Upgrading From VS2008 To VS2010 Breaks XSD File?
Dec 26, 2010I've upgraded to VS2010 version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel; when upgrading my VS2008 project, all is well and appears correct until I run the code. Then I get the following error when I run a report that uses an XSD file for the schema"Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'TemplateName' of Byte[] and the DataColumn 'TemplateName' of String.".When I look in the original XSD file and in the new XSD file, one of my fields has been converted from a string to a byte and I have no idea why.

Oct 30, 2009I have a big application which is really working succesfully written in VB.Net version 2005 I am wanting to upgrade this to VS2008/2010 early next year. All versions used would be the fully paid for versions
I am totally clueless about what this upgrade would entail. I cannot afford to re-write the entire application as it is critical to our business.Can I take my code across without too much hassle? And then slowly "re-write" the code to take full use of the new features. Would i need to attend some sort of "new features" course? Or is the accompanying documentation good enough to get by.

C# - Set Javascript Breakpoints In Vs2008 Or Vs2010?
Feb 12, 2010im trying to debug javascript using vs2010 but i can't set breakpoints? every time i try to call a function, no matter what function, in javascript, somehow jquery and ms ajax framework javascript captures it and checks if the document is ready (document.onready or other) and never returns the control back to the function im calling!all i have is references to these libraries, script/link references as you do on the top of your master page.

Feb 15, 2011Tomorrow, we have to submit our project for the first review.But I had created it in VS2010 ! But in our labs, we have VS2008, where this project will be copied and reviewed by our tutor.
I know, my project won't open in that system having VS2008 installed. Is there a solution to fix this issue that I'm going to face on tomorrow ?

Dec 14, 2010After upgrading my solution with both c# and vb.net projects I have encountered some problems:
1. When for example writing Public Property MaxDate As Date and pressing enter it does not create the Get/Set values
2. Refactoring is not available
3. The properties window is blank when viewing classes (normally I would see Serializable and COM properties to the right)Intellisense works and the above problems work in new projects.

My concern is that this could mess up things for those using VS2008. What would happen if someone using VS2008 needed to modify my class that made use of Auto-Implemented Properties? I am assuming that since everything compiles down to IL code then there would be no issue in binary compatibility. Though a problem would arise when editing source.

May 26, 2011We are upgrading a VB6 project to VB.NET. I ran it though an upgrade utility (Artinsoft). I guess the question is where is the GUI. In VB6, there is a form designe and Object mode. That does not exist in vb.net correct???
It looks like during the upgrade the entire GUI, the forms, the buttons, they are all gone. None of that was upgraded. So does the entire GUI have to be recreated in asp.net or something?

I would like to rewrite the code in VB 2008 (or download open source code) to transfer everything to VB 2008. But rather than just putting a picture control on a form as I did before under VB6, I would like to learn and adopt some new technology while continuing to use classic Windows form coding. VS 2008 Upgrading From Put To FilePut
May 28, 2009I recently upgraded an application that creates several report files, that are read by an older VB6 application that i cannot upgrade. I've gotten everything working (faster than i expected) except the new FilePut. I'm saving the ubound of an array, which is a UDT, Then saving the array itself(which again, is a UDT)No matter what I do, the file is about 7 b larger, and doesnt want to read in at all in VB6. For example, I put an 32 bit integer into the file, say 4000, VB6 reads it as 3948395 or so, it seems its padding the file at the beginning or something.
And Yes, i've tried microsofts ArrayIsDynamic function, but it seems to have made no difference at all.
Forms Don't Load After Upgrading To .NET Framework 4.0
Mar 10, 2012I have upgraded a solution with several projects inside from VS2005 to VS2010, and because of a dependency issue I updated all projects to target .NET Framework 4.0. One of the VB projects now doesn't load two of its forms. I got an error:

Another form loads perfectly. The DependentVBProject builds fine, and is set as a dependency for the startup project.
Before upgrading to .NET Framework 4.0, this project loaded fine, but something else that had it as a dependency did not build (because of other 4.0 dependency).
Form_Load Not Executing After Upgrading To VS 2010

and in VS 2008 the form (FRM_X ) loaded and invoked the Load method. After upgrading to VS 2010 the same code executes and displays the form but the Load method isn;t executed.

One issue I am running into is that VB.NET doesnt like two struct variables with the same name (Usage). What am I missing to group the overlapping fields with a unique struct name as is done in the C example (v5 and v6)?

Mar 2, 2011We recently upgraded VS 2005 to VS2010 and converted an application seemingly without any problems. But when deployed to the customer they are getting intermittent errors at seemingly random places in the program which force the application to close and AccessViolationExceptions being logged to the Application Event Log.
The customer's site is a multi user environment with the application hosted on a server and users running the app via RDP. We get two errors in the event log:
