Aug 16, 2010
Actually i have to update a software daily on 20 computer and connecting to internet kill my ADSL connection. i would like to download the file on my server and then schedule a task to pick it up from the server share folder.how i can write this script and then put it on the 20 computer so that it come to check the folder on the server then update to the latest file?
is the a program or a script that will allow people to click a button or something on a vb 2008 program and it will connect to a server and update it to latest version?
I have literally looked everywhere on the internet and i cannot find a way to check if a folder exists on an FTP server. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express Edition.
I have a dataset with a number of data columns, due to sizing issues I've updated a number of the varchar columns from say VARCHAR(20) to VARCHAR(50).I'd like the DataTable to automatically grab the new column information, is this possible? I'd rather not go through each column in the table and update the length.
I am facing problem to upload the file to FTP server. As ftp server is : ftp://myFTPserver.com Current Default Folder: GO.$DataW1.SVMANNET
But I want to upload the file on Go.Data72.CLEVDATA Folder. how to change the path from teh default folder to teh folder where i want to upload the files.
Like from command Prompt we can use ftp> cd GO.$DATA72.CLEVDATA to change the current directory. how can we achieve the same in dot net.
Now I upload update to a share folder inside the company network I have full Permission access & everyone read onlyas any one out side the company can't use the program so there no password on the share folderbut I need now to protect the share folder as I have to use real IP on the database connection to allow the company branch's to access the database
I want to enable auto updating on my vb app.So I got Project--> Properties--> click the Application tab. Click the Assembly Information button --> Update the Assembly version. Then click ok.Then I build my app. Then I click the Publish Wizard. I specify the location to publish the app. It is an ftp folder. Then I click Next.It asks how will the user Install the app.I select FROM a CD-ROM.then I go next.It asks where will the app check for updates.I specify the same ftp folder.then I go finish. And it publishes to the ftp location. Then I get the setup file from that location and run it on my pc. It loads my app fine. then I build and publish again. But when I copen my app it doesn't update with the latest version.
I was recently working on a project that involving connection to a POP3 Server. I was using this piece of C# from CodeProject[URL] had complied it into a DLL and was using it in VB.NET.I'd connected to my Hotmail Account (not many mails) and it seems to work just fine. After that, I connected to my GMail account... I stared seeing errors!POP3 is meant to fetch emails only from the Inbox. Even when I made my own program to cross-check the problem, I saw that when I requested for the number of messages, the GMail POP3 Server returned a value which is about 5 times less than the actual inbox size.
255 Emails in my Inbox?? Online it shows me 2,414 emails in my Inbox. And secondly, my MAIN QUESTION is that how does one fetch the LATEST email from the POP3 Mailbox. What I've fetched here was an e-mail with ID 1! I want to fetch the top 20 emails (that were most recently delivered to the account)...Is there any work around for how to fetch the LATEST email from the POP3 Server rather than the oldest emails? I've also tried to connect to the Hotmail POP3 Mail Server. Again a "RETR 1" command fetches me the oldest email and not the latest one!
I am developing an application that Monitors a specific folder for file changes such as modify deletion, update, etc. The only problem I have is , the application doesn't fire up File events.
I have a list of users with me and I need to find out programmatically which of the users present in the list have read/write permissions on a particular folder/file.
I have a folder that can (hundreds currently) but upwards of 10's of thousands of files. I have a program that gets all file names, and sorts them based upon set criteria and displays them in a treeview. My issue is right now a few hundred files moves fairly quickly when getting files name (path.getfiles), sorting, and returning sorted list for further search and display. My concern is when the number of files starts to increase, alot of these functions will take exponentially longer to perform. Especially my organizing function.
Because my files are part numbers <PartNum><Rev><SubRev><ManuNum>.<extension> I first sort out all different Part numbers first making the list manageable (maximum of a few thousand). Then as you choose a part number to work with, it retrieves all files associated with that part number (maximum of a few hundred).
My concern is everytime I need to look for a file in anyone of those steps, I have to import all file names, search and return correct file path, and Im sure this will become slow as the number of files increase. I dont mind having it do it once then update the list as needed. So I was thinking import and sort all file names at load, and check every so often for and files that might have been modified recently and just update it's entry in the sorted list. But this means my program has to stop, and check all files for changed "modified" time, which too will be slow-ish.
