View 2 RepliesI was wondering if I could elicit some tips on how to procede with an interface design approach. That is. What is a good way to go about establishing a "work area" where one can have multiple "floating forms" in this area. Can you have a form which occupies the entire windows desk top and the other forms "float" in this space? the "floating" forms would need to interact with each other where pressing buttons etc on them would affect other forms on the "workspace") Or what would be a good way to start accomplishing that? Or is there a better way to get the same effect?

I am designing a database using access 2010 and I ve been asked to design the user interface with Visual basic.I actually have designed tables and their relationship and did some queries according to the requirements. how do I create user interface in VB from this point knowing I don't have any form and report designed in access?
View 6 RepliesWe have two systems, one is created in VB.Net 2003 and the other is created in VB6. Both systems are client/server desktop application system. There is a requirement that we need to send and response data to each systems. The data will come as result of process of each system and then transfer it to the other system. These is formatted in a message format. Is it likely to become socket programming? how can I send and response data between servers?

Recently I needed to compare a suggested pattern for IDisposable and object finalization with the auto-generated one we which VS2005/VB.NET provide. We have used the auto-generated one a fair bit, but after looking it the two side by side I had a number of questions about the VB.NET implementation..

Overall I am confused by the supposed added value of having an extended code-path that executes when Dispose() is called explicitly(as opposed to having a common path that is executed regardless of whether or not Dispose() was called explicitly). how it does anything other than delay the actual release of managed resources if Dispose() isn't called directly. In essence it seems to only work to make the managed resources unreachable in the object graph, orphaning them until the 2nd GC run rather than freeing them at a point where they are known to be no longer needed.
i make a Form transparant where i dont want form background. So say like i got a round form and i can transparant the white background of the round even possible?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to hone up on my (beginner) coding skills & I would prefer that the the 'Designer coding window', not the 'Design window', wouldn't interfere with these studies. Sometimes it's there & sometimes it's not. I don't understand it at this point & would prefer it wasn't there. All I need is the 'Design window' & the 'regular coding window'.
View 2 RepliesI have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?
View 1 Repliesi have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.
wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?
I'm looping through an array of controls and need to know which controls an end-user has the ability to (via JavaScript or directly) change the value that gets posted back. Where can I find such a list?
So far I have this:
Private Function IsEditableControl(ByVal control As Control) As Boolean
Return TypeOf control Is IEditableTextControl _
OrElse TypeOf control Is ICheckBoxControl _
OrElse GetType(ListControl).IsAssignableFrom(control.GetType()) _
OrElse GetType(HiddenField).IsAssignableFrom(control.GetType())
End Function
I have a problem. I have created a control, Now whenever I am going to Drug that control on my form then a error popup will appear that says "Failed to create component 'XXXXXXXXX'." System.IO.FileLoadException: A strongly named assembly required. HRESULT: 0x80131044 Is there any facility available in .NET for design time debugging Means If I drug a control on form then I will allow me to debug the control.
View 1 RepliesI created a custom control (inherited from a panel). Then I created some other custom control (textboxes)
I add the panel control to the form, then I add some custom textboxes inside the panel.
Now, if I remove the panel, the custom textboxes don't move. I think, because the custom panel control isn't the parent control of the custom textboxes.
How can I modify my custom textbox class, if I add the textbox to a form, to a panel, to a container, it should have that container as parent.
setting the default value for an integer attribute of a custom control seems to have stopped working. The following code adds the Maximum attribute to the design-time properties table, but the default value pops up as 0, not 99:
<System.ComponentModel.Browsable(True)> _
<System.ComponentModel.Category("Behavior")> _
<System.ComponentModel.Description("highest value possible")> _

I have a document with VBA controls in it that I created in MS Word 2003. After migrating to MS Word 2007, I get the message that "Can't exit design mode because control 'lblEmaillist' can not be created".
After reading through the various forums here and on microsoft.com it seems to be a known problem. I looked at these articles but am still having a bit of trouble...
[URL] refers to the same problem in word 2000 but after following the directions I still am getting the problem.
The problem does not occur when I open the document in MS Word 2007 or MS Word 2003. The problem only occurs when I open click on the link from IE.
I've set up the location as a trusted location in Office 2007 settings so that should not be an issue.
The document in question is being saved in the word 97-2003 format due to the fact that some people here have not upgraded to office 2007. I tried saving it as a .docm for office 2007 but the error message still came up.
I am using Visual Basic 2010 for a project. My project requires to place a TRANSPARENT button on top of an image (placed inside a picturebox). for that to work, i need to set the button's parent to the picturebox. Is there a way to do that in design time? I cannot find anything on the property tab. The reason i want to set it on design time is because my project will have a motherload of buttons and it will a pain to code the parent change....
View 3 RepliesThis is a related to my last post, but not enough to make sense as a tag on question.I have a collection(of myClass) that is exposed as a public property in a user control. When I add an item to the collection in code I would make the call collection.add(new myClass) and of course the constructor for myClass is called. When I add items to the collection via the design time menu the constructor for myClass is not called.... of it it is called, I can't see any evidence of it.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to make a simple User control that houses one collection of a class that I've made. After building the control All works as planned and then randomly when I try to go to the design time interface for the form I placed the control on I get an error page with the following:
To Prevent Possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved:(ignore and continue: which about half the time works and the control shows up and the other part of the time all of the controls on the page are missing)
The one error is the following:Object of type'System.Collections.Generic.List'1[StaticGraphPlot.clsStaticCurveData]' cannot be converted to type System.Collections.Generic.List'1[StaticGraphPlot.clsStaticCurveData]'.

At some point in the past, I have added a TabControl1 to my Form in design, now I can't find. I need to view it so I can make some changes. I have looked in the 'Document Outline' and is not there as well. However, the control must be somewhere because it works fine when I run the program.
View 2 RepliesI have created a user control that mimics what a label does. I realize I could have inherited the label control, but I am working on understanding the process. I wish to add items to the control. normally (in the code of my project) would do:
Form1.Label1.Controls.Add(mylabel)
After creating mylabel in the code of course.

I have a UserControl class in a Windows Application project. One of the properties of it is a collection of another class that I have defined. I can't seem to find a good example of how to get the standard collection editor working for it at design time.I got it working using some example code I found to a degree, but the data in my collection doesn't get saved. When I exit the form and open it back up in design time the data isn't there any more. Here is my class:
Public Class Gauge
Inherits Control
Private WithEvents _Captions As New CaptionCollection

View 2 RepliesCan we make the Combo Box not drop down if we click on it even though it have item in the list, button not click-able even though it have the on_click event..textbox not allow to set focus but not in disable mode...everything like design time.. because I want to do drag and drop control like visual studio.. but I can drag now, just when I want to click the control to drag, the control still remain the default function...
