Create A New Project Some Custom Values Stay The Same?
Sep 29, 2011
As you can see thats a properties window for an object, but is there a way to customize the properties, so that everytime I create a new project some custom values stay the same?
I've created a custom user control that has several properties. One specifies which database I want the control to access. I want to be able to present the user of the control a drop down from which he can select which database the control will interact with. How do I get the dropdown to work? I can get default values, but have yet to figure out how to get the selectable list.
I'm planning to create a standalone problem that triggered by scheduler. When the program is triggered, I would like the program to stay on top all the time, even though user clicks on other programs.
This is what I would like to achieve:To create a custom messagebox, with varying number of buttons with custom .Text descriptions, and other features. I intended to have a property array that would be redim-ed and have values (.Text values) set by the calling class:
how to specify a custom icon for display in the toolbox window when you create your own custom control? Something other than the dreaded "gearbox" icon.
With VB.net, I'm coding a simple application to get more used to the new .Net format.
I'd like to save all the information to a 'new' database file. how to create a database on the fly, once that is done i'll be able to connect to it no problem, but actually creating the file is proving difficult to work/find out.
Also, with vb.net and the newly created custom file, how can it be made to automatically open that information with the program?
Is there a method in installation to associate the file type with the new program? How can i check when the program loads if a database file has been 'double-clicked' (rather than just running from the .exe of the program) and proceed to load the data?
EDIT1 - Extra InfoThe windows application has many different fields and content etc, then i need to save that to a file that could later be loaded by 'double clicking'. I assumed the easiest way would be to create a mini-database for each unique file
I am not a new coder, but i am not a know-it-all. I have been watching some of those NVidia fluid videos, and got jealous. I thought "Why can't i do it?" I'm not good enough for OpenGL or some other 3d engine, but i thought i would try it in 2d.
I am working on a project that has some events already created and working. One of these events is called SelectedIndexChanged Event. I am using it for one of my Subs in my frmNewInspection Class, and I am trying to use it for a second Sub and it says that "Event SelectedIndexChanged Cannot Be Found".
The event is created here in a class called LabelComoBox Private Sub tctlInspection_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tctlInspection.SelectedIndexChanged 'MsgBox("Index: " & tctlInspection.SelectedIndex.ToString) [Code] .....
I have a dll I created using VS 2008. I was able to add a reference to it in all my VB.NET projects built in VS 2008 with no issues. I added a reference...added an import statement....created a reference in my code and viola! All is good. I recently switched to VS 2010 and tried to re-use my trusty dll file in my new vb.net 2010 projects and all is good until I try to build and/or run the project. I get the following error whenever I try to do either...
'Type 'CustomFunctionsClass2010.CustomFunctions2010' is not defined.'I have tried all sorts of things from rebuilding the dll from scratch in the new VS 2010 IDE to changing where the file is stored on the network to placing the dll on my local drive and nothing seems to get me past this error. I even tried placing the dll in both the debug and release folders with no luck or change in the error shown. Am I stuck just not being able to write and use my own dll's?Here is a snippet showing how I am using it in
Imports CustomFunctionsClass2010.CustomFunctions2010 Public Class GetShowTimeData Sub GetShowTimeData(ByVal dtStartDate As Date, ByVal dtEndDate As Date)
I'm just not able to add a custom TabControl to my project. I have found a custom tabControl here: [URL]. The CustomTab consists out of 4 .vb files. Normally I would add a component (.dll or exe) to my project. I tried adding the 4 .vb files but unfortunately no CustomTabControl.
I have filled a DVG with information and added another column to index(8) pragmatically Now i want to create a combobox with values depending on values in other cells on the same row so each row will have a combo box with different selections. below i have placed the code and hoped someone would have some input on how to approach this. i have tried datagridviewcolumn but that fills every row with the same information regaurdless of a if statement
im still fairly new to this. i have written a program, built it and created my setup project and can install it no problems, however, in the "setup view" where you have the threefolders "Application folder" "Users Desktop" and "Users Programs menu" ... u know "the file system view/setup1" ... well here is the problem, i click on "Application folder" and change the "default location" ... so i can specify the program is installed in "C:ProgramFilesJohns AppCalculator" ...... BUT when i build the setup and install the program it does not appear in this location !! arghh i can see all the program files on my pc ... except mine ( i have tried all day and all night the only way i can get it to appear here is by INCLUDING the "project output" into THIS folder ..... even though i only want it to be on the "users desktop" ....
I am using vb2008,I imported Custom Tool from my other project,It is on my project,But it is showing Below Warning, Not Error..!Warning Could not find type 'VBProject2.AxMSHFlexGrid Array'.Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced. If this type is a part of your development project, make sure that the project has been successfully built.
I'm developing a solution that I'm going to split into two different directions.I've built custom controls for the first application, and now I'm creating a new solution where I'm importing all the Forms and Modules to the new solution I'm developing by using "Add Existing Item" from the Solution ExplorerWhen doing this, most of the errors I'm receiving I'm able to correct by "Find & Replace" with the new name of the new solution. (They seem to be references to the old name of the solution, that I simply replace with the new name. Example. Global.Xname..... I now replace with Global.Yname.
