Check If The Application Is Already Opened?

May 1, 2012

I've got an application which I want to only have 1 open. How would I make it check if the application is already open and only open if it isn't? I've had the idea of using 2 forms, one of which is the proper application and the other which just checks if its running then opens the other form.I would imagine it would check if there's more than 1 of the process name running and if there is close all others?

.net - Check If Shell Program Has Opened?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm launching an Access ADE, using Tony Toews auto FE program. The AutoFE programs will, if newer version available, copy the latest version of the ADE from the server, then launch it. My code looks like:

Dim stAutoFE As String = "V:Appsautofestartmdb.exe /cmd /inifile: " & """" & "V:AppsAutoFESSP.ini" & """"
Shell(stAutoFE, AppWinStyle.Hide, True)
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) ' Time delay

[code]....

I had to put the Sleep delay in, otherwise the GetObject would open the ADE a second time. But I don't know how long the copy from the server will take, so I need to remove that Sleep line and check that the ADE has opened.

In my next release, i would like to know how many user approximatly are using it, so when ever a user opens my program for the first time on that computer, it sends me, or my website a report telling me that it was opened on a computer. so if 4,000 people download and open it, i should get 4,000 emails or reports

Occasionally someone will have one of the files opened and it causes a crash. If I test to ensure it is not open, then I can avoid this.

DGV CheckBox - Recognise Which Check Boxes Are True And Update Automatically When The Information Is Opened From A Text File?

May 8, 2012

I have code which saves DGV contents including check box columns as a comma separated text file. I also have correct code which will take the text file and re-insert it into the DGV at a later time. This all works. When I'm working on the DGV, I have this

Private Sub DataGridView1_CellValueChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellValueChanged
If DataGridView1.Columns(e.ColumnIndex).Name = "Column12" Then[code]....

So that when the check box is true, columns 1 and 3 turn different colours, and when false, go to a yellow colour. However, when I "re-insert" my DGV info from my text file, the check boxes come back correctly - as true and false on the right rows - but columns 1 and 3 don't change colour. I've tried a "DataGridView1.Refresh" option but not getting it to work. The DGV is unbound. I need it to recognise which check boxes are true and update automatically when the information is opened from a text file.

Getting The Name Of The File Which Opened The Application?

Apr 24, 2009

I have created a windows application which creates a database file and saves it to disk, it uses a custom file extension so that when the file is clicked it opens the application. In order for the application to use the data in the file it needs to rename the file so that it has a .mdb extension. My problem is that I cannot see how to get the name of the file which opens the application.

Detecting A Message Box Opened In Another Application?

Jun 2, 2010

I am developing a windows service, in vb .et, that launches a legacy application that performs some work. The service acts as a wrapper around the legacy app allowing users to automate an otherwise manual operation.Everything is working great, except occasionally the legacy app displays a messagebox. When it does this the process halts until the message box is closed.

As the service will be running on a server there will be no user to close the message box.The service launches the legacy application in a System.Diagnostics.Process.My question is, is there way to detect that a message box has been displayed by a process that I have started using System.Diagnostics.Process and is there a way to through code to close the messagebox.

Copy Opened Database - Application Gets It's Data From A Mdb-file And The Connection Remains Open As Long A Person Works?

May 14, 2010

The fact is I'm making an application, which users can install by using a Setup file...once installed the data in the database can be updated by a centralized server. To do this, they can insert a DVD/CD-ROM and export the necessary data towards it. I need to do it that way, because some of the users who really need this data will be using stand alone computers. The application gets it's data from a mdb-file and the connection remains open as long a person works with the application (maybe not the best way to do, but I know :-) )...when the user uses the application, he can perform an export...this exports the .ini-file and pictures (which works fine), but he also needs to export the mdb behind the application...I already tried connection.close() before and connection.open() after the System.IO.File.Copy...but that doesn't seems to work.

Check Conditions To Determine Whether The Application?

Feb 10, 2011

Using the Application Framework in a WinForms Project, I need to check conditions to determine whether the application should run at all and if it shouldn't run then I need to kill it before it even shows the main form. My conditional checking is occurring at the MyApplication.Startup event handler, so all I need is the method that shuts down or kills the current application.

I'm pretty sure this question's been asked a thousand times, a few of those even by me, but I can never remember the right language to get any useful info out of a Google or MSDN Search string.

It never hurts to try. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn from it.

Check For DLL On Console Application Load?

Aug 26, 2009

I have a simple console application which consists of a single executable and a DLL file. My project has a reference to the DLL. My question is how do I ensure the DLL is present in the same directory and prevent the console app from crashing? Although in reality the two files will probably never be separated, I want to make sure someone can diagnose the error without me there.

At first I tried adding File.Exists(PathToDLL) at the beginning of Sub Main(). If the file wasn't found, I was going to display a message and quit the application. But apparently if the DLL is referenced at any point in the code, a System.IO.FileNotFoundException is thrown regardless if the line is executed.

Is there some way to handle this in the executable itself without creating another executable to load that one?
