Why in the world did the VB team decide to change the format of a for statement for parallel processing to make it look more like a C# statement?Very confusing to VB programmers and it seems to be not needed. Why not just use the current for loop format prepended with the parallel?Certainly the compiler must be smart enough to be able to handle that?

For example i'm incrementing a counter in a IF-ELSE statement. And for each count i need to display some thing using a case statement.
I need to create a Select Case statement to assign the per check processing fee:user inputs number of cks into textbox that i need to validate the input if user puts in a negative amount.
10 cents for <=20 cks written ea month
8 cents <= 20 to 39 cks written ea mo
6 cents <= 40 to 59 cks written ea mo
4 cents for 60 or more cks written ea mo.
Also, I have a label programmed to display the $10 monthly fee thats has to be included into the: Total monthly fees.
Here's the coding I have so far:

What i want it to do is 'listen' to the lpt port, when a sensor is broken then display the time. there are two sensor to measure the time of the first and then the second sensor.How do i get VB to listen to the sensors which are on two different inputs of the lpt port and time stamp in micro seconds. I can get it to read the state of the input on mouse click but i need it to display the time in micro seconds when the input changes. i will then use the times from the two sensors to work out the time it took between both sensor changing.

However recently I am finding if I stop the service then while windows says the service is stopped the process is still running in task manager. However it is at 0 cpu and the memory does not change. If I try and end the task (even a force in command prompt) it just says access denied and i have to reboot the server. What would be the best way to make sure everything terminates? I thought of adding a global Boolean that in the stop procedure it turns true and part of my parallel code will check for that and call s.stop.

Itemlists is a global lists i retrieved from database, everything looks fine to me but when i run this program, I found that the threads are inserting one records 9 times into the database(I have 9 threads in total), which makes me think that maybe i need to specifically assign 1/9 of a list to each thread? Is there another way to do it which doesn't require the splitting of the list, if not , how do i split it then assign?

Im not asking for the whole program, just something to get me started and hints along as i progress with it. Please help me get started on my program, its due in 2 days.
Here are the requirements....
1. The program must input any number of individual�s last and first names using two separate textboxes.
2. The array of names must be sorted by the last name using a bubble sort. You must code the sort.
3. The program must be able to recall the names from the file and add to the existing list of names so that more names can be added to, sorted, and written back to the file in sorted order.
4. Sort in ascending order: A to Z
5. All names must be displayed in a listbox in sorted order when the user wishes to see them.
6. In the listbox the last and first names must be separated by a comma and a space. Example: Smith, Mary
7. The user must be able to search for a name in the array, using the binary search algorithm. You must code the search.
8. Do not use module-level variables. Instead you may choose to use Static.
9. The program must be designed using Visual Basic 2008

View 3 RepliesI am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.
Can you set a condition inside the string.format parameter.So if i have
string.format("{0}" , if x = 7 then return "SEVEN" else return "ZERO")

I have some code in a VB module. When I run this with the SQL statement having hard coded values in the where statement it works. I am now trying to add Parameters to the module so that the Form can except an Input from a user, but I am getting the message: Input string was not in a correct format.

Notice that there is no explicit type declaration of the total variable.This code worked fine under .NET 2.0 Under .NET 3.5, the Total variable is defined as an Integer, therefore the total is being rounded to the nearest dollar on every pass.I know one solution is just to change
Dim Total = 0
to either
Dim Total as decimal = 0
or
Dim Total = 0D
However I'd prefer to not have to visit every page in the system looking for this problem.Is there any site wide, or page wide option I can set the change this behavior back to the way it was under .NET 2.0?
