Is it possible to override the auto-indentation of comments in VB.NET (Using visual studio 2008)? the comment above the second Case Statement in the code below for context.The IDE auto-indents the comment beyond the following Case Statement. I would like to override this behavior and bring it in line with the C in Case that follows.

I have a big application which is really working succesfully written in VB.Net version 2005 I am wanting to upgrade this to VS2008/2010 early next year. All versions used would be the fully paid for versions
I am totally clueless about what this upgrade would entail. I cannot afford to re-write the entire application as it is critical to our business.Can I take my code across without too much hassle? And then slowly "re-write" the code to take full use of the new features. Would i need to attend some sort of "new features" course? Or is the accompanying documentation good enough to get by.
when upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010 or what problems & issues you ran into? Just trying to make the switch as painless as possible.
View 6 Repliesim trying to debug javascript using vs2010 but i can't set breakpoints? every time i try to call a function, no matter what function, in javascript, somehow jquery and ms ajax framework javascript captures it and checks if the document is ready (document.onready or other) and never returns the control back to the function im calling!all i have is references to these libraries, script/link references as you do on the top of your master page.
View 3 RepliesI've made a few really simple VS2010 projects. I used .NET 3.5 for the last one. Should I be able to open them in VS2008?
View 3 RepliesTomorrow, we have to submit our project for the first review.But I had created it in VS2010 ! But in our labs, we have VS2008, where this project will be copied and reviewed by our tutor.
I know, my project won't open in that system having VS2008 installed. Is there a solution to fix this issue that I'm going to face on tomorrow ?
After upgrading my solution with both c# and vb.net projects I have encountered some problems:
1. When for example writing Public Property MaxDate As Date and pressing enter it does not create the Get/Set values
2. Refactoring is not available
3. The properties window is blank when viewing classes (normally I would see Serializable and COM properties to the right)Intellisense works and the above problems work in new projects.
If I create a new project on VS2010, and add the WMP.dll reference place the WMP control on a blank VB form, build and debug the application it will run just fine.But if I upgrade a project that already had the WMP.dll reference in it, I cannot debug the application because I gives me this error
View 4 RepliesI've upgraded to VS2010 version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel; when upgrading my VS2008 project, all is well and appears correct until I run the code. Then I get the following error when I run a report that uses an XSD file for the schema"Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'TemplateName' of Byte[] and the DataColumn 'TemplateName' of String.".When I look in the original XSD file and in the new XSD file, one of my fields has been converted from a string to a byte and I have no idea why.
View 2 RepliesI am working on an ASP.NET project where I use VB.NET within Visual Studio 2010. Some of the other developers on the project are using Visual Studio 2008. We all check our code into single SVN repository. I would like to start using Auto-Implemented Properties within VB.NET ...
Property FirstName as String
instead of ...
Private FirstName as String
[code].....
My concern is that this could mess up things for those using VS2008. What would happen if someone using VS2008 needed to modify my class that made use of Auto-Implemented Properties? I am assuming that since everything compiles down to IL code then there would be no issue in binary compatibility. Though a problem would arise when editing source.
on vista trying to create a reference to a registered DLL which succeeds with VS2008 but not with VS2010 (get system cannot find the reference specified).on vista and win7 using dependency walker the DLL cannot find IESHIMS.DLL which is in the IE folder.
View 5 RepliesI am migrating a project from VS2008 to VS2010 (Framework 4)and I keep getting the following error when trying to use databinding with a child property in VB2010.
View 7 RepliesMy application involves a spreadsheet on a VB form. I installed the COM add-in for the spreadsheet okay, and I see it in my form.Now, I need the following feature: When the user clicks any cell on the spreadsheet, a defined function will run. This is for scheduling events in a calendar. The user can click on a cell in the spreadsheet, the function will evaluate the text string in the cell, then decide what to do, based on the text.

View 2 RepliesI've noticed that in C# XML comments and code comments can have different colors by changing the settings in Tools > Options > Environment > Fonts and Colors > Display Items:
- Comment: controls code comments XML comment: controls XML comments
This works well in C# <summary>This XML comment is green</summary>

In VS2010 I'm encountering a PInvokeStackImbalance error when I call an unmanaged C function that takes a string argument. This only happens in VS2010 (works fine in earlier versions of vs). I know the MDA is more strict in VS2010 but I can't seem to figure out what the actual problem is.

i am writing a vb.net program which gets a c program as an input and checks it for errors,now i want my program to skip the comments in the c program,i have written some code but its not working
For Each line In TextBox1.Lines
sample = TextBox1.Lines(k)
Dim len As String
len = sample.Length

I used to be a C# developer so this commenting style was very easy in C#. This is driving me crazy but how do you do this in VB.NET without getting a syntax error?: Private ReadOnly Property AcceptableDataFormat(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DragEventArgs) As Boolean

I do not understand vb comments. I read that it is possible to give a hint in the code completion box when someone (or myself?) is using my code. But I do not find something in visual studio.
View 4 RepliesI have been using the method summary XML Comments at the top of my procedures lately and am wondering if there are any logical or good practices related to this.I never put anything in the remarks because I put the description of the method in the summary tag. What belongs in the summary and what belongs in remarks?I seldom put anything in the returns tag because it seems like it would be redundant as I usually explain what is being returned in the summary. Should I simply keep the type of object returned in the returns tag?
View 4 Repliesi am writing a program which takes a c program as input and it has to check whether there is a nesting of comments in that c program and gives an output based on that,how do i go about that
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to add comments to an array initialization? For example:
Dim test As UShort() = { _
1, _
2, _
3, _
4 _
}
I'd like to add a comment on each line, but the obvious syntaxes fail (for obvious reasons)
1, 'test _
1 'test, _
So, am I out of luck?
When I'm writing comments in my code, I often forget to add the initial space after the comment identifier.
'this is a comment
when really it is supposed to be
' this is a comment
I realize this is quite trivial, and you could simply say "just add the damn space you idiot", but I'd really like to automate this so that I just don't have to worry about it. add the comment space?note I do realize that a catch all string replace or regex replace could screw up other things ... IE:
Dim something As String = "I'm a nerd"
would actually come out
Dim something As String = "I' m a nerd"
if it's only on a line by it's self and is not followed by a second single quote... IE: '' would not trigger the replacement.
I am working with a datagridview on my form and have a CellContent Click event as shown below;
[code...]
Now, when I check the checkbox Yes and type in the comments textbox, the Comments are not stored to the table. However, the checkbox is set to a true value.
Is it possible to compile the code without the comments? Or are the comments not compiled as default?
View 3 RepliesI've been searching for this for the last 2 days, but can't find anything that works.
I just want to generate a chm, html, word document it doesn't matter what, form my xml comments. It needs to be freeware.
I am completely Goggled out on this one. We currently have a datalist consisting of rows of data for our company. What I need to do is to add a link into the individual cells of a particular column called candidate profile. The link will be View Notes. When that link is clicked, I would like to have a new row expand right below the existing row to allow the additions of comments in the empty row. When the user comes to the page and there are existing comments for the row of data, have it expanded and give the user the ability to expand, or close the comments as they see fit. I also need to figure out the best way to allow the user to enter in the comments as well.
View 5 RepliesI am using something similar to this and it will not display the Summary or Remarks when I am attempting to use the Intellisense for this function?

I'd like to realize a plugin for MC with Windows Seven but I have a problem: I don't know how I could access to tags and comments of a file. I know how to get 'system properties' (creation date, lenght, ...) but I ignore how to get metadata like tags or comments.
