Nov 25, 2008I am saving some operational log information into a XML file. At any time the user can bring up a datatable to display the information. I don't want them to see the 'HOURLY' log. I can't seem to filter this out. Also I need to populate a list box with all the unique events for filtering.

Sep 15, 2011I need some advice I have a bound datagrid and a bound combobox lookup on a form. What i want to do is filter the combo box so it only shows the items left that are not in the datagrid already.
I have managed to achieve this already.But when the program runs, and there are items displayed in the data grid the combo box items are now filtered.The program crashes as it can't display the combobox item as i have filtered them out. The program runs fine if the datagrid is empty (IE combobox items not filtered). But as soon as there is a record in the datagrid when i save the database and refresh the combo box the program falls over is the items it is looking for is not in the combo box items list.
What would a work around be. I have thought of a separate combo box that is hidden and use the datagrid combobox events to show it in the correct position.Just to be tedious the displayed item is not the stored item value

May 3, 2010I have a listbox and a Datagrid, both bound to a database. The listbox contains Names, and the datagrid contains the records of those names. I am tryin to filter out the datagrid, so when i click on one of the names , it will only show those records. Right now when i click on one of the names, it displays that record, but im still seeing the rest of the records from the other names. i know it something like
work_Order.DefaultView.RowFilter = "Name='" & NamesListbox.SelectedItem & "'".
datagridview1.DataSource = work_Order.DefaultView
work_Order = name of the table
Where would i insert the code in? on the form, or on the grid properties?

Sep 24, 2008I have a child form which contains a list of names and information, like age, sex, etc, in a multicolumn listview that gets populated from an xml file on the form load.There is also a combobox on this form that contains different Ages and when the user selects an age in the combobox I have it so the listview clears and the data reloads then removes all the rows that don't contain the matching "age" value in the age column.This works but it's really slow since each time a user makes another choice from the Combobox the whole listview is repopulated from the xml file.[code]I was thinking about doing the Name filter about the same way except on the textbox keyup event, but I fiqured I'd work at getting this working better first since this is way too slow.I don't really know any way of filtering the listview other than deleting the entries that don't match what's in the combobox.But then I end up reloading the whole thing when another selection is made from the combobox.

Dec 29, 2009I am creating a form to display data in a DataGrid that is bound to a .mdb Query. I am semi-experienced in VB6 Programming, but relatively new to VS8 and all of the features. I created the form, and have the DataGrid that displays all of the info in the query. I would like to be able to filter the form to only display data that matches what the user would type into a text box on the form (I have a text box created as well as a command button that says "Search by...").
Additional Info - I do not have, nor do I want, the DataGrid Navigator displayed on the form.
I want the user to be able to type a value in the text box (Rack Number), then press the button (Search by Rack Number) to only display the data in the DataGrid that corresponds to the rack that matches the text box.

Filtering What Characters Can Be Added To A Text Box?
Jan 27, 2010I have a series of text boxes on my form, and my client wants me to filter out characters that aren't allowed, for example in the name field you cannot have symbols or numbers.
Now, he wants it so when you try and put in a special character it simply will not get entered into the text box. I know the logistics to this, but I'm not sure how I would go about coding it.
Basically what needs to happen is when the user types in characters like $, ^, 5, * etc, a function needs to recognise this and stop them from being entered into the textbox, whether it means deleting them as soon as they go in or interrupting the action altogether.
