In VB6 you can debug.print multiple values from a loop to a single line by simply adding the ";" or "," chars.

I have a project that the debug.print "something" function has stopped showing in the "immediate window", or any other window. This has been working fine.If I create a new project the "debug.print "something" works fine.I did have to do a uninstall/reinstall of VS 2010 yesterday maybe something changed. Is there a setting that tells "debug.print" where to print?
View 1 RepliesI have an app that runs silently everytime the user logs in. But I want to be able to pass it a parameter to make it print to the console. I use a conditional if statement to do this now, but I would have to recompile the project to set it to false or true.
View 5 RepliesI opened an older project and it works fine. Using syntax: debug.print ("OK") and look for printed line in immediate window. Is there some setting I could have inadvertently disabled or have maybe discluded some imports? Only import is forms.
View 2 RepliesCan anyone explain the following immediate window behavior:
Debug.Print mDb.DatabaseOptions Method arguments must be enclosed in parentheses.
Debug.Print(mDb.DatabaseOptions)Value of type 'DatabaseOptions' cannot be converted to 'String'.
? mDb.DatabaseOptions
{Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.DatabaseOptions}
AnsiNullDefault: False
UserData: Nothing
According to MS documentation The question mark (?) is an alias for Debug.Print This is clearly not 100% true, as the two statements exhibit differing behaviors in the example above. If it makes any difference, I am using the Express Edition of VB 2008.
When I add a debug.print line to my code, it doesn't send the output to the immediate window. I did a search of the forum for debug.print, and found the identical problem, but, the solution listed did not work for me. Basically it said to set the solution configuration to "Debug" as opposed to "Release".
View 3 RepliesI have a fellow employee who is learning Visual Basic and in one of her assignments she is using the debug.writeline statement. Example: Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Debug.WriteLine("This line always prints") End Sub When you run the program, nothing prints to the Output window. I have tried it in VS2008 and VS2010. Brian Allison
View 7 RepliesI tried using: dim x as double= 10.0 debug.print(x.tostring) in my Visual Studio 2005 program but it doesn't display anything in the immediate window. It works in my Visual Basic Express 2008 program. How can I get it to work in Visual Studio?

I am trying to log the contents of an object to a text file. I can get the property-value pairs I want to log by executing this line in the immediate window[code]...
I am writing a alternative to GDI, and rigth now i am working at a logging function. The idea is that while you use the class to draw, it will write a logg of what you have done, which can be used to draw it back later. In that way i would be able to store a drawing with weary little disk usage.

Is there any way to pass multiple values (a list of values) to a query via ODBC Parameters in VB.Net?
For instance, is there a way to create a query along the lines of:
-- vb.net has something like Dim itemNumbers As New List(Of Integer)(SomeCount)
SELECT Cost, Description
FROM MyItemList
WHERE ItemNum IN (<my list of item numbers>)
I have a little challenge. I have a report that I declared a parameter called Department that has default values like this: [Code] The problem is that when I test this (with CR10 or on web), and I select multiple values, the thing does not show the values for the multiple values. It only works when I select a single department. What should I do?
View 2 RepliesI have the following test method (VB.NET)
<RowTest()> _
<Row(1, 2, 3)> _
Public Sub AddMultipleNumbers(ByVal number1 As Integer, ByVal number2 As Integer, ByVal result As Integer)
Dim dvbc As VbClass = New VbClass()
Dim actual As Integer = dvbc.Add(number1, number2)
Assert.That(actual, [Is].SameAs(result))
End Sub
My problem is that when the test runs, using TestDriven.Net, the three method parameters are 0 and not the values I am expecting. I have referenced the NUnit.Framework (v.2.5.3.9345) anf the NUnitExtension.RowTest (v.1.2.3.0).
I'm almost sure that I've seen this somewhere, but I can't find it anymore. Or maybe I'm imagining it, which would'nt be strange either.
When creating a sub or function and adding parameters used when calling it.
-Is it possible to list the parameters that I can enter when using it somewhere in my code?
E.g.
Public Sub MessageMain(ByVal Message As String, ByVal MessageType As String (List of possible values for MessageType)) Same for example as when you have boolean values in a sub/function. As soon as you use that somewhere in your code intellisense will present you with True/False to select.
I'd like the same for parameters in subs or functions I create and calling them from somewhere in my code. Saves me the trouble of remembering which options are available for those parameters.
get all values from form1 and print it to form2 simply.the form one have text box values, check box values, radio button values

how to print the values of the items on a listbox to a textfiles. im trying to generate a report based on a query against a database. ive tried using linq to sql but it dint work presummably coz im usin an mdb database. is there an easier way of obtaining the values from a queerry and generating a report.

