Error: 'Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' Has Multiple Definition
May 12, 2009
I am trying a example codes of animated graphics. I rewrote all the code and I found an error which doesn't happen on the example code(I run the example project)
error: 'Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' has multiple definitions with identical signatures.
when I double clicked the error, I got this in Form1.Designer.vb:
'Form overrides dispose to clean up the component list.
<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCode()> _
Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean)
I'm trying to work out whether every Class in an Inheritance chain needs an explicit Dispose(disposing As Boolean) method or, if a given Class has neither managed nor unmanaged resources to dispose of, it can be skipped for that Class - even if a latterClass does require a Dispose method to dispose of mananaged or unmnaged resources?
Here's two examples: Public Class BaseClass Inherits Component 'Component has already implemented IDisposable
I have this class Public Class DGVMod Inherits DataGridView
Protected Overrides Sub OnEditingControlShowing(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewEditingControlShowingEventArgs) MyBase.OnEditingControlShowing(e) Try
I have a user control that inherits the FW ListView and I need to dispose of two objects when the form's disposing of it's objects. Here's what I've concluded already, am I on the right track?
I am having a Friend Class InterceptingChannelBase class. It has a property as below:
Protected ReadOnly Property InnerChannel() As TChannel Get Return Me.innerChannelT
[code]....
This class is being inherited by (Friend Class InterceptingInputChannel) class which in turn contains another (Private Class TryReceiveAsyncResult) class. The property above is being used in this private class as below:
Public Sub New(ByVal channel As InterceptingInputChannel(Of TInputChannel), ByVal timeout As TimeSpan, ByVal callback As AsyncCallback, ByVal state As Object) MyBase.New(channel, callback, state)
[code]....
I am getting the error on the above underlined statement saying that Protected Readonly Property InnerChannel is not accessible in this context because it is declared asa Protected. As far as i think,if i declare a property in class as 'Protected' then if this class is inherited by 'another' class then i can use this property and it should not throw an error.
I am using Visual Basic .Net 2005 professional. From what I understand, I should be disposing of any object that is an unmanaged resource. I understand the best way to tell if a resource is unmanaged is if it has a Dispose method. ie: If I type a dot after my object, intellisense shows .Dispose() as one of the options. If it does, it's an unmanaged resource. Is that correct? In that case, pretty much every control is an unmanaged resource: buttons, forms, panels, etc.In the application I am working on I use an MDIparent container form, which contains MDI children forms, which themselves contain Panels, Menus, Groupboxes, etc, which in turn contain Buttons, Textboxes, Labels, Dropdowns, etc.Do I have to dispose of each button, textbox, label and dropdown within a panel before disposing of the panel?
Do I have to dispose of each panel, menu, and groupbox before disposing of the MDI child form?.Or can I just call the Dispose() method of the MDIchild form and the GarbageCollector will take care of all the controls and resources within the form?Watching the "mem usage" in Windows Task Manager seems to be an unreliable way to detect if I have a memory leak. The numbers just keep climbing and falling (mostly climbing) erratically and without any activity performed on the application. Is there some (relatively) easy way to detect leaks?
when building my application I am getting some temporary files shown in Solution Explorer under Miscellaneous Files lie App_Web_YDKG.VB with following code block in that generating error
Protected ReadOnly Property Profile() As System.Web.Profile.DefaultProfile Get Return CType(Me.Context.Profile,System.Web.Profile.DefaultProfile) End Get End Property
Error : Error 58'Protected ReadOnly Property Profile() As System.Web.Profile.DefaultProfile' has multiple definitions with identical signatures.C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Temporary ASP.NET Filesinfinityvb2ae71c27d560144bApp_Web_pwduczex.38.vb456
I call upon the VB ninjas out there. Here's my situation. I need to eventually be able to pass multiple models to a view. Currently I have a linq to sql class that, of course, has a bunch of generated model definitions. I need to make a model that implements multiple models. I somewhat understand how to do this in C#, but this project is testing my VB skillz. Here's some snippets from my linq to sql models. I need to combine these two into one model to pass to the view.
In order to organize various methods of my MainForm class, I would like to categorize them into several files. Of course, the methods would still need to access form elements and additional variables I added in the MainForm class.
I have a project that reference from leadtools 16.5, and after that, i want to run my project..i see am error like it " An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. im using vb 2008 pro
why upon exiting a form which has the following code i get an "Incorect syntax near the keyword 'FROM' " ? The form is supposed to be disposed , so why does any code gets 'executed' ?
Private Sub Fill_Data() Init_Comboboxes() For Each Lesson_Name As String In SQLArrayFunction("SELECT LName FROM LessonNames", "LName") ComboBox1.Items.Add(Lesson_Name)
i have a probleam with my report , i try to display my report using report viewer but it show an error :The source of the report is not definition has be not specified. i am using visual studio 2005 and databse sql 2005.
