I am working in Visual Basic 2008 and am trying to create an application that calculates body mass index. I have the entire form complete as well as much of the source code, but I am having trouble creating the code for input validation. On the form I have a text box for entering weight and a text box for entering height, which are both used to calculate the body mass index. Therefore, both text boxes input information cannot be negative or an illegal character ( $, @, !...) The input validation is supposed to present a Message Box that displays something along the lines of "Please enter numeric values" when input values are illegal characters "Please enter a positive number" when input values are negative "Invalid Entry" when input values equal 0
Here is my code:

I have a piece of code which sends email with an attachment from my application. The code uses MAPI to send the email. It opens up a new email message so the user can add to the email message, and then the user clicks send. The code works fine. However there is one small problem. The email that the code opens, is always in Microsoft Outlook. Sometimes the application's user has Outlook Express set up as the default client, but my application always opens the new email message in Microsoft Outlook. (Outlook 2003. In the one user's machine that has Outlook 2007, everything works fine and the email opens up in Outlook Express.)As I searched for a solution, I saw this problem posed many times in various places on the Internet, with no solution (or none that worked). I did try several suggestions which involved creating registry settings and registering some dlls.
I am teaching myself vb.net and wanted to change this code to have an embedded mail.boby from a text file instead of the file attachment. Code spippet below and where I need help is mail.Body = ("tracertALL.txt") that just puts the name of the file NOT the contents of the file. This code is a CMDWrapper that runs a batch file and I want the contents of a trace route that is pipe to a file >> tracertALL.txt .
I'm trying to update some older software which uses the now-declared-obsolete System.Web.Mail classes.Unfortunately, I don't really know a heck of a lot about email, so I'm looking for advice.
Here is the fragment of code I'm looking at revising:

From what I can tell, this should be configuring some kind of sending option. I can kind of work out what's going on, but I don't know how I should go about re-implementing it.It's looking like the place to be putting this stuff is now in the System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Credentials class, but the information in there doesn't seem to bear any resemblance to what I have here.I'm almost certain I'm making some obvious error, here, but I can't see it. Can someone tell me what I should be doing?
I'm teaching myself vb.net and found this VB.NET SMTP codeand I wanted to add a mail.cc and mail.bcc but get an error Property cc is ReadOnly.and don't know how to fix. then I found this code
Dim CC As MailAddress = New MailAddress(TextBox5.Text) 'For some reason it's required field mail.CC.Add(CC)
The objects I am trying to mass select are text boxes, and I am trying to select them all, without tediously selecting all of them, to see if any are blank and place in a 0 if any are.
MVC3, VB.NET. I have a function in my app that is supposed to use a html file's contents for the email body. However what I have so far is failing at the mail.body = file.readalltext(_body) line..
I have a listbox (ListBox5) and what i want to happen is when, and only when, a USB mass storage device is inserted a list of the files will appear on the listbox - and then when your press the button marked "Remove File" it will delete the selected file off the USB
I'm doing a mass email system using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and I'm suppose to use my codes to read the Email address from my Sql Server and send messages. My Default Smtp server is already running but my codes still cannot read the data from the sql server and send emails..
I'm making an art program involving 8x8 squares on a grid, but there are 64x64 grid square PictureBoxes for each grid square. Meaning there are 4096 picturebox squares to be setup.
I'm having them names like pic0001, pic0002, pic0003, etc... but re-naming them individually would take me forever. Is there a way to mass re-name them at once?
I'm using Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 to create a web service with VB.NET. I'm using a Stored Procedure in SQL Server 2008 so that SQL can insert all the data that I'm passing. The problem is that in one of the servicse I need to pass around 10,000 records and it's not very efficient to run the stored procedure 10,000 times.
I have a website that has 20,000+ members and i want to send each member a personalized admin update emails.I am currently sending about 200 emails at a time. To send to all the members, it takes me a few hours to complete. This is what I am trying to figure out how to implement. How can i possible build a webservice or something to send all these emails in the backgound at set intervales or something so I don't have to sit and click a button each time to send the emails out?I have seen many opt-in email list sites that when sending email, you get a page that the email was sent to the queue, and i receive an email back when the sending of all the emails is completed. This is something that i want to implement.
I want to be able to send emails to users on creation of an event to invite them. However I want the emails to be personalized i.e. each email will contain there name etc. At most the emails will be sent to 50 different addresses. What is the best way to go about this?
The code below updates all cells in a DataGridView column to a value from a textbox. This code works in that all cells in the desired column are updated on screen. The DGC is bound to a dataset. The problem is that when I call the dataset .Update method, sometimes the first row (row 0) does not get updated. I have run SQL profiler and can see that no SQL update command is submitted for the first row. The first row only gets skipped the first time the update is run after launching the app. Subsequent updates run for all rows, until the app is re-launched.
I have verified the row state is Unchanged with: Msgbox(DataGridView1.Rows(r).State.ToString).
The 2 commented lines below are other things I have tried that still cause the first row to be skipped.

how to read files from an USB mass storage device. I have found plenty of posts regarding drive letter detecting and reading the files. It's OK, but what about a device, where no drive letter is assigned - e.g. my mobile phone is visible under "My Computer" as "Mobile Device". The same situation it with my MP3 player. It's visible under "My Computer" as "Sansa device". Please, could anybody help me? I need to enumerate USB devices, identify, which ones have a file system and finally, I need to read/write a file to the file system.

I am doing a project on sending mass email. My codes should be able to read contacts/email from the SQL Server 2005 database and send mass email with attachments.Below are my codes for sending email. My windows application limitation is that it can only send email from a valid email address to a valid address one at a time with the help of a relay server. Also, it doesn't allow the user to attach attachments and could not read from the sql server database.[code]
