I have TFS url, and I have source File location, but I don't have Workspace path. How to Check out file without workspace, or how to find workspace for some file? I already make solution for checkout file in TFS, but in some cases I don't have workspace path or name.

At the moment i have an access database file just sat in a folder on my employers server which every computer can see. We can all run an application i have done which we can add/update/delete records/rows on te access database.I was told that access can be temperamental if too many people are using it at once, and that i should look into changing it to a sql server database ? Can a sql database just sit independently like the access database and is it just similar code except for the connection ?

View 5 RepliesI have programs written in VB2005 accessing mdb database in server. When the server run XP, it was never a problem (at the time, the folder was shared to all). There is a new rule in the company and we have Win 2003 server, and my mdb file must be stored in a folder in the server that the administrator (not I) have installed password. And clients are supposed to access it as user only. I can ask password as administrator, but the users of my program must not have the administrator password (which I can included in my program if necessary). How can I modify my program so that it can access the database? I assume I must modify my connection string, but I do not know how. I am currently using this:

But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002) Basically what it is designed to do is look for a directory, if that exists then look for a file in that directory. If both = True then it should open the folder to browse the files. I believe the issue is with the "Program Files" being 2 words since the script runs using a root path, but I'm not sure how to format the path correctly to make it work?

These tools were written in VB6, by someone who is a very beginner programmer.We need to transition these to .NET in order to work with a new release of the ArcGIS software due to come out soon. I am having trouble convincing the 'powers that be' that we need to take a new approach to the development of these tools. they are all in a single VB Project, but what I want to do is to break these tools up into seperate projects in either VB or C#, compile dll's, and then use them as needed.....more of a 'modular' approach in my eyes. That way many people can develop many tools at the same time.
Can anyone point me to some weblinks or articles on how to properly develop in a team environment so I can try to convince the powers that be that we need to change the way we are doing things.

my problem is that the server (accessed through filezilla) wont allow .exe extensions to be uploaded as a result i have added a .new to the end and that allows it to be uploaded. Thus when i download it i simply remove the .file from the end.That's sorted but my auto updater needs to download folders as well. This is a problem as i cannot add a .file to a folder as it does not govern the filetype. I though of using .zip files but i cannot find an program in windows that can extract it (e.g. through CMD, or if you right click a .zip file in Win7/Vista you get the option to "extract all" i cannot find the root of this application). Also if i try to use a external file extractor i cannot be sure that the remote PC has the same program (e.g. 7zip, winrar, etc..)
