I am looking to create a menu system in vb 2010 windows app. See attached file to give you an idea of what I want to achieve. I could do it by creating 4 buttons and have 4 panels. when button one is pressed make panel one visible and hide other 3 panels, etc This just seems messy. Will any of the built in VB menu components do this?

I've search the net in order to create a custom control but nothing I find is worth looking at, The main thing I want to do is create a skinengin via DLL and import it in my vb 2010 then using or creating some sort of skin builder where I can create a full setting file which contains all the details of the customization regarding the Form(Look, Feel and the controls such as a menu), I have used Iriskin and multiple apps doing this for me and when a user installs my application they still recieve a message about buying the registered DLL file, I would like to create it completely from scratch.
View 2 RepliesI am working on a project that is pretty much done, but I wanted to put the finishing touch on it.I have a shock wave flash object over most of my form, and I load shock wave files onto it so they are accessible from the main flash object. But one of the shock wave menus I have is pretty much just flat, and I was wondering how I can make it a little transparent like the windows 7 GUI so you can kind of see a blur of whats behind the GUI.

View 10 RepliesWith a Windows form that I would like to be a DDE server. I know that DDE is not natively supported in VS 2010/11 so I'm using the NDde.dll to add DDE functionality to this program.
Objective: Create a windows form to act as a Pop-up notification that has a textbox field. This textbox field must be selectable in order for users to copy a text string to the clipboard and paste into another program that does not support DDE.
Overview: A phone system has an on-screen agent program that triggers a pop-up form, the DDE Server, when an incomming call is presented. When the agent accepts the call the agent program, acting as a DDE Client, registers a DDE session, Application=phnserver and Topic=callerid. Then communicates an "OnExecute" command to the DDE Server followed by a number string. This string should be presented on the pop-up form in a text box. Once the call is completed the agent application will issue a command to close the pop-up form.

I have a System.Windows.Forms.Timer named "DialogBoxTimer" set up on a form. When the form loads, it has a command to stop the timer. I have a routine [SPDataRecd(...)] that handles SerialPort1.DataReceived from a serial port (modem). When it is activated by a modem event, I want it to start the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Start()], but it doesn't work.If the timer is running, SPDataRecd can *stop* the timer [DialogBoxTimer.Stop()], but it can't start a stopped timer.
View 6 Repliesone of the apps that I wrote a couple months ago is getting to be rolled out to my production floor; one issue tho - It works great as a standard executable (you double-click, it starts and waits for data), however, I cannot get it to start as a system service.
I've already done a little bit of research for how to create a system service, but most of the information that I've come across is point to VC# or Visual Studio 2010 - I'm not finding much for VB 2010. Additionally, I'm only using VB 2010 Express and I'm pretty sure that I don't have the Windows Service application template's on my PC.
My application does have a "UI", but there isn't any user interaction; it starts and just sits minimized in the system tray polling a directory for the existence of a file - i.e. the windows form is not required.

I recently installed WSP Builder on a machine with Visual Studio 2008 already installed.Quite expectedly, the WSP Builder sub-menu appeared (and still appears) under the Visual Studio 2008 Tools menu.Having then installed Visual Studio 2010 Professional and installed WSP Builder a second time, I can not seem to find the WSP Builder sub-menu anywhere under any of the Visual Studio 2010 menus.Can anyone throw some light on this "missing menu" problem?

View 2 RepliesI've decided to learn Visual Basic .Net as this is what some of my colleagues work with, and this will allow me to work with them on projects.I have purchased Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step and downloaded the sample files. When I am trying to debug the first sample application (a Windows form), it is telling me that it can't load System.Drawing V4.0.0.0. However, if I create a new Windows Form application (C# or VB.Net) this works fine.
I had a look at the References tab in the project settings and System.Windows.Forms is referenced, but the version referenced is 2.0.0.0. I have removed and re-added this reference and it stays at 2.0.0.0 and I still get the error.Does anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on?

This is my 1st time i deploy a system in vb and i deploy it at the desktop So after i install my system, i can see my system in the system menu.But may i know that why my system cant open in the system menu, it is not type .exe while is ClickOnce Application Reference and each time i need open to my system is from my location desktop setup.exe there, is it normal ? Besides that, may i know how to make my system install in the program file directory?
View 3 RepliesI noticed that adding a MenuStrip (from the Toolbox) to my form design doesn't yield a menu bar like many native Windows applications. Instead I get a menu bar like Visual Studio's own. None of the style settings for MenuStrip appear to mimic the much more common native menu bar.Is there a way to add a menu bar to my Windows Forms application that looks the same as the one you see in Notepad, Task Manager and others? (Preferably with the designer, but I wouldn't mind adding it programmatically either.)
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a application which suppose to work as a interface between multiple applications. as a example, one PBX system sends me data via TCPIP or COM ports and I manipulate it and send to PMS application. likewise PMS also send me data which I need to send back to PBX system.By query is, I don't have a fix number of communication interfaces and it can go up to 8 - 10 or may be more and they should work independently (should be able to switch off communication at any time in any interface).
In this situation, I cannot handle everything in one service or two since I don't know how many interfaces going to be. So I'm thinking a way to create services dynamically such as when user create a new interface in application it automatically creates the windows service on server or pc.I don't really need to create services remotely since my application will install only in one pc or a server and system administrator will access the server for the configurations.

But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.
