
searchtable_command = New SqlClient.SqlCommand(searchtable_string, testsearch_connection) Error:'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection' cannot be converted to 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection'.
Here my connection string:
Dim testsearch_connection As New Odbc.OdbcConnection("Provider=MSDASQL;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=C:CesarAccessdatabase.mdb;Uid=admin;Pwd=;")
i am making an application that grabs an image from a folder, sets it to a picture box, then has the option to delete the folder... when i click the delete folder button i get the error:
My colleague gave me a DLL that manage all database business. I wanted to invoke a function that uses Stored Procedure and return the search result. In the function receive a parameter type in ystem.Data.IDataParameter[]. Below is my codes.
im having some problems using the data adapter. i tried a statement select 1'test' but when i do adapter.Fill(dataset, "tbl1") and tried to read the value from the first row in tbl1.hen i do row(0) i can retrieve the value. However if i do it by the name like sayrow("test") and i would get a dbnull.
I have added a reference to the System.Data.SqlClient, but i am not able to use its components while coding, But when i import it in the form class i able to use the component.
So,Is importing a namespace and adding a reference two different things?
I have imports namespace System.Data.SqlClient.I just create object of SqlConnection,But error is there- 'SqlConnection' is ambiguous in the namespace 'System.Data.SqlClient'.
I have a program, and there is a timer to run it every 15 minutes. Every time it run, it will create a new exe / thread, (I monitor this thru an external software called TCPView). With the thread growing, it may slow down the performance, is there a way to dispose the thread before a new one is created?
Private Sub Processing() Dim tmrThreadingTimer As Threading.Timer Try

I am creating class libraries in my project so that I can update code without having to update the whole app.I created a class library project and added some code to it. I also added a reference to System.Data.SqlClient and also imported it into the class file.I am getting an error and I have never seen it before. Been looking online and not able to find an answer yet.
I am having fun working with System.Threading.Tasks. Many of the code samples I see, however, look something like so:
Dim lcTask = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork()) Dim lcTaskLong = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork(), TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning) Task.WaitAll(lcTask, lcTaskLong)
That's the extent of the sample.Tasks implement IDisposable, so obviously I'm supposed to dispose of them, but what if I just want to "Fire and Forget"?If I don't dispose, will I leak threads/handles/memory/karma?Am I using tasks "wrong"? (Should just use a delegate and leave tasks alone?)
Can I dispose in a "ContinueWith()"? (That seems like playing Russian Roulette.)[URL]..
When is it appropriate to apply the dispose method to controls?For example in a form that has five group boxes, once the first group box is used to gather user entries and is no longer needed, is it worth it to apply the dispose method to the first group box? Is it needed for local variables, for example a StringBuilder used within a private function which is only used while the function is executing?
I attempting to dispose / close a startup form from a sub. Basically, I using the filesystemwatcher to watch for file creation, if the file is created, run some code and close the form.how to pass in some reference form. Using and new to vs2008. A bit of leap from VB 6.0.
Imports System.IO Public watchfolder As System.IO.FileSystemWatcher Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Hello, I have a WPF Window that I show with Window.Show(). When I click X the form closes. But it is still in memory and the GC never comes and cleans it up. Also I do not have any refrences/handles to it.
I am using the following code with the window:
Code: Public Class PageWindow Implements System.IDisposable Public UserPressedExit As Boolean
I was experimenting with ways to get rid of some memory leaks within my application the other day when I realized that I know virtually nothing about cleaning up my resources. I did some research, and hoped that just calling the .dispose() would solve all of my problems. We have a table in our database that contains about 65,000 records. Obviously when I fill my dataset from the dataadapter, the memory usage can get pretty high. When I called the dispose method on the dataset, I was surprised to find out that NONE of the memory got released.
Out of pure curiosity, is there a way to free the memory used by a StringBuilder, other than the obvious MyBuilder = New StringBuilder and MyBuilder.Remove(0, Length) (although I guess the later wouldn't free anything, would it?)
