C# - Prevent Design Mode Enabled Child Control From Being Moved Outside Of Its Containing Control?

Jun 30, 2010

I have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?

Can't Exit Design Mode Because Control Can Not Be Created

Jan 4, 2010

I have a document with VBA controls in it that I created in MS Word 2003. After migrating to MS Word 2007, I get the message that "Can't exit design mode because control 'lblEmaillist' can not be created".

After reading through the various forums here and on microsoft.com it seems to be a known problem. I looked at these articles but am still having a bit of trouble...

[URL] refers to the same problem in word 2000 but after following the directions I still am getting the problem.

The problem does not occur when I open the document in MS Word 2007 or MS Word 2003. The problem only occurs when I open click on the link from IE.

I've set up the location as a trusted location in Office 2007 settings so that should not be an issue.

The document in question is being saved in the word 97-2003 format due to the fact that some people here have not upgraded to office 2007. I tried saving it as a .docm for office 2007 but the error message still came up.

VS 2008 - Custom Control Not Showing On Form In Design Mode

Jan 31, 2011

I have created a custom Combobox and added it to my toolbox, and it works well. Now I have added a custom ListBox to the same file as the combo box, but it does not show on my designer when I place it. I can however add it at runtime.
''ComboBox
<DefaultEvent("SelectedIndexChanged"), _
ToolboxBitmap(GetType(System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox))> _
Public Class ProjectsComboBox
Inherits ComboBox
''My Customization
[Code] .....
I have tried removing the "DefaultEvent..." and still no dice.

i have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.

wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?

Dispose Of Each Child Control Before Disposing Of Parent Control?

May 22, 2010

I am using Visual Basic .Net 2005 professional. From what I understand, I should be disposing of any object that is an unmanaged resource. I understand the best way to tell if a resource is unmanaged is if it has a Dispose method. ie: If I type a dot after my object, intellisense shows .Dispose() as one of the options. If it does, it's an unmanaged resource. Is that correct? In that case, pretty much every control is an unmanaged resource: buttons, forms, panels, etc.In the application I am working on I use an MDIparent container form, which contains MDI children forms, which themselves contain Panels, Menus, Groupboxes, etc, which in turn contain Buttons, Textboxes, Labels, Dropdowns, etc.Do I have to dispose of each button, textbox, label and dropdown within a panel before disposing of the panel?

Do I have to dispose of each panel, menu, and groupbox before disposing of the MDI child form?.Or can I just call the Dispose() method of the MDIchild form and the GarbageCollector will take care of all the controls and resources within the form?Watching the "mem usage" in Windows Task Manager seems to be an unreliable way to detect if I have a memory leak. The numbers just keep climbing and falling (mostly climbing) erratically and without any activity performed on the application. Is there some (relatively) easy way to detect leaks?

How To Capture Enabled Action For Control

Nov 24, 2010

I have a form with lot of coding and enabling/disabling control depends on different vales and condition distributed in many places, some as sub and sum as click event. My problem is I have form, using typed dataset and not using the wizard navigator, I placed buttons. When I run the form, all the control should be disabled (that is ok), when I press (navigation next button) which has the following code inside

btn_pressed = "nav"
bs_ticket.MoveNext

The above code, should get the next record(that is ok) plus enabling 5 controls (not ok). Where is the code that is enabling those controls. Is there is a way to capture the enabling of the control by debug or runtime?

Strategy To Override Enabled Property Of A User Control?

Aug 5, 2009

I have a usercontrol with a picturebox and a few buttons related to it, such as LoadFromFile, Paste and Zoom (that last one pops up a new form). Is there a way to override the basic Enabled property of the usercontrol so that I can keep the Zoom button active all the time, while turning off the other buttons?

I realize there are 2 "obvious" replies. don't do Enabled=False, create a custom method. do everything in the one form, not a usercontrol, so you can pick and choose disabling. Both are less than ideal, given that I'm putting this control into a couple of existing forms, so I'd like to work around how those forms already behave. So is there a way to override the behavior of my usercontrol when it gets disabled? What would be my best strategy?

<asp:TextBox ID="txtStartDate" onClick="ddlchange()" Runat="server" Text='<%#Bind("StartDate")%>'>

Prevent Refresh Of The WebBrowser Control?

Mar 12, 2012

There is PreviewKeyDown but I don't know how to prevent it from passing the keypress to the browser using that method & WebBrowserShortcutsEnabled will disable them but not allow other stuff like Control+C,Control+V and even the delete key in a textbox wont function as well as technically any F keys will not be passed to the flash I have running in the web browser control so the reason for disabling was made moot because the keys still aren't usable in the flash game either because they don't function at all anymore or it has an action already(F5-refresh)How do I disable it without stopping it from being used by the underlying webpage - flash in this example....

Return returns execution to it so it ends up calling keydown like normal, there is no actual keydown event for the webbrowser control or id use that....I cant block navigation because a refresh appears to not call any of the navigation stuff....End stops execution of the whole program it seems, not just stopping that part of code in its tracks...Stop just pauses the program in the debugger....Exit has the same result as return does....

Is there no way to either use PreviewKeyDown to not return execution to the caller....or maybe some kind of await procedure(visual Studio 2011 & its await procedures/async procedures) or something which will never finish... them using it a lot(the F5 key) wont use a lot of cpu while it waits for something that would never happen....Or just any other method which could make this work how I need it....

Read Second Column From Listview Control In Detail Mode?

Sep 24, 2011

I've attached a picture of the list view control that I am using. I've been fine until now, I want to save the entire line of items in the list view control (item_description, price) and dump it into the MySQL database to allow tracking of reciepts. The following code that I have saves the first column worth of information, but I cant figure out a way to save the second column (the price)

Dim li As ListViewItem
For Each li In ListView1.Items
CurItems = CurItems.ToString + li.Text + ", "
Next

Oh right, and I'm making it comma seperated values so I can pull it up in a readable format again.

Virtual Mode In DataRepeater Control / How To Update Data Changes

Feb 25, 2011

How do i make sure that the changes "done" by a user interacting with a DataRepeater control are reflected in the corresponding database source table? I have used DataRepeater in VirtualMode, do I have to supply my own code that will "actually" make corresponding changes to the actual tables, or is there a way of "configuring" or "binding" the controls on the DataRepeater to the "dataSet" so that the changes made by the user are reflected automatically in the underlying table? Whatever I have tried so far has yielded no results; whenever i edit the data on the control, the actual data is not updated. I attach a file showing the only events under which i have put some code: Load event of the Windows form, and the ItemValueNeeded event of the Repeater Control.

Set Parent Control In Design Time?

I add the panel control to the form, then I add some custom textboxes inside the panel.

Now, if I remove the panel, the custom textboxes don't move. I think, because the custom panel control isn't the parent control of the custom textboxes.

How can I modify my custom textbox class, if I add the textbox to a form, to a panel, to a container, it should have that container as parent.

Release Configuration Mode - Custom Control Losing Property Settings

Jun 27, 2011

I have a custom control that as a custom property. The property has several preset values to chose from a drop down. The control can be added to a form. The property can be viewed and set in the properties box in the IDE. It all works fine.

Here's the problem: I can create new versions and recompile the control and/or the application without the properties preset value being lost as long as I do it in Debug mode. However, once I try to recompile in Release mode the custom property values predefined setting is lost. I first thought it was something with going from debug mode to release mode. But it seems to be ANY time I recompile in Release mode the custom property values are lost. Is this a quirk in VS that needs a configuration setting, etc. to get around it?