How can I check if an Image File exists in a Folder?I need something similar to this:If C:***My RecipesNick's Milktart 237.png Exist ThenThe code that goes here is not a problem; I will show it as soon as it works.
I want to save a bitmap object to file, but I want to make sure the file path is writeable first. The user should have write permissions to the folder and it should not be a location on a CD drive.Right now, it gives a "A generic error occurred in GDI+", which is not too helpful. I'd rather tell the user that the selected save location is not writeable.
I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.
Supposedly I create a file called "hi.txt" and I use Process.Start(filename) to open it. then I File.Opentext(filename), edit it and close it using stream writer/reader, while I still have that file open.
In order to see the changed text I need to close "hi.txt" and reopen it.
Is there a way to automatically do that? Been experimenting a bit but with no luck.
I'm doing a uni assignment and my application has to go to a specific folder and locate a file for data. The folder has 300+ files in it with a specific format for the naming of the files ie. the program goes to the folder looking for one specific file that has been derived from a different function and user input in the form. The program works fine when the file that it is searching for is there, but I keep getting a FileNotFoundException whenever the file that it's looking for is not there.I don't want the application to throw an exception every time the file doesn't exist because the program needs to return back to the loop to see if the next file is there or not.And so the loop continues until it's found all data and loaded it all into an array. How can I do a check of the folder to search for the file, and if it's not there, go to the next step without throwing an exception?
im slightly new to VB, i was wondering how I make the program check a file for an update, i kknow there is an option in the app settings, but when I go on it it doesnt recognize .vb or .exe files to check from.
If i uploaded updates to a server, how would It check that for updates? and what file type would i need to upload it as?
produce VB script which looks at a particular folder and gets the name of the latest file. I have a folder which holds database backups and I need a script that gives me the full name of the most recent backup (file name consists of a date and time stamp). This file name will then need to be used in a variable within SSIS.
I am having a problem with a folder and a file showing up under my project which is under my solution. The files are being added to TFS but my project has no idea that the file exists and shows it as white[code]...
my application reads from an .xls file I put on google sites. The problem comes when the application modifies a cell and tryes to save the file on the site, actually it does nothing since to read something from the site is easy, while trying to save something requires a connection with username and password.
So, how can I pass the username and the password to the application? and even most important, can I encrypt it so that the person who uses my application could not see the real trafic details with a http sniffer?Right now I am using this code:
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application Dim xlWorkBook As Excel.Workbook Dim xlWorkSheet As Excel.Worksheet
I make changes on my program very often so after I change something in application I have to go from PC to PC and copy paste new .exe file or .dll. I have more than 100 pc. I was thinking on this way but I do not know how I can make it; I want run application in the server, if got any update files server should update to rest of the pc which are online. In this case I do not need to walk around and copy-paste files every time I make any change in application.
I'm making a game in Gamemaker and i'm using VS2010 to create a launcher for it. The launcher works like the Minecraft launcher:
it has to check a file from my server, then compare it to the local file, and if they aren't the same, the launcher has to re-download the game.exe from the server.
This all has to happen when i click play. To make the game start i use Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory & "\game.exe") i've put the game in the solution explorer.
put 'copy to output directory' to 'copy always'. i appareantly had to do that according to a tutorial to launch game.exe. Now, as i've said, i'm quitte new to VS 2010.
At the moment i have an access database file just sat in a folder on my employers server which every computer can see. We can all run an application i have done which we can add/update/delete records/rows on te access database.I was told that access can be temperamental if too many people are using it at once, and that i should look into changing it to a sql server database ? Can a sql database just sit independently like the access database and is it just similar code except for the connection ?
How can I check if a file exists on a server? Let's supposed that I want to check if "[URL]" exists. How can I do that?
I tried to do this but it does not work: Dim fso As New FileObject If fso.FileExists("[URL]") Then MsgBox("exists") Else MsgBox("File not found") End If
I have programs written in VB2005 accessing mdb database in server. When the server run XP, it was never a problem (at the time, the folder was shared to all). There is a new rule in the company and we have Win 2003 server, and my mdb file must be stored in a folder in the server that the administrator (not I) have installed password. And clients are supposed to access it as user only. I can ask password as administrator, but the users of my program must not have the administrator password (which I can included in my program if necessary). How can I modify my program so that it can access the database? I assume I must modify my connection string, but I do not know how. I am currently using this:
