I'm having trouble with visual basic 2010 since this is my first project, I'm assigned to design a control database that allow me to add, insert, remove, clear and close I designed a software but there are quite a lot of problems in it so I need fixing these problems.

I then serialize the dataset to save it, and deserialize to show the records in a datagridview, I add more records, serialize, deserialize etc etc. � I�m using binary formatting. I added the dataset/datatable from the toolbox and selected �untyped� for the dataset. I want to print out this table and other text. Do I need to draw a report using graphics on to a page and then programmatically add the data from the deserialized file, or is there a better way to design and add data to a report? I�ve looked at crystal reports and report viewer and I cannot see how to programmatically add data using them � they both talk about connecting to a SQL or ADO database which mine isn�t.

I am considering a piece of code that will manage access to a collection object from multiple threads - add, update, remove, clear. OK ... so I have put a sync lock within each method, but what is not clear from the MS documentation is exactly how the sync lock is behaving. Is it locking the piece of code it wraps? Or is it locking the object? And if it is locking the object a private static object should lock out any code locked on the object within all instances of the object? i.e. if an add operation is underway, an update, delete or clear will wait for the lock to be released.
Finally, if I have multiple threads contending for the sync lock, how is the release managed? First come, first serve? random (from my p.o.v)? Is there a chance that two separate threads could blunder into 'locked' code simulataneously?
I have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?

i have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.
wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?
I have been asked to remove or disable the close button from our VB .NET 2005 MDI application. There are no native properties on a form that allow you to grey out the close button so the user cannot close it, and I do not remember seeing anything in the form class that will allow me to do this.
Is there perhaps an API call or some magical property to set or function to call in .NET 2005 or later to do this?

I use to do programming in VB3.0 years ago and decided to try it out again with VB2005. Basically I made a chat application for my coworkers so they can chat at their desk. It's a shared network and the program is pretty simple. Basically the chat gets stored in a .ini file and that part works fine, but I want to be able to show the users who are currently in the chat and I am not sure how to go about doing this, when you login to the chat it takes your name which I would like displayed and when you close the application to remove the name from the list while keeping everyone elses updated.

I took over a project for another individual. He has created a variety of custom controls (which I have no experience with). So one of these controls is displayed as a combo box. (It is called ctlTechnician). There are 4 items on the dropdown list. I also have a function called Update_ddls which runs OnSelectedIndexChanged that looks like this
ddl2.Items.Remove(ddl2.Items.FindByValue(ddl1.SelectedValue.ToString()))
Which removes the selected item in ddl1 from the second dropdown but if I keep changing the ddl1 item then ddl2 won't have any items left in it.
Is there a way to re-add the previously deleted items in the Update_dlls function without re-databinding because if I re-databind I lose the selected item in the ddl?

My add h2 code works but my remove does not. I ends up having h2 still at start but moves the h2 end tag at the end of the paragraph, why? how I remove a h2 or any tag for that matter?
I have a form with four checkboxs and a textbox for an id number.I also have two tables in a database. The first has a column for the users Id, Name, and a column called Points.The second has a column for Id and one called Letters.What i want to do is, after the user enters the id number, and the user clicks checkboxA it should add a certain number, lets say 5, to the "points" cell for that id#(in the first database), and it should put the letter "a" in the "letters" column (of the second database) for that id number. Also, if a user deselects a checkbox it should remove the "a" from letters and subtract 5 from points.Also there will be different letters in the "letters" cell, so i cant just clear it, but i have to remove the specific letter.

I have added the reference for mshtml namespace in com tab. When trying to run the program, error is thrown like "Type 'IHTMLDocument2' is not defined. (BC30002)".
In my userform I have a WebBrowser control to load PDF files. I have added a FolderBrowserDialog to allow user selection of drives and or folders.
What I am trying to do now is after a file has been selected and viewed, the user may want to change drives and or folder locations. How do I remove the current contents of the WebBrowser control to be a blank screen (just like when the app starts, its blank).
