[VS2008] Text File Data To Insert Into A Database For Report

Let me briefly list down the steps i took to achieve my result.
1) Insert data into Database using text file
2) Display the records from the NEW Database(Item2) using DataGridView
3) Using datagridview, i use to checkboxes to determine the selectedRow
4) Once the selectedRow are selected. I press on Delete Button
Delete Button - Update the Item2 Table field 'Deleted' to 1 - Delete the ItemID by using datagridview selectedrow cell value Which means in 1 loop, i process two database transaction.. Is there something wrong? How do i shorten the process to just delete the item without querying two database.

May 31, 2010we are working on migration project VB6.0 to VS2008 ( Vb.NET 9.0) .In Vb6 we have .hlp file it will open appropriate help page/content when I click F1 from any of the forms. The same need to achevie in .NET 2008 . I came to know that .NET 2008 help provider will not support .hlp files. below code used in vb6

Aug 8, 2011I am programming in both Matlab (Matlab2011a) and Visual Basic (VS2008).I've created a .exe file from my matlab code. It works well when I click on it with my mouse. But I need to run it within Visual Basic. I know it's possible to call .exe files with Shell() or Process.Start(), and it works well for files such as firefox.exe or notepad.exe.
However, it doesn't work when I call my own .exe file ... It's weird because when I look to the Task Manager while trying to call it (within VB), I can see the process starting and ending, but its output doesn't appear.

Dec 26, 2010I've upgraded to VS2010 version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel; when upgrading my VS2008 project, all is well and appears correct until I run the code. Then I get the following error when I run a report that uses an XSD file for the schema"Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'TemplateName' of Byte[] and the DataColumn 'TemplateName' of String.".When I look in the original XSD file and in the new XSD file, one of my fields has been converted from a string to a byte and I have no idea why.

1) Is there a log file I can compare betwen the two builds (V7 -v- Vista)
2) I thought that any compiler settings would 'follow the solution' Is this so?
Deleting Records From A LstBox And Dat File And Setting Reminders To Date In Dat File
Aug 2, 2010I am creating a program that allows a person to enter details about their farm, stock, and machinery in order to electronically keep track of all of the information. I have created the forms and done all the coding for the data entry, and now what I would like to do is allow the user to delete a single record from the .dat file. I am able to delete it from the LstBox (using a "Delete Entry" btn coded simply with
lstvehicles.Items.RemoveAt(lstvehicles.SelectedIndex)
(using the vehicles section for examples)), but I am unsure of how to delete it from the .dat file as well, to prevent it reloading upon data change / program reload. Also I would like to be able to have a reminder come up on the program start up that gives a reminder to (in the vehicles instance)when a vehicles rego is due, the date being associated to a date that is entered into the same lstbox data using a datetimepicker.

Jul 14, 2010My application needs to collect a list of all telephone numbers from a table in the company database. Running a COUNT on the amount of records that my SQL Query to get this information returns a total of 9,430,138 records. I've tried selecting DISTINCT values,but that doesn't even cut the count by 200 rows.The application needs to store this information in a .dat file that it will create after populating a DataSet. Unfortunately the CPU and Memory impact for this operation make this import literally painful. CPU shoots up to 100% and memory usage which, on this system, normally holds steady at 413mb during normal operation exceeded 1gb usage yesterday when I tested for the first time..Obviously, this is far too much for a single application to use during operation. I have no problem with the import taking a reasonably long time because this import is basically just a "snapshot" of the data. The data in the database shouldn't change very regularly, so I figure an import like this once every 2 months should suffice.
My problem is the amount of system resources this operation uses. How can I streamline it to minimize the impact it has? I'm OK with running multiple smaller queries to collect the information from the database, but don't know how to go about it.I executed the query live on the database, and it gets to around 6.5m rows before an OutOfMemoryException is thrown
Using Data Binding Controls To Add Records To DataSet
May 2, 2011I need to add rows to a DataSet using databound controls in VB.net. I've set up the data bindings themselves, they're bound the the correct controls, and the BindingSource uses the correct DataSet. The DataSet is filled from the DataAdapter correctly, and the binding source works, as the navigation controls all work fine. How do I use the controls to add new data to the DataSet? I guess there must be some kind of end-edit involved which would enable me to insert, update and delete records in the DataSet (as you would use with DataGridViews)

Jan 13, 2011I'm trying to write code that allows a search for a particular record in a data table. The table, imported from an access database has 4 columns, the first being names of cities. I need to search for a particular city and have it display the city name and the other three columns of data for that row in particular text boxes. Here is my code...it is the last sub routine that is the problem...I'm tying myself in noob-ish knots trying to figure out nested loops etc to search... (I've commented some of it out whilst I tried to figure it out but I'm running out of time and patience and my knowledge of VB is limited!!)