I want to create a custom class that has inside an array of another custom class (see my code below) but when the programm runs is crashes. Why? What is the right expression???? Plz help I'm a newbie in VB.net.....
Public Class ctrarray Public nameclass As String Public ctrlindex(glvar_spaces) As ctrlindexclass End Class
I need two seperate lists, which every item is Integer, String, Bitmap - and one which every item is Integer, String String. However I don't know how to do this, or even where to look - I've googled for custom objects and custom object lists. What I'm trying to do is this.Custom Object1 is Integer, String, Bitmap Custom Object2 is Integer, String, String
In one thread I'll be adding items to List1(Of Object1), and processing them, and adding the results to List2(Of Object2), however I need to be able from other threads to look at the list and say only give me the items where Integer = (my thread ID), is this possible? Any help, or even links to information that would be relevant to this request would be helpful?
I have one successful VB program in VS Studio 2010 Express Now, I want to add features to it but keep the original as is. Is there a way to save the current project with a different name without loosing the path, resources used and code? I did try to copy the project directory to a different directory named "TMP" but it does not work.
how to create a new project from an existing project?
Are there any third-party scripting editors that are available as controls (DLLs) for custom projects? I am interested in knowing what is out there and what scripts are provided?
I have a main application and the setup project for the app in a single solution.I have custom classes to detect in sql server 2005 express is installed. if it is not I have classes to install it and create my database. Now I need to call the above classes from my setup project before it installs my actual application on a client pc.
What actually is required to consider something installed on a machine. What happens in the background? I know VB offers an installer but Im trying to build my own from scratch. What do I need to do to accomplish this?
I'm working on a windows form project where the first form displays a menu list made up of custom textbox controls. When the user navigates to a textbox and presses enter the underlying code runs another form and hides the menu form. The form to run and the navigations sequence is controlled by properties I added to the custom textbox. I have done the same with a custom button. Both custom control inherit from their respective Windows.forms controls.
I am trying to create a custom LabelFor helper to apply by default instead of the standard LabelFor helper include in System.Web.Mvc.Html. I want my LabelFor to take model properties that are PascalCase and make a label that appears as multiple words. For example the property FirstName would appear as "First Name".
I found this post that shows how to make a custom LabelFor helper that allows the addition of html attributes. I recreated this helper in VB.Net and modified it to do what I want, but I am not able to get it to work.
[Code]...
The sample includes this Module in Namespace System.Web.Mvc.Html but when I add the namespace declaration to this module everything in the rest of the project goes haywire. For example, each of my models has a Primary Key property that is a Guid datatype and as soon as I add the namespace above to the module, I get several errors stating that System.Guid is not defined among other similar errors.
I've tried to import my project namespace into a view in order to use the custom helper, but then I get an error that says Overload resolution failed because no 'LabelFor' is most specific for these arguments.I am trying to avoid having to specify a DisplayName for every PascalCase property I have in many models.
I'm coming over from VB6 in which you could use 'user controls' to create reusuable custom controls. They were simple and contained and you can easily create several instances of a user control within the same or other apps. In vb2008 there are user controls but I can not figure out how to add them to forms or or other apps. Can someone please give me the the basic steps to add a custom user control to a form or project.
I have a custom control. I need to add a property, say, Comparison, to the control. The property should be set at design time using a dropdown. The Dropdown will have String values like '=','>','<' etc. I tried using Enum values and working perfectly but I need to do some extra coding to convert the Enum values to the string I required. It would be great if I can get the values from the dropdown so that I can directly use the selcted value.
How is conditional compilation controlled for a VisualBasic web? For a VB Windows app, I put a conditional variable in Project > Compiler tab > Advanced > Custom controls.
How in a VB web app is a conditional compilation variable assigned that can be accessed by all the files of the web app?
I need to install a windows service via an .msi for many tablets which is nooooo problem. The problem is, the tablets currently have the service running which was installed by installutil. So when my installer runs, regardless of Remove Previous Version is true, it stops stating the service already exists and to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs. So I wrote a console app which preceeds the primary output as follows:
Sub Main() Try Dim filename As String = "C:Program FilesRSCProjectServiceSetupRSCProjectService.exe" 'Dim filename As String = "C:RSCProjectServiceRSCProjectServiceinDebugRSCProjectService.exe" If System.IO.File.Exists(filename) Then
I created this function to remove vbCrLf from the values of properties in a Custom Class:(vTransaction)
Public Function ValidateTransaction(ByRef vTransaction) Dim property1 As String Dim value1 As String For Each p As System.Reflection.PropertyInfo In vTransaction.GetType().GetProperties() If p.CanRead Then
[Code]...
Throughout testing I can verify that vbCrLf is being replaced with a space as expected. When I re-examine vTransaction the changes have not been retained and the vbCrlf's are still there. What do I need to do to retain the changes being made to values in vTransaction.
