View 1 RepliesI have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.

However the AndAlso should short circuit in the case where the item is not a ToolStripMenuItem and it doesn't seem to be doing so (as TypeOf xItem Is ToolStripMenuItem=false in this case)?
The dropdown box displays all the items previously added to that column.
I want the user to be able to enter a new value OR just pick a previous value from the dropdown list. (This is when inserting a new row)
Problem:
Whenever I enter a value, it jumps around in my table like its on acid or something. Whenever I select a value from the list, it takes me to the line in which the value was originally entered.
How do I get it to do what I want.

View 1 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition - Visual Basic.I'm very new to VB but I would like to create a program / splash screen that displays a list of files (Word, Excel, Project) that are located on a CD. I'm not sure how to start other than starting out creating a new project.
Here is how I would like the program to work. The user inserts a CD-rom (containing the program and a folder with all the files) the program automatically starts up when the CD is inserted and it displays a list of all the files on the CD. The user can click any of the files to start the program that created it. Example, if we have an Excel file called "Work Schedule", the user could click it and it would open in Excel.
After I've created the project and have a form, I'm not sure what tools I need to use to display the list of files.I'm not sure how I set up the connection (path) between the program and the folder containing all files, especially as they will all eventually be located on the same CD.
I copied across all the code and got it going, but when I copied across the tool strip menu it came up with a Red X, where on the old project it was displaying fine. I removed the copied tool strip and dragged a new one onto the form, but even a brand new one with no modification comes up with a Red X. I tried a couple of the suggestions I could find on the internet, but none of them seemed to make any difference.
I tired stepping through the code (F8) but it does go anywhere near any tool strip code. I added a New Sub complete with InitializeComponents, but when it gets to initialise it goes yellow and then next step goes to End Sub. I though in previous projects it went to another class and setup the components on the form. Just got home and thought I would throw a button on the form to see if it would display that and it does.

2. Create a textbox for the user to input the guess and also a 'guess' button.
3. If the user is outside the given range, provide a proper message (<1 Is not a valid guess or >900 is not a valid guess)and clear the guess.
4. When a user has a valid guess, display a proper message (either too high or too low) and tell the user to guess again.
5. With a correct guess, display a proper message and change the form's background color to red and disable the guess textbox.
6. Create a reset button that allows the user to play the another game with a new random number.
7. Create a show me button that displays the number and does not generate another random number (allow the current game to continue).
8. Create a exit button to exit the program.
9. Ensure that you include error checking to prevent a user guess that is out of the given range and for any non-numeric characters.
10. Create a single Help menu item that launches a message box that displays valuable and meaningful information for the program and usage.
11. Create a label that tracks the guess count per game. Each time a new number is generated, start the guess count at 0.
12. Create a max guess limit set to 5 and use a progress bar to track the progress to approach the limit.
13. After each valid guess (1-900), clear the guess and update a label/textbox that displays all of the previous guesses up to 5 entries.
Here is my code so far. I have been working on one point at a time and then testing it. I have not even made it to numbers 11 - 13. I am not getting actual errors. Instead of my reset button clearing all fields at once I am having to click it more than once. Instead of displaying messages per scenario the message label is staying on either input a number or your number is too low. When the user clicks on a Menu Item i want the container to show some controls, now when the user clicks another Menu Item, the container needs to change and show other controls, and so on with every menu Item the user clicks, one at a time.
I thought of panels showing and hiding for every menu Item clicking, but that would use a lot of memory as ALL the controls would be created, some of them just not showing. I also though of an MDI application, but i dont want multiple forms (with the menu bar) opening inside one form. I just want the actual container of one form to change.
We are in the final stages of releasing a new in-house written system within our company. We have opted to create a single system/project containing multiple programs (like a mini ERP system).We are stuck on the navigation mechanism which will allow the user to load the appropriate forms. I am personally not a fan of the Tree View control because I think it is unfriendly to users. I have been looking on the web for some inspiration and I am interested in the design of the OPEN BRAVO ERP system. Before we dive in though, I wanted to get other programmers opinions. So far this hasn't been an issue except for this case.In a context menu, I have a text box that a user can type into. However, the context menu doesn't seem to let me input a label next to it so that the user knows what the text box is for. So, I wanted to paint the text box myself but I can't get the routine to work.I have tried to put the following code in the paint event for both the context menu and the text box itself. In the paint method for the context menu, the string and the text box show up at the top of the menu. Not 3 items down like it should. Also, I don't think the end result is truly a text box.[code]I believe that txtRect is set to the rectangle for the context menu and not for the text box itself. If you run this code, "Filter By:" should show up at the top of the context menu.
