In VB6 datacombobox there was a property that you could set that filtered the item list as you typed in the combo box (extended matching I think it was called) so that as the user typed more characters in the box the filtering progressively narrowed down the number of items in the list.The .net control does not seem to have this facility, or does it?Do we have to programatically do it now?

How to use a databound combo box to display one field in the drop down, and another as the combo box text on roll up? Using VS 2005... For example, I have a datatable that has 2 fields. One called "ShortDesc" and one called "LongDesc". I want to be able to see the "LongDesc" column values in the drop down on the combo box. When I make a selection, I want the text in the combo box to read the corresponding "ShortDesc" value.

I'm trying to design a words game that's give you the first two letters from the word and you insert the rest to make a word (for now I'm just using "co" as example and I have just one table in the database for it). The word will be written in textbox to be compared to a database field. If the word exist in the field the word will be displayed in a label with blue color and the score will increased by one if not the word will be displayed in the label with red color. This should happen three times with three words and I have different label for each one.
the name of my database is database1 and it have one table "A" wich contain "Comp" and "word". I tried this game with array of word before and it was working. Now I'm trying to use database instead of arrays but its not working. [Code]
How to match one value to another value in same text file. For example I have a this value : 116.71 33.3 in my text file. I want to check whether another same value exist in a same text file or not.
I used this code to find my first value

In this exmample textData is a string of text and alpha is a single letter a through z or A through Z. I don't need the criteria to be case sensitive, but I do need only the first letter of textData to match alpha. I have tested the LIKE comparator and it does not return all records that begin with alpha.

I have to scan through documents. Excell, Word, txt, ect looking for company names that match a pre-difined list of companies.I then email the companies some specifics in regards to that doc.The problem I have been having recently is that the list of companies keeps growing and I am starting to miss some more than I used to.What I would like to build is a tiny app that has 2 Text boxes.1 on the left for input (where I would copy/paste) the document text I receive.and one on the right for the output where it will highlight any line that contains the name of any of the pre-defined companies.
I started toying with the idea and so far I have form with a SplitContainer. Within that SplitContainer each side has a TextBox... Below the Textbox on the left hand side splitcontainer I have a submit button with no actions currently assigned to it.
i created a form with a combobox that lists out Assignments ( assignment 1, assignment 2, etc...)......what i need to do is let the user choose an assignment, then the program should look for the matching text file in a folder, ex: user picks assignment 1, and the program will read from assignment1.txt and display the result in a listbox. I have everything except the coding to match what the user chooses and the text file to streamread.
View 10 RepliesI need to to able to save multiple text-boxes and a combo-box to a text file. the thing is, when I go to save, I check out the .txt file manually and its saved all in one line, no spaces. when I go to "read" it with the 2nd part (<-----this is a 2 part Challenge) it even reads all from that one line in the text file. I have a problem with Combo Boxes. When one uses the mouse to open the drop down menu, the text appears to be missing, but when you click on a entry, the text appears in the box at the top of the combo box (the thumb?). Likewise, when the cursor keys are used to scroll through the options, the text appears in the thumb.

I might be coming up with a few dumb questions over the next few weeks because I am trying to push myself to learn VB 2008. So I think this is the first.I have figured out how to get a datareader to pull data from a MySQL database, pass it from a module back to my form, but when I try to put it in a combobox, the text is always left-aligned. I had never thought about this before because I think I have only ever put text in one before in VB6. First of all , let me specify that this combo box is set to only accept specific strings , which populate it when the form is loaded . Assuming that the combo box is located on Form1 , when it is loaded , this code is executed :

What is going wrong ? Is it that the combo box can not have that value because Form1 has not been loaded yet ? If that's the case what should I do ? I guess I could call the Load sub directly from Form2 in order to load Form1 , but I wouldn't like that because with the Load event some other code will run , which I don't want it to . I have a combo box on a form that is set to certain width. The data the combo varies and can be quite large. Is there a way that the combo box could be expanded to fit the widest data/text when the Combo is selected?It would be quite neat if it pop out of the form when selected! I have a label on the top of the screen that shows the Tenant First/Last Name.
