I'm trying to set up a database connection between an ASP page running VBScript, and I have found code to do this. However, the 'provider' attribute to the connection does not work. The code is below:
set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
<strong>conn.Provider</strong>="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0"
conn.Open(Server.MapPath("mIndexDb.xls"))
set rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.recordset")
rs.Open "Select * From mIndexDbTable", conn

View 2 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic/Studio 2010 Express to run my VB program using MS Access database. I'm going to convert the Access database to a SQL Server Server Express data base so I downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2 Express onto my pc with Windows 7. The installation went fine and I actually converted my Access database to SQL server. I did not change anything in my VB program.My problem: When I run my normal program with the Access database (no changes), I now get an error when it executes the following code:
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader.
I get the error System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled;
ErrorCode=-2147467259; Message=ODBC--connection to 'SQL ServerBilotta-pcsqlexpress' failed.

It appears the ODBC is looking for the SQL server eventhough the program is pointing to the MS Access db. How do I get it to NOT look for the SQL db? Is there a default setting for the

View 1 RepliesI have an existing project written in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005 communicating to a SQL Server 2005 database. The database was migrated to a sql server 2008 r2 on a different physical server so the dataset's server name needs to be updated. I do not have access to the database anymore. is there a way to just update the server name without invoking the dataset wizard and requiring a connection to the database?
UPDATE: I tried to created a new project with just a button with the command calling the following subroutine to test the connection from a windows app to the sql server database. here is the sub:

Public Sub PubSubConnectToDB()

I am able to created a system dsn on the same server with the same credentials and test the connection successfully.
I am working on a project. Part of my project requires me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview(form2.vb) and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). The problem is the datagridview on my form must be able to display databases by making a connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 but so far, i have not been able to do that. I have seen many codes with regards to my problem but i do not know how to implement it.
Below are my codes that i have written so far. My program's limitations are not being able to display databases from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 so i created the statement below to add columns and test my codes.
DataGridView1.Columns.Add("CustName", "CustName")
DataGridView1.Columns.Add("Email", "Email")

I have a project where I added visually and successfully a datasource of MySql. I binded a datagridview with a table.
But, how do I change programatically the password, ip or user to connect with the MySql server? Because it can change at any time, so I can let the user change these values.

View 2 RepliesLooking into the problem I've seen that it's often due to running 64 bit VB but Access is 32 bit. However, I do not have Access on this machine, is there a way around this problem? I need to use Access for school, so changing that isn't an option.

Hundreds of our customers have an application that has used ODBC connections to their databases.I am writing a new application in VB.Net and am trying to use several ODBC connections and on all of them I am getting this error:The 'Microsoft.Jet.ODBC.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Here are a couple of connection strings I have tried that return that error:
Provider=microsoft.jet.ODBC.4.0;DSN=GeneralBill;UID=;PWD=;
Provider=microsoft.jet.ODBC.4.0;Driver={SQL Server};Server=Bill;Database=General;UID=;PWD=;
This one has me baffled.
I need to use the ODBC connections as we have hundreds of customers who have already configured them using a DSN or direct connections on another product that this program is going to complement.
I have an application in vb.net and ms access as backend. The problem is when application wants to connect with the database it will show an error like "The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.". My connectionstring is
"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"
& "Data Source=" & dbName &
";JET OLEDB:Database Password=******"
How can i solve this issue. My OS is windows 7 (64 bit).
Dear Microsoft: You should DEEPLY CONSIDER releasing a 64 Bit version of Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0.why x86 = 32 bit and x64 = 64 bit?
I use Jet.OLEDB.4.0 ALL THE TIME! I actually just finished a program yesterday that used the exact same line of code, and it works fine today but the new program does not.
Shared datasource As String = Application.StartupPath & "Parts.mdb"
Shared connectionstring As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=" & datasource

It should be noted that the BOTH code listings work correctly and error free on my business partners machine, also a Win 7, 64bit with the same current software installed.

View 6 RepliesI need to export data into an Access database. My code works, but it works with the assumption the client machine has the Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 as a valid provider.
I want to test to see if this is true or not, in code. My problem is that I don't have the location of an existing access database and I don't want to create a new .mdb that I'd use to verify the connection and then delete it.