Simple question that does not seem to be covered: If I use a lot of Debug.WriteLine statements in my code, will they be completely absent in my production version?
I mean: Is the compiler smart enough to not emit any code for those calls? Or would I have to surround them by #if DEBUG..#end if directives?
I'm writing a query to select all records that has any part of parameter. I have one table called Employees. Some people have name like this: John David Clark If the parameter is
[Code]....
I should be able to get result back as long as there's a match in the parameters. If I use Function Contains (q.FirstName & " " & q.LastName).Contains(employeeName), I will not get any result back if employeeName is "John Clark" Function Contains looks only for next words from left to right. It doesn't match a single word at a time. So that's why I used this in the Linq to SQL:
[Code]....
I am getting error [07002] the # binded parameters < the # of parameters makers, i checked both parameters were perfect even though i am getting this error here is my code

I need to be able to start with Form1, move to LoginForm, then back to Form1 taking 2 variables and the "values" they have in the LoginForm back to Form1 and using the variables. I start with the main form (Form1) and have the user enter some information. Once they click OK I have the LoginForm open. After they enter their credentials I will check to make sure they are legal users, then go back to Form1 (here is where I need to take the Username and Password with me) to log onto a server using the same credentails from the login form.
View 1 RepliesBasically Commands has Parameters and parameters has functions like Add, AddWithValue, and etc. In all tutorials i've seen, i usually noticed that they are using Add instead of AddWithValue.

since it saves my coding time. So which is better to use? Which is safe to use? Does it improves performance?
is there a way to get the GET parameters and POST parameters in just one function or Collection in ASP.NET? Like using $_REQUEST in PHP? I'm using VB.NET.

How can i print the search result.
I have been able to do the exercise's in the first 2 chapters and half the exercise's in the third chapter of the text book (programming in visual basic 2008, Julia Case Bradley & Anita C. Millspaugh). but this one is making my head want to explode. please point me in the right direction with this.
Heres the problem. The company has instituted a bonus program to give its employees an incentive to sell more. For every dollar the store makes in a four-week period, the employees receive 2 percent of sales. The amount of bonus each employee receives is based upon the percentage of hours he or she worked during the bonus period (a total of 160 hours). The Calculate button will determine the bonus earned by this employee, and the Clear button will clear only the name, hours-worked, and bonus amount fields. A Print button allows the user to print the form. Do not allow missing or bad input data to cancel the program; instead display a message to the user.
Here's my code so far. its giving me the wrong results. i have tried many different ways,(hence the commented code) but I just dont know where im going wrong.

i want to populate a report and print it directly without the user hitting the print button.
i have this working in a diffrent project but for some reason it wont work in this one.
i get the error missing parameter, on the last line of my code
Dim paramFields As New ParameterFields
Dim paramField As New ParameterField
Dim discreteVal As New ParameterDiscreteValue

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do these from a simple text box. i.e. 'TextBox1'.
I'm just learning VB and it's only a simple text editor but I can't find any good sites or posts that help me in understanding how to do it. These are not really covered in any of the 'beginner' books I have acquired either.
My instructor told us how to print documents and how to use databases. What the instructor did not mention is how to print or print a preview of records within a DatabaseDataSet. The book "Programming in Visual Basic 2010" does not explain how to print or do a print preview of Database Source records from within a form. The only thing I was told was to test the print document first before you try to do a print preview. Within a form I used a DataGridView to add, delete, and update the database. So now all I need to do is figure out how to print the updated records from the DataGridView and how to print a preview of the records within the DataGridView. So I hope my question is clear enough to give me assistance on how I can perform these two actions. Thanks this would be a great help, and since the class is online we can get assistance from any sources that we have.
View 5 RepliesI'm very very very new to VB.Net and am doing a class project. I want the user to simply clicka print button and get a printout of an existing Word document. Is this possible and if so, can someone suggest the code?
