Dense student here with little sleep here during finals week...I have a text field being read on a button click event (along with lots of other information being read). This field needs to have a number entered.
I either:
1) Force a default value (i.e. - "2")
2) Verify there's something in the field AND that something is numeric...

View 4 RepliesI have two Numeric "spinner" boxes on my form called, nrcStartNumber and nrcEndNumber. The valid range for these boxes is 1-9999 (set for the controls at design). My question is what is the proper way to validate the two controls against each other such that the nrcEndNumber is always greater than nrcStartNumber? A similar question would be the same thing with two datetimepickers (formatted to time) such that the end time is always after the start time?

If I validate for either numeric value OR range value there is no error (for example, comment out one of the validation statements), but if both statements are present and I enter "a" I get an error "Conversion from string "a" to type 'Double' is not valid." Let me briefly list down the steps i took to achieve my result.
1) Insert data into Database using text file
2) Display the records from the NEW Database(Item2) using DataGridView
3) Using datagridview, i use to checkboxes to determine the selectedRow
4) Once the selectedRow are selected. I press on Delete Button
Delete Button - Update the Item2 Table field 'Deleted' to 1 - Delete the ItemID by using datagridview selectedrow cell value Which means in 1 loop, i process two database transaction.. Is there something wrong? How do i shorten the process to just delete the item without querying two database.

But now, I'm working on reading text data (it's output from an old legacy program) that reads a first and last name, and the customer number (6 digits) from one file.
Then, it uses the data (customer number) read the first time to cross reference the zip code and status from a second file, and display it.

How would I begin parsing for the first and last name, and the customer number to assign to different variables?In the line that references names.txt I meant to put customers.txt.
That's a snippet of code I took from a previous program, so I know how to read the data, just don't know how to extract it.

When I edit and change the data in that row and then click enter it automatically presses the highest on page button which uses submit to server set to true which means it'll try to delete instead of update.
I've have tried setting a panel round the gridview and setting the panel's default button to the "updatebutton" but it won't allow that because it can't 'see' the buttons.

I am working on a VB.NET windows applications. It reads data from a text file and inserts them into SQL server DB using SQL Bulk copy.I want to validate the length of all the fields in the file. The maximum length allowed for evey field is stored in tbFieldLength table. File has 50 columns and 10,000 rows and the values are separated by '|' symbol.
If the length of a value in any row is greater than the length specified in the tbFieldLength table, I want throw an error with exact row and column details. For example,saying

I am basically converting the template file into a single string, replacing application fields in the string with {0}, {1}, etc... and adding the result into an array that is then passed to the String.Format(str_Template, Params()) to provide the final output. If I open the csv file in notepad I find these following

2.leading 0 from numbers are removed
