View 4 RepliesIs there a way i can execute a CLI program and have it output or return what the CLI program sais, such as ping etc.
View 3 Repliesi have tried altering some code i have to ping an ip address and store the result in an access db.i had it working when i had the ip hardcoded in as a string but I am now gettin an error.instead of having the ip address hardcoded in to the code i want it to be read in from the access db but im now getting this error:System.nullreferenceExceptionbject reference not set to an instance of an object at...button1.click event args ei have underlined the piece of code i tried to change
Imports System.Data
Public Class Form1
Dim Ping As Net.NetworkInformation.Ping

I started this tutorial on sub procedures and am having trouble trying to get this program to execute properly. The problem lies with the total. I am trying to figure out the math part of it. When I hit F5 I can see this
Item Quantity Price.
Pizza Slices
Fries
Soft Drinks
Total
But I can't get them to add up and display the quantity and price. I tried the ByVal and ByRef code but am not sure if I did it right
Here is the code that I have so far:
Public Class Form1
Private Sub btnCompute_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCompute.Click
Dim pizza, fries, drinks, total As Double
[CODE]...
I have to create a program where you enter the description, price, and quantity of an item, then click on the Add button. It will then put the description, price, quantity, and total for that line (including tax) in a listbox. The tax is determined by what you put in a text box labeled tax:. When you press Submit Order, it should show a grand total in a text box called Grand Total. It should have a class that is called Items that has a function called GetTotalAmount() that figures out the total including tax. I have started it, but am having a tough time with how to get the subtotals into the text box, then also show the amount including the tax PLUS then do the grand total.
Heres what I have so far:

I'm attempting to convert VB 5.0 source code to VB 2008. The converted code will then be slightly altered to facilitate its incorporation into a larger project that I'm developing in VB 2008. After using the conversion wizard (which is actually written for VB 6.0), I have 49 unresolved issues -- less than I expected. Much has changed since the days of my prowess as a programmer (Fortran in the 70's), so working my way through even as few as 49 issues will be a challenge, and will (no doubt) take me a while.
The UI for the VB 5.0 code I'm converting is a "virtual remote," with control buttons that (when clicked) trigger communication to a USB-connected device. With assistance, I've been able to develop my own "virtual remote," contained within my VB 2008 project. Eventually, I will "substitute" mine for the original. For now, though, I'm wanting to use MY "virtual remote" to trigger the original.
I have the executable for the VB 5.0 program, and can run it simultaneously with my "under-development" VB 2008 code. Problem is: I don't know how to cause a "click" on MY virtual remote to trigger a click on the original virtual remote (which is being "monitored" by the other program).
I am trying to write a program to ping computers on my network to see if they are turned on. So far i have the following:
Code:
If My.Computer.Network.Ping("192.68.0.5") Then
MsgBox("Computer is on.")
Else
MsgBox("Ping request timed out.")
End If
If i use ip addresses, this works fine but i would rather use hostnames due to the ip addresses being dynamic (something which is outside my control). Using the hostname, it reurns "Computer is on" if the ping is successful, but if the hostname cannot be found, instead on returning "Ping request timed out", an error occurs as follows:
A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.NetworkInformation.PingException' occurred in System.dll
I was thinking of making a program which creates a console in which it sends a ping to an domain, in this case "www.google.com". then read this into my vb application. Probably looking to read each line into a listbox, this way i can add a parser to only take the data i want.
View 3 RepliesI got a program I am working on. It does some calculations using quantity and price in such. Heres the calculation module.
Private Sub calculations()
If AdultsizeRadioButton1.Checked = True Then
adulttotaldecimal = quantityinteger * adultpricedecimal * hoursinteger
ElseIf ChildsizeRadioButton2.Checked = True Then
childtotaldecimal = quantityinteger * childpricedecimal * hoursinteger
[Code] .....
Ok, everything has worked when I display the information.... up until the accumprofitdecimal variable. When i display that value its NOT what it should be. For instance i'm putting in a quanity of 1 and an hour of 1 for an adult then for a child, the extended price comes out properly as $2.15 now the code accumprofitdecimal += extendedpricedecimal SHOULD add the extended price (2.15) to the accumulative total. but when i display the accum profit total it shows a number that makes zero sense... is accumprofitdecimal += extendedpricedecimal not correct code?
how to calculate the quantity of each item sold?
View 9 RepliesI have a project which is 98% complete. Its basically a Shop(till) interface. I have a form that has tabs the first being the main till, second shows a listview with everything in stock and the quantity of items in stock. Im stuck on one part of the program where when the form loads it checks the stock and if any of the items have a quantity less than 5 for example than it displays a message box to the user telling him/her to order new stock, but im not sure exactly how to do that.

My script so far is...
Value = Quantity / Packing
Value = Int(value + 0.8)
Quantity and Packing are variables and always needs to round up.
I'm working on a project for a client (he wanted it in VB.NET so I dont have a choice) and have hit a wall. I have a Product class, and a List(Of Product) that I'm using to store products in while a new order is being built. The problem I'm running into is updating the Quantity value of a product if it's found in the list (instead of adding the product again).

When I enter the quantity variable the script will not calculate. What am I missing ?
Public Class frmMovie
Private Property intQuantity As Integer
Private Sub txtName_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As [codee]....
I'm trying to change the font colour of a field in datalist when the quantity falls below 10...

Currently I have two tables in a Database (Temp, Main), currently I have four fields in Temp(ID, Qty, LastDate, AddRem), and Three in Main, (ID, Qty, LastDate). I have the program set up to enter in all the information minus AddRem into Temp, then my thought was to either tag the item to remove, or add to the Main table. I'm assuming this could be done by import then update, however every avenue I've attempted has been meet with Exception errors.For the add/remove field it is linked to a Combo Box, which brings me to my other question, how would you link a specific field to say hey if it's this option then add, and if's the other remove?
View 11 RepliesI am struggling to write the code for a calculation. The calculation I wish to do is to multiply the quantity of an item by the price. The problem is that the "form" i am creating uses a letter (i.e A, B, C etc) which corresponds to a set value. I do not know how to link the Letter to the corresponding value.
For Example, A= 25, B= 20, C=25
I want to calculate the total of 6 lots of A. I am also using a Combo Box to list the Letters.
I certainly hope I don't aggravate you with what is certainly a very simple code problem. I have never programmed before, but I do have a background in tech support, etc. I have an assignment to do and it's frustrating to wade through the information out there to find exactly what I need and nothing more.The assignment has 3 parts, one of which i've done. We are to do the same function in both javascript and VB. I was able to take a sample we did in class that caluclates a 10% discount and modify it so it calculates the total. Now, I have to modify that into a VB sln file. then write about the differences but that part will be cake.
I am working in Visual Studio 2008 - that program is new to me as well. When I created my login and it asked what VB I'm using, I did not know but under theu of VS, it says VB 2008.hat I attempted to do was to take the instructor's sample discount code and modify it for the new purpose, but an error was generated. This is the sample code I started with:
'Programmer: Dan Dougherty
'Date: Feb 2010
'
[code].....
Combine and Add the Quantity of same index in listview here's my Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If NumericUpDown1.Text = "" Then
MessageBox.Show("Please Input the Quantity!", "Sale", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation)
NumericUpDown1.Text = 1
End If

View 6 Repliesi am trying to enumerate all IPs on my local network, but i am not having any luck. The only thing i have came up with so far is a really tedius "get my own ip and scan the subnet with pings" which surely isn't the best way? I am really only trying to get the ip of a tivo box, and i can determine it's a tivo by mac address or name. My router lists the "computer name" of the tivos as a long string of numbers with the prefix "tivo".What about broadcasting a ping packet? I could also attempt to connect with telnet to port 31339 on every one of them.
View 8 RepliesI'm writing a media management tool and want to add support for MTP based devices.I've been reading through the SDK docs and with the help of some C# examples have managed to make a start on getting some VB code working.
I've come across a few anomolies that I hope someone can help me with!In the examples IPortableDeviceManager.GetDevice appears in C# to receive a string array. But in VB.NET it appears to only receive a string. I have a similar issue with IPortableDeviceManager.GetDeviceFriendlyName which according to the C# samples appears to receive a char array, whereas in VB.NET it is accepting a UShort.

View 3 RepliesAll I was able to figure out is a decleration for GetRawInputDeviceList which atm isn't working for me, I tried passing lots of different values in to get something to work, i've got outputs of -1, 0, and 1 from it but I use a mouse/keyboard & also have a controller hooked up...I also am not retrieving any information on what type of device(s) that might be hooked up/detected.The deceleration types & the like may be off but I translated from C++ code.
