I have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document. This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]
I want to open up an existing instance if my program is already running only if its running the same version.I noticed that this question was asked for only if the name exists, but what if the version is older, I just want to notify the user that an older version is still running, "please remove older version before starting this version."The other link is this one:Return to an already open application when a user tries to open a new instance but they don't talk about closing an instance if an older or newer version is detected.

I have an MDI parent within which are contained several mdi child windows. when I close the MDI parent window, I need to check for any open MDI child windows (they may not be in the foreground) and check if they need saving. the saving part I'm ok on, but I can't get a stable system for checking if there are any open MDI children, when I click the button that closes the application. any suggestions?
Supposedly I create a file called "hi.txt" and I use Process.Start(filename) to open it. then I File.Opentext(filename), edit it and close it using stream writer/reader, while I still have that file open.
In order to see the changed text I need to close "hi.txt" and reopen it.
Is there a way to automatically do that? Been experimenting a bit but with no luck.
I have an application which need to send data to particular system on specific port. But the application gets hang if the target system port is closed.
I Want to know if a particular Port is open on a specific IP address so that i can continue my next task. PBL (Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate)
I have written some code to check if a port is open. I'm currently trying to work with the system.net.sockets name space.I know that the easy way out would be to use AxWinsock, but I don't think the AxWinSock is very cool, nor do I think it's very professional when trying to make network applications in VB.NET.
I've got this Error message : Socket Exception Was unhandled, No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:1 IDK, Like I said, I'm new to the System.net.sockets namespace, I'm pretty good with other stuff in VB.NET, but when it comes to the serious stuff like the system.net.sockets namespace, I'm not so great.look at this code and tell me what I am doing wrong, I've manged to get this far, and I don't want to just give up and continue watching my movie.

I need to know if a form2 is already open when a button1 on form1 is clicked. I found the following code which fails when I open form2 then close form2. When I click button1 on form1 nothing happens. Is there a way to reset form2 to nothing or is this just wrong?
Sub isFormOpen() If xmlTest Is Nothing Then xmlTest.Show() OpenXML(filename) End If End Subdavidbell
would it be possible to check if any notepad or word file is open that contains the word 'test'?I was thinking something like the following.
Dim Process() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("notepad") Dim Process2() As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("word") For Each p As Process In Process If p.MainWindowTitle.Contains("test") Then
The following code works to check if a file exist, but I need to also check if the file is open. How would I do that?
If System.IO.File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "players.txt") = False Or System.IO.File.Exists(Application.StartupPath & "preferences.txt") = False Then bla bla bla End if
When the main program is doing it's routine, it is looking at, and using, data from the two files. So, when the user pauses the program by opening the control panel, one or both of the files may still be opened. When the control panel tries to open them, it causes an error.(I am guessing that to just tell it to close them will cause the same problem if they are already closed.)
I have a excel file place on server. I am using a application which written by VB.NET to open file in read only mode. User 1 open file in read only mode. How can user 2 detect that file is open or not status?

how I might check to see if a specific Excel Workbook (call it Test.xlsx) is open?I have a routine that calls a subroutine. Sometimes at the time of the call Test.xlsx is open, sometimes not. So when the subroutine runs, I need it to check first to see if Test.xlsx is open. If it isn't then the subroutine should open it and perform the subroutine's purpose operations. If it is open, it should not try to "re-open" it or worse open a copy of it; it should simply perform the subroutine's purpose operations.
I am developing a VB web app in VS2005, and I can't figure how to do somehting. Can anyone suggest a way to gather up (non - postbacked) checked items (checkboxlist) on a web form (and of course write them to a file), and then start the report using a new window? If you suggest using htmlwindow.opennew, then I need to know what the constructor looks like for that. Can I get btnReport.click in my aspx.vb code to execute before it is sent to the report form by the "OnClientClick" asp command?
i am new to the whole visual basic deal altogether and i'm sure i jumped into the hardest version. anyway i am trying to make a program for my band director so that when he checks-in/out uniforms its faster and easier. i have the checkout done but the check in is a bit of a trick. i need to read the data in from the file and whenever ", " that character is read it need to go to the next text box so it starts with textbox1 which is lastname and goes to textbox6.
i have 2 vb applications. this is the code for the first one which when a button is clicked it will check if the other application is already open. If not, it'll open that application -

I have an application that provides core services for a series of other applications. When another of these applications is started, I want to check that the service application is running and if not shutdown. What is the best method to check for the existence of the other app? I'm thinking that I should be using a global mutex in the services app and checking for it's existence in the other apps. Is this the correct way to proceed?
