Database - SQL Syntax Errors On Update And Insert Statements
Jun 14, 2011
I wrote simple update/insert statements that are returning a syntax error, what am I missing? The table name is notes, the field note is type memo, acaps is a double. update notes set note='why is there a syntax error' where acaps=12345

I am trying to do simple insert, update, delete, select statements within VB .NET to access a MS Access database. I have tried all kinds of solutions offered on the web and while the code seems to work, no rows are inserted. Also, I have tried, unsuccessfully, to use the Try/Catch to see if there's an error with no success. I have attached the versions of VB .Net and MS Access I am using: Here's the code:

here is my code so far:
Public Sub cmdSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSave.Click
Dim i As Integer
[Code].....
when i click the button, i get a error message saying "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement". as far as i can tell, i have everything i need to insert a new row into the database, and i dont see why this problem is occuring.
item(0) is an autonumber key field, so that should make a new record by itself, and i have declared the input textboxes as the data() array

I am trying to execute a command that inserts a row but I keep getting the error "Database error Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement." What am I doing incorrectly? I know for Ole Db refers to the parameters by sequence and I've done in the correct sequence. I left out the ID since it is auto generated could that be causing a problem?

I have several text boxes I need to validate. I am not understanding how to validate in Visual Basic 2008. So I deployed standard If Statements to handle bad data. I am having two problems.
Lets say the user entered wrong data, example, numbers; an error message is displayed. The text boxes cannot contain numbers, be left empty or contained characters, like !@#$. The problem is if the user enter text, and then entered a wrong data again the code does not work or display error message. How can I make the conditions so that they throw out error message even if the user had previously entered good data.
Another example: If the user enter good data in text box 1 and bad data in text box 2, the error message does not work.
Finally, how do I filter out characters to allow only text. Is there a way to use this code on multiple text boxes with out writing the entire code for each form control?
Here are the conditional statements.
Private Sub btnDataSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDataSubmit.Click
If IsNumeric(txtDataEntry.Text) Then
lblErrorDisplay.Text = "Invalid Name!"
lblErrorDisplay.BackColor = Color.Red

I have finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century and I'm learning VB.NET

I get a "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement" on the da.update line. The bulk of the code is copied from a working section of the program, I have just added the "newrow" stuff. I am pretty confident I have the names of all the fields correct.

Syntax error (comma) in query expression 'Ime='Blagojce', Prezime='', Adresa='', Grad='', Telefonski_br='( ) -', Fax='( ) -', e_mail='''
Here is my connection string:
command.CommandText = "DELETE * FROM podatoci WHERE Ime='" & ime & "', Prezime='" & prezime & "', Adresa='" & adresa & "', Grad='" & grad & "', Telefonski_br='" & broj & "', Fax='" & fax & "', e_mail='" & email & "'"
where ime, prezime and so on are ListView selected items.

I am using VB.NET 2010 and SQL Sever CE 3.5 database. I insert some data into my database (SDF file) and I can do any all manipulations with those data. But I cannot see those data in the data table using Data Source or Server Explorer in Visual Studio. Even If I check it once in Server Explorer, all data in the database will be deleted.

I have made a small form where I have bound textbox with records from database.Although my code for inserting and updating the record seems fine and working. But when I view the database, tables i see no inserts/updates made there. But When I run my application again, I see the records in the bound textbox but only for some seconds (for around 1 and half minutes), although they are not shown in the database (tables) actually.
When I close the application and run again it after 1-2 minutes there are no more records bound to the textbox, since no records at all.How can this be possible. I don't have any idea what's going on.
I have been using visual studio 2008 and sql server.Code I have been using for ::
'Update the Records Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click

I've been trying to solve this problem for quite some time. I have an application that uses the WebBrowser control to provide some navigation capabilities to the user but depending on what website the user is going, there are some syntax errors coming up. These erros would normally not disturb the user under Internet Explorer so I'm trying to hide them some how.
