I am programming in both Matlab (Matlab2011a) and Visual Basic (VS2008).I've created a .exe file from my matlab code. It works well when I click on it with my mouse. But I need to run it within Visual Basic. I know it's possible to call .exe files with Shell() or Process.Start(), and it works well for files such as firefox.exe or notepad.exe.
However, it doesn't work when I call my own .exe file ... It's weird because when I look to the Task Manager while trying to call it (within VB), I can see the process starting and ending, but its output doesn't appear.
we are working on migration project VB6.0 to VS2008 ( Vb.NET 9.0) .In Vb6 we have .hlp file it will open appropriate help page/content when I click F1 from any of the forms. The same need to achevie in .NET 2008 . I came to know that .NET 2008 help provider will not support .hlp files. below code used in vb6

If I create a new project on VS2010, and add the WMP.dll reference place the WMP control on a blank VB form, build and debug the application it will run just fine. But if I upgrade a project that already had the WMP.dll reference in it, I cannot debug the application because I gives me this error
I've upgraded to VS2010 version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel; when upgrading my VS2008 project, all is well and appears correct until I run the code. Then I get the following error when I run a report that uses an XSD file for the schema"Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'TemplateName' of Byte[] and the DataColumn 'TemplateName' of String.".When I look in the original XSD file and in the new XSD file, one of my fields has been converted from a string to a byte and I have no idea why.
I'm currently moving over to W7 from Vista I've moved my source over (amazingly hassle free), but the Build option on my installer in my solution produces a different size (200K+) setup.exe file.
Initial question are:
1) Is there a log file I can compare betwen the two builds (V7 -v- Vista)
2) I thought that any compiler settings would 'follow the solution' Is this so?
I have a text file data to insert into a database for report
ITEM01,Toy ITEM02,Card
Let me briefly list down the steps i took to achieve my result.
1) Insert data into Database using text file 2) Display the records from the NEW Database(Item2) using DataGridView 3) Using datagridview, i use to checkboxes to determine the selectedRow 4) Once the selectedRow are selected. I press on Delete Button
Delete Button - Update the Item2 Table field 'Deleted' to 1 - Delete the ItemID by using datagridview selectedrow cell value Which means in 1 loop, i process two database transaction.. Is there something wrong? How do i shorten the process to just delete the item without querying two database.
I need to load and parse a text file and extract data between points on any given line. I can load the file, but it's the parsing that's giving me headaches. e.g. "Phoned Jim and arranged for John to attend site" First I need to search for "Phoned" because the line always starts with that, and then I need to extract "Jim and arranged for John"
I am trying to run a fortran .exe in VB with the Shell() command. The fortran .exe, when ran, it asks you for a file name. It works perfectly on it's own, but when I try calling it through VB Shell(), it does not work.. (i.e. I cannot get VB to get the file name in it.)
Added info:I am using VB9 but I'm writing in compatibility to .NET. As for the Fortran .exe, when you call it, it opens a command window where it asks for a file name (which I got as a string in VB and I'm trying to pass it in), then you press Enter and it's done. Basically the .exe takes a text file and creates a new text file. We've also tried adding & mystring when calling the exe, but it gives a "file not found" error.
I have a VB program that writes a batch file to allow me to run a line of the following format:java <my class file> [options]I then run the batch file using the Shell() routine in VB.When I do this it says it cannot find <my class file>. However if I run the same batch file from a dos prompt it works.why it works in a dos prompt but not in the Shell function?
The cmd file calls a web service that is used to select specific data. When I run the .cmd file manually (as in clicking on it) it runs correctly an saves the file with the information in the appropriate location. However when i try to do this with the .Net app the file is saved however there is no data in it. Why is it when I physically click this same .cmd file with my mouse it works but not when I call it from my application.

I have created a reference to an activex com component in my project and I am wondering how I now get the program to open the active x form, I have got a GetObject function but the error is "cannot create activex component". Is there a way to call an active x .exe file so that the file opens?
Im using Visual Studio 2008 and have an .exe file embeded in a resources called Extract.exe.How do i execute the exe file?i've tried My.Resources.EXTRACT but i just get an error saying
Public Class my_class Public Sub my_sub() Dim myvar as String myvar = 10 Session("myvar") = myvar End Sub End Class

I'm currently having issues calling a .ps1 file in my vb.net project. The program is supposed to provide a simple way for end users to unlock Active Directory accounts. The vb.net project is simply a text box with a button. Users will type the username of the locked account. When the button is pressed, the program writes whatever is in the text box into a CSV file. The CSV file has a samAccountName column in it. After the file is written to, the program then calls a Powershell script that reads the CSV file and unlocks the account based upon what is in the file. The program does everything it is supposed to except for calling the Powershell script to actually unlock the account. I've tried a Process.Start(filePath) which would open the file, but opened in notepad and didn't execute anything. Right now the program is calling a batch file which is supposed to run the script in Powershell but that attempt also failed.
In my application, i am downloading file from DMS system to my server. Once the file gets downloaded, on some environment, the iis keeps lock of the file and when the application tries to redownload the file and put the file on same location, an error is generated that file is being used by another process. Imports System.Threading Public Class TestClass Private myClassThread As New Thread(AddressOf StartMyClassThread)
[code]....
The result:Application runs, no errors or exceptions.Displayed is the listbox and the Start button.I press the start button and a msgbox says "Not Invoked" as expected and upon clicking OK to that msgbox "Start Button Pressed" is added to the Output listbox control.Immediately following that the msgbox pops up again and says "Not Invoked". I was expecting "Invoked" as a separate thread is trying to use the Output listbox control.Of course this results in the Output.Items.Add being attempted which results in no visible result as the thread is not allowed to directly update the UI control.
I've found several articles/examples of connecting to SAP using VS03 however not with using only VS08. I understand they are working on a new connector (3.0) but need to connect now.
I have a program written in VB.Net (Visual Studio 2008) that uses a DLL written in Visual C++ by another developer. I'd like to be able to step in to the C++ code as my code makes calls to methods in the DLL. Since the DLL is it's own solution, I don't think it can be included in my solution/project. I tried putting the DLLs pdb file in the debug/bin directory with the rest of my build and pdb files. However, when I get to the point in stepping through my code, and it gets to the dll call, it just steps right over the dll code. Do I have to manually load symbols?

I had a support reply saying I needed to have VS2008 SP1 update installed. I clicked the About menu item for VS2008 and it shows SP1 under Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1. But on the left side for Visual Studio 2008 there is no SP1. Is the framework what they are referring to?
On my last machine I had created a way to see a GUID variable while debugging by hovering over it. I don't remember what it was (a visualizer?). I have a new 64 bit machine with vs2008 - is there anyway to mouseover a guid value and have it appear? What makes guid's so special that their value doesn't show like most variables?
I live in the UK and I want to buy the standard edition cheaply. I've seen an OEM version on eBay which the seller claims to be the full version. But it's only one a single disk and it states "Disk 1" so presumably it isn't the complete application.
