VS 2008 Cannot Find Control Added In Design

Sep 26, 2011

At some point in the past, I have added a TabControl1 to my Form in design, now I can't find. I need to view it so I can make some changes. I have looked in the 'Document Outline' and is not there as well. However, the control must be somewhere because it works fine when I run the program.

Find Dynamically Added Control?

Jun 13, 2011

I've created a new tabpage and also added a richtextbox to it:

Private Sub AddTab(ByVal ctrl As TabControl, _
ByVal text As String)
If Me.InvokeRequired Then

[Code].....

I know the name is rigth cause I have printed the name in the create method and I have printed the name string in the code where I try to access it.

So by the looks of it it seems .Item() is not the right way to access the control.

So how to access to dynamically created control?

Control Added On The Fly Is Added To The Wrong Location Of An Auto-scroll Panel?

Jun 21, 2010

I have a program that adds controls on the fly to an auto-scroll panel. When the panel is scrolled (viewing the bottom of the panel for example) and a control is added, it looks like it is added assuming the top left corner of the panel is still at 0,0 when in fact it may be 0,500. To see what I am talking about, create an empty "Windows Forms Application" project and insert the below code into it.

Friend WithEvents Panel1 As System.Windows.Forms.Panel
Friend WithEvents btnAdd As System.Windows.Forms.Button
Dim ButtonCount As Integer

VS 2008 Added A COM Control (ocx) In .net Program

Apr 22, 2010

I am using a .net program. My program is used by few people and it at times downloads updates automatically.Recently I have added a COM control (ocx) in my .net program. Now when I run the program (with ocx in the folder) it gives an error. When I registered the ocx thru regsvr32, it worked fine. So now my program has to register the ocx. Is there any other way to do that rather than using regsvr32. The reason is the regsvr thing will work fine in Win Xp systems but in Vista/Windows 7, which has higher security, I dont know if regsvr will work ok or give an error or will run in elevated more.What should I do ? Should I stick with regsvr32 for all OS or is there an alternative.

VS 2008 Added Tab Control -> Nothing Works

Sep 9, 2009

I've been working on a project lately, where the user can click on an item in a listbox and then get a picture in the PictureBox1. My problem is that when I added a tab control so that I could have several pages with different listboxes and pictureboxes, it stopped working! When I click on an item in ListBox1, the picture doesn't show up in PictureBox1. Why did the tab control ruin everything?

[2008] Reference With Added Control?

Feb 20, 2009

I have two FlowLayoutPanels in a Form. The first read images from a DIR and expose them generating so many PictureBoxes are necessary. The user can drag an image and drop into the second Panel. All works fine. Now the problem is how can I know the name of the image contained in the PictureBox in the dropped Panel so that I can save it? I tried to recover in a ListBox the name of the images during the population of the first Panel but I dont know witch may be the reference with the dropped PictureBox.

Added To The Items Collection In Design Mode?

Nov 10, 2009

I have a ComboBox control with some items added to the items collection in design mode. What I want is when an item is picked from the ComboBox a different value is actually used in the code, instead of what is displayed. I am aware of the DisplayMember & ValueMember properties, but I'm not sure if that is what I need to use. All the examples I found were for bound data.

VS 2008 - Custom Control Not Showing On Form In Design Mode

ToolboxBitmap(GetType(System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox))> _

I have tried removing the "DefaultEvent..." and still no dice.

VS 2008 Inherited Control Firing Properties At Design Time

Jul 16, 2009

I've written my code to implement a new property and to set the content to this default text and grey the text whenever the textbox is empty, and to hide it when the user starts typing. This all works fine at runtime.[code]My question is this : If I place an instance of the control on a form, and set the DefaultText via the properties grid, why doesn't my Property Set code run?I'd expect the control on the form to show my new DefaultText in the control, but instead it remains blank. When I run the form it does display correctly, but just not at design time. I place a breakpoint in the DefaultText set property code and it simply doesn't run.

VS 2008 Add A Control To List (Of Control) What Gets Added To List?

Jul 26, 2011

when I add a Control to the List(Of Control) what gets added to the List? Is it the Control or reference to the Control.I have a collection of controls (picture boxes representing notes,comments, icons, etc.), which can be drag and drop into other picture boxes holding read only images. Those controls are never permamently added to those images, they can be move or dispose as needed. I need to save those controls to a file and retrieve it later, however when retrieved, they must be place onto the same location in the image. Saving just the image is not the option, I also need to save all the control attributes.

C# - Prevent Design Mode Enabled Child Control From Being Moved Outside Of Its Containing Control?

Jun 30, 2010

I have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?

Forms :: Design Time Control Behaviour On Tab Control?

Feb 9, 2011

i have a splitter control on tab 2, a grid and a scheduler control on tab 3..looks fine...i save it....close the form...reopen the form, and the controls are all resized and moved around on me....and not for the better.

wierd thing is that when i run the app, the controls are placed properly, but design time is totally f&*ked up.I know this one isn't me. is it the tab control? should i just do toggle buttons at the top and show/hide my own panels? this is just too freaky to deal with. is there an easy work around for this?

VS 2008 - Find Control By String Name Within Form

Sep 8, 2011

I need a function that returns a control within a form based on a string name. I've tried Jim's method here, but then found out that it will not work with SplitContainers. Therefore, I feel like I need to use a recursive function, or maybe a stack. I've tried many different examples online, but I can't seem to get any to work.

This is the code for the latest try, as taken from here:
Public Function FindControlRecursively(ByVal ParentControl As Control, ByVal ControlTobeSearched As String) As Control
Dim FoundControl As New Control
For Each CurrentControl As Control In ParentControl.Controls
[Code] .....
Note that the above code only seems to return a blank control.

Searching for this error, I came across a solution to change the TopLevelControl property of the panel to FALSE....but I then get an error "TopLevelControl is read only".

Public Class frmMain
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
LoadPictureBoxes()

Custom Control - Specifying Items To Be Added To List

Sep 30, 2009

I've created a custom control that I insert into my window with the following code
Code:
<controls:ListExpander Text="Class Diagrams"></controls:ListExpander>
The control in question contains several subcontrols, among others, a list. How can create the setup, so I can specify items that should be added to the list?

Code:
<controls:ListExpander Text="Class Diagrams">
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
<SomeItem>data<SomeItem>
</controls:ListExpander>

In which case the SomeItem objects should be added to the list in the ListExpander:
Code:
<ListBox Name="lstItems" Background="LightGray">
<ListBox.Items>
// Items should go here
</ListBox.Items>
</ListBox>
I'm quite new to WPF, but I suppose it's something along the lines of creating a dependency collection on ListExpander that takes object of the type SomeItem? I simply want to be able to give the control a few arguments which it can translate into items in the listbox contained within the the control.
