Im a beginner in visual basic 2010 im making my first project i created form3 for the search function so i created 2 checkbox to give the user the choice to choose to search by name or by date or by both of them and i created a button search then i created a datagridview to show up the results so im confused now how to start my project. should I start it with if checkbox1 checked then.... or what?
View 11 RepliesI uses datagridview for show query results from database which may have 0 to x number of rows. So I made calculation to calculate size of underlaying form and my datagridview dependable on number of matched rows. Underlying form is transparent and all of that looks like user control what appears and works just fine. But here is one issue: Every time datagrid have to grow, black square in that area is showed before datagrid is filled, what is not nice and surely unwanted. Did datagridview have some mechanism to freeze it and show data when populating is finished?

View 1 RepliesI have a form that allows users to select file and then it reads the contents, parses the data and then executes a sql insert statement to add it to a database. What I am having issues with is showing real-time results. Currently, I have the import operation take place on the import form within the OnLoad event. The problem with this is it only shows the final results instead of the results real-time. Is there anyway to do this without creating a seperate thread and delegates?

The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
I have written a code which adds some information to a database. No problem with that since the records get inside the database. My problem is that the record I added always shows up on my Search. I tried changing the variables so that none will have the same names between the two forms but it still shows.Example:
1. I added a record of a book which has an id of 1, name of Cisco, and total of 50. I added it thru the debug function.
2. I added a record of a book which has an id of 2, name of Link, and total of 30. This time, I added it directly on the database file itself.
2. I created a search button which will show records depending on the input of the user.If I type "1" for the ID, the first record will appear on the datagrid. If I type "2" for the ID, both records will appear. If I type "3" which I doesn't have any record with, the FIRST record will still appear. To summarize it, the record that I added through the program itself will always show up on the query results, no matter what I type into.

When I launch VB Help and do a search it shows under "Local Help", "Exception from HRESULT:0x8004032E". It lists three results under "MSDN Online", but the large field to the left of it is entirely blank. If I double-click blindly in that blank area it brings up various topics as if they were listed there but invisible. Further, the region under "Contents" is also blank, as is the "Filter by:" field. If I click the down arrow by the "Filter by:" field it brings up an entirely blank menu. If I then click outside the menu box it brings up a message saying "The selected filter contains an error that prevents it from being applied.". What's wrong and how can I fix it?

I want to (SQL) select from a table in an Oracle database, and show the results of the query in the VB application, in a Excel like manner (rows, columns, selectable, etc.). Or in a SQL developer manner. How can I do that? Browsed through a lot of tutorials and howtos on the internet, did not get anywhere. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that it's gotta be something with DataGridView. But I don't know how to create and populate a datatable with the result of as Select statement, how to create a dataset.

I need a clarification about using datagridview and query statement. i created a sql express database. In the project has been created a dataset with inside a table. In my form i used a datagridview and in automatic have been created BindingSource, TableAdapter, TableAdapterManager and BindingNavigator.
Till here everything is ok because i can add, delete and save members of the table.

View 1 RepliesI have been having an issue with returning records from a SQLServer database where the date the record was created is between 2 user specified dates. When I populate the DataGridView with the results, they are incorrect and do not follow any recognisable pattern.
For example, if I specify the dates 05/05/2010 and 12/05/2010 I get the attached data in the DataGridView.

I have a data bound datagridview on my form. I need the datagridview to sort by oldest date, and then return only the 150 oldest. The goal is to export the 150 rows with the oldest date to a .csv file and then update the date column to the current date for only those 150.
Here is what I have so far:

I can get it filter by the column "status" and then sort by "datelastemailed". I can also get it to export only those 150 to the .csv file. My issue is that I need only those 150 to have their date column updated to today's date and then saved to the database. The only way I can see to get that done is to set a max number of rows for my databound datagridview and then loop through each row in the date column. How I can create a filter that limits results?

I am making a project in VB 2008 that has a Form (form1) that allows me to add new records to a database, and another Form (form2) that allows me to search for records in a database. I have done Form1 already, but my problem arrives in Form2 where I have to query the database. This form consists of 1 textbox (txt_search.text), 1 button (btn_search) and 1 datagridview (datagridview1). The name of my database is db_extras_test2003.mdb and the table I want to search records from is tbl_contacts.
I know +/- the SQL sintax to query the database (SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnname = (here i dont know if i put the variable name i have set for the txtbox, or the textbox itself)).I want this in a way that I (or other users) type in the textbox, hit the Search button and the results are shown in the datagridview (i can show the results in another way if it is better to do so).I have done the connection to the database already. GridView1 is bound to a View, tblAccounts.
tblAccounts includes multiple columns, including a text field for 'AccountName'...this name can be in one of two columns.I'm trying have a user enter any part of an AccountName in txtSearch, click cmdSearch, and return all matches in tblAccounts to GridView1.
I had done this by using the query builder (in VS Studio) but soon found out thay I gain no points by doing it this way as I am not using any code. I have tried to adapt the code I had to insert data into my database, just changing the SQL sintaxa and some other bits, but it is not working yet. Well, it gives results, but I think it is still geting the results from the query I had built using the query builder. Here is the code I've got so far:

I attempt to prepare printing document by using WinAPI instead of (System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument) because Graphic.DrawString does not render Khmer Unicode properly. Only TextRendering.DrawText renders it properly. I believe Graphic is GDI+ wrapper and TextRendering.DrawText is using GDI. Furthermore, PrintDocument does not work with TextRendering.DrawText.

I'm trying to create a Windows form application which uses a few data grid views to pull data back from a SQL Server database. I've managed to get the data back okay from the tables but what I want to do is filter that data dynamically based on values input by the user from a combo box and a date time picker. Each of the data grids display production data for a machine but the combo box and date time picker will allow the data to be filtered by shift and date respectively - how to I pass the values of these to the SQL query returning the data?

View 2 RepliesI have a datagrid with a lot of column, but only a few group of it can be edited by user.On a CellEndEdit event i update automatically the database with the new value when the user modify one cell and then I must recharge the dataset of the dataview.If I modify a cell and then use tab or enter to move to the next one everithing is ok, but if I change a cell and then mouse_click on another one i get thi error when i recharge the dataset:
