Data Binding In VB2010 - Migrating A Project From VS2008 To VS2010?
Sep 16, 2010
I am migrating a project from VS2008 to VS2010 (Framework 4)and I keep getting the following error when trying to use databinding with a child property in VB2010.
Tomorrow, we have to submit our project for the first review. But I had created it in VS2010 ! But in our labs, we have VS2008, where this project will be copied and reviewed by our tutor.
I know, my project won't open in that system having VS2008 installed. Is there a solution to fix this issue that I'm going to face on tomorrow ?
If I create a new project on VS2010, and add the WMP.dll reference place the WMP control on a blank VB form, build and debug the application it will run just fine. But if I upgrade a project that already had the WMP.dll reference in it, I cannot debug the application because I gives me this error
I own a copy of vb2005 professional. I need to migrate a vb6 project to vb.net Is there any difference in terms of effort to migrating to these editions of vb.net
I have a big application which is really working succesfully written in VB.Net version 2005 I am wanting to upgrade this to VS2008/2010 early next year. All versions used would be the fully paid for versions
I am totally clueless about what this upgrade would entail. I cannot afford to re-write the entire application as it is critical to our business. Can I take my code across without too much hassle? And then slowly "re-write" the code to take full use of the new features. Would i need to attend some sort of "new features" course? Or is the accompanying documentation good enough to get by.
im trying to debug javascript using vs2010 but i can't set breakpoints? every time i try to call a function, no matter what function, in javascript, somehow jquery and ms ajax framework javascript captures it and checks if the document is ready (document.onready or other) and never returns the control back to the function im calling!all i have is references to these libraries, script/link references as you do on the top of your master page.
After upgrading my solution with both c# and vb.net projects I have encountered some problems:
1. When for example writing Public Property MaxDate As Date and pressing enter it does not create the Get/Set values
2. Refactoring is not available
3. The properties window is blank when viewing classes (normally I would see Serializable and COM properties to the right)Intellisense works and the above problems work in new projects.
I've upgraded to VS2010 version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel; when upgrading my VS2008 project, all is well and appears correct until I run the code. Then I get the following error when I run a report that uses an XSD file for the schema"Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'TemplateName' of Byte[] and the DataColumn 'TemplateName' of String.".When I look in the original XSD file and in the new XSD file, one of my fields has been converted from a string to a byte and I have no idea why.
I am working on an ASP.NET project where I use VB.NET within Visual Studio 2010. Some of the other developers on the project are using Visual Studio 2008. We all check our code into single SVN repository. I would like to start using Auto-Implemented Properties within VB.NET ...
Property FirstName as String instead of ... Private FirstName as String
[code].....
My concern is that this could mess up things for those using VS2008. What would happen if someone using VS2008 needed to modify my class that made use of Auto-Implemented Properties? I am assuming that since everything compiles down to IL code then there would be no issue in binary compatibility. Though a problem would arise when editing source.
on vista trying to create a reference to a registered DLL which succeeds with VS2008 but not with VS2010 (get system cannot find the reference specified).on vista and win7 using dependency walker the DLL cannot find IESHIMS.DLL which is in the IE folder.
I have been trying to install VB2010 Express, which directs me to uninstall VS2010 Beta. I have been primarily successful in this, but I keep getting error 1402, as follows:Form "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 Setup - Update Page":
Uninstalling Components:
[completed - check] Microsoft Office Development Tools for Visual Studio 2010 (x64) [completed - check] Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Beta 2 [pending - double bar] Microsoft Visual Studio Macro Tools
I am trying not to become intimidated or give up.I created a simple database and added stored procedures to read the data on a Windows form using Visual Basic in VS 2010.First I tried the Data Grid Example and all worked, I was able to view the data using a connection string to call the Stored procedure.I have stepped it up a notch by trying to bind data to form controls and I am getting this error message when I try to navigate through the data.
i wanted to know the primary output and other types of files listed when u add project output what exactly they are how they r used.Another thing what comes under detected dependencies.?
I've been getting this periodically since moving to Windows 7.Without any exceptions, messages, or even output a project that built fine seconds ago suddenly says "Build FAILED".
web page has a few fields to allow the user to enter payments. After the system processes the payments, the fields weren't cleared out.so my task is to simply clear them out.[code]The procedure is writing an HTML receipt into the strBody and displaying it to the user. They see the 'File download, do you want to open or save this file' and can open the receipt in ms-word. Without those three lines, the resetting works. So clearly they are messing up something, I just don't understand what.I've got a workaround, but I'd like to know what is going on.Even to the tune of is this a correct way of creating/downloading a document. This in an inherited system, the original designer is long gone.
I am currently working on a school project in VS2010. I have added a .exe file in the project folder and added it to the Project as a 'Existing Item'. In Project Properties -> Publish -> Application Files the .exe file is shown.
The .exe file runs quite nicely when I use the Process.Start("C:\NameOfMyApplicationFolder\MyProgram.exe") hard code path to the .exe file. However, I am faced with two(2) challenges that I need to overcome. These are they:
1. If published on another machine the .exe file will not run as the hard code path to the .exe file will be different from that on my machine. Therefore I need a way to create a generic path to the .exe file. I have tried these [Process.Start("C:\|DataDirectory|\MyProgram.exe")] AND [Process.Start("Localhost\|DataDirectory|\MyProgram.exe")]; I got an error message that "The system cannot find the file specified".
2. I am putting the Process.Start("xxxxx.\MyProgram.exe") on a button click event. I also want to put the running of the .exe file between two(2) lines of code. The first line of code is basically asking "Do you wish to run the executable file" - YesNo. If 'Yes' is selected the .exe file is run. Here is the problem: When the .exe program is closed the second line of code is to be executed. I have gotten the .exe to run (using the hard code file path) when 'Yes' is selected, and the second line of code to execute if 'No' is selected, but I have not been successful in getting the second line of code to execute after closing the .exe program. I have tried this: [If Process.Start("C:\NameOfMyApplicationFolder\MyProgram.exe").CloseMainWindow = True Then Do line 2 End if]. nothing happens when I close the .exe program.
im currently designing a student application form in my VS2008 Project.Theres a lot of information that the end user needs to insert for eg, Applicants Info, Parenta Info, Medical history etc What i want is some advice on how i can design this? At the moment i have too many textboxes and comboboxes for the information that needs to be provided and im losing space on the application form. Do i split the form into different parts using tabs, ie tab for student, tab for parent etc or is there a better way?
This project has been upgraded from VS2003.Was fine at first but now is taking so long to build after make small code changes my development has come to a screeching halt. Its a fairly big project but hasn't grown since before the upgrade.VS2003 only took seconds to build. Also during the 30 minutes the CPU is pegged at 100%
Basically that line just figures out the grade no major code work there, what I want to do is execute that specific line with different variables without running the whole application and navigating to the point in the application which for this segment would be completing a 150 question exam, or coding some #temp page and running it from there.
I am using VS2010. I have a project that has been deployed for several years. Project builds fine but now suddenly I get the message "Cannot publish because a project failed to build. This program is been updated and published hundreds of times.
hook up the edmx generated classes such that we can include them on the uml models? This would be great if we could because when we do support we could reverse engineer the database, generate the objects and then directly use them in our sequence diagrams and in our workflow services. Also if we could generate code, and or link code back to the model from the UML model classes that would be great as this would let us graphically show our applications at any point.
I have a purely XML database. It's stored as XML, there is no other database file. I did this by first creating a dataset in VB, then adding tables and relationships. I load the database by calling DataSet.ReadXml(FilePath), and save the database by calling DataSet.WriteXml(FilePath).
Now I need to make schema changes, but need to preserve existing data. How might I go about doing this? As soon as I load the database I loose all data if I change the schema in the dataset designer.
I have searched for changing database schema, but everything I find deals with real databases, not XML only ones, and the info doesn't apply because they are using db connections and then running sql against it and AFAIK XML databases have no way to "connect".