This errors on Where is not declared.I wouldn't have thought that the VB would not be that dis similar to the C# something like this:
Private Function FindReferencesWithTheSameShortNameButDiffererntFullNames(references As List(Of Reference)) As IEnumerable(Of IGrouping(Of String, Reference)) Return From reference In references Group reference By reference.ReferencedAssembly.Name
[code]....
But I get: Definition of method referenceGroup is not accessible in this context.
Dim Flag as Boolean Flag = Function1ReturnValue Flag = Function2ReturnValue Flag = Function3ReturnValue
Now ideally 'Flag' should only have a true value if all three of the functions returned 'True', but as it stands now it won't do that. There needs to be an 'and' or an 'or' or an '&' or something like that, but I'm confused as to what needs to be.
I have a form in an application that I'm building that shows a datagridview with the last field being a checkbox. What I'm attempting to do is if the user clicks on the checkbox and then clicking on "Save Changes" all of the fields on that datagridview row (except the first field) is then saved to a database. I have the following
Private Sub holidaysaveButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles holidaysaveButton.Click For Each dr As DataGridViewRow In DataGridView1.Rows
I have a program that sends out mass emails. My problem is that at the end of the program....I keep getting a "Stack Overflow" error and I cannot figure out where this might be happening. This program is a VB.Net 2005 console application which is ran manually from the command line. The code below that I have posted is what sends the actual email. I don't think it has anything to do with this error but my question is this. Do I need the highlighted line of code? I'm thinking I don't since the mail object is already being disposed...but I'm not positive.
Dim oEmail As New System.Net.Mail.MailMessage() oEmail.From = New MailAddress(strSender) oEmail.To.Add(strRecipient) oEmail.Subject = strSubject
I have a datgridview with a checkbox that keeps giving me an error. I have checked the data type in SQL(2008) table and I have it set to CHAR(1), NULL = Y, Default value = ('N'). Image attached that shows the error.
The data loads into the grid except for the checkbox state (checked - not checked)Here is my bindings and add column section. Note: The grid will only display info. Text boxes and a checkbox above the grid will actually be the input source.
I have a fairly large program with lots of forms, but just one of the forms is giving me this error: "'writeline' is not a member of 'Boolean'" Here is the code that seems relevant:
I'm making a class and I have a function in this class the is looking to see if a user account in enabled. Public Function IsEnable(byval user as string) as boolean 'if user is enables return true else return fulse end function What is it just does not find the user, how would I return an error that the person using the DLL could detect and catch?
The exact error I am getting in Visual Studio 2012 is:
error BC30456: 'Dispose' is not a member of 'System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient'.
Dim SmtpServer As New SmtpClient() Dim mail As New MailMessage() SmtpServer.Port = 25
[code]....
This should be an obvious error. You would think I was using .net framework 3.5 or lower as Dispose() was only added as a member to SmtpClient in .net 4.0. However, I am using 4.0!In the website property pages it states 4.0. Is there somewhere else that I need to set as 4.0?
I have several visual basic 2010 programs. One of the programs I have installed the program on four different windows 7 computers. I get the following error on one of the computers. Then another program I have installed it on 8 computers and I get the same error on 6 of the computers. Here is the error message I get:
2011-10-11 06:19:04 , Main, -2147467261, Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt., at System.Windows.Forms.UnsafeNativeMethods.DispatchMessageW(MSG& msg)
I am working on an application that starts a few threads every second. The threads don't do much, and everything seemed fine. I monitor the number of threads running, and I have never seen it higher than 4.
Last night I started the app and this morning I had this.
System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
The threads can make changes to two List(of Strings) and I had SyncLock's surrounding the code that did that. It has been running for several hours again and all seems well.
My question is that I found a place in the UI thread that was copying the list without the lock. Could that have caused the error?
how to debug something that isn't going to fail conveniently?
From what I read it is a good convention to name a method that returns a boolean value with the prefix of "is" or "has". So in keeping with this convention I am trying to name a method in my program with this prefix but I am running Specifically I have a class called Day. It is a simple class with a few data members and one method that returns a boolean value of true or false. The name of the boolean variable is isSpecialDay. This class has a method called isSpecialDay which takes the date of the day, applies some criteria to the date and then sets the variable isSpecialDay to true or false. My problem is that the boolean variable is named isSpecialDay and so it the method. What should I do?
Public Class Day Private TheDate as String Private DayName as String
When i run my projekt on my Pc , on my server then all works fine. Then i have try my project on another server, and get this error in almost. all my forms: Attempted to read or write protected memory, this is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. What to do?
i am trying to open and navigate to second web browser when i recieve this error; here are the details;
System.AccessViolationException was unhandled Message="Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." Source="System.Windows.Forms" StackTrace:
I'm gettiing this error from my app: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." But it carries on for about 5 minutes then stops. The application log shows this:
