Jul 23, 2009I have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

Use Of Option Strict And Option Infer
Feb 22, 20111. I have read that keeping Option strict on and Option infer off is good practice and will insure your code is tight and properly written. I would like input regarding this, pro's and con's from those who are in the know.
2. Having said that, I have set Option strict on and Option infer off in an existing program I wrote (that was working perfectly mind you) with them off and on respectively. I went through and cleaned up all the errors on the 'need AS' and casting of variables, but one is leaving me a bit put out.[code]
I have also read where using My.Computer.System.Directory.GetFiles() instead of System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() is probably not a good thing, but when I change to this I get no error, but also no dataI am thinking I should stay with the strict on and infer off but am really slogging through getting this code correct.Running Win7 on Dual Quad Core XEON Intel Extreme with 8Gb RAM.

Delay In Back To Back Messages Through Socket
May 10, 2012We have a server application and a client application that communicates with each other using socket.
When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.
We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.

Jun 17, 2011We are having problems with sending back to back emails on one of our web sites. The site is built with .net framework 2.0.We can send the first email without any problems on every try. But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem.One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

Jun 16, 2010I am making a software in VB .NET and I wanted to find out where a packet is directed i.e whats its destination IP .ctually what I am doing is kind of a relay.. means for example - A computer(192.168.1.2) wants to send a data to 192.168.1.10:80 but I make it send the data to my server computer i.e 192.168.1.5 which then sends the data to the destination machine which 192.168.1.10:80 .So basically I want to find out where the packet wants to reach(in this case 92.168.1.10:80) . The structure looks like --Client Computer -> Destination Computer [ In normal case ]But I want to do something like this :- Client Computer -> Server Computer -> Destination computerFor the Server computer to send the data to destination computer I guess I will have to know where the packet wants to reach or something

FileMovement Lock On Destination Folder?

We are using File.Move() method to move the file from source to destination locaion. But the destination location is being monitored by one tool, whenever we are moving files to the destination location, it will pick up the file and process it. The issue here when we try to move huge volume file like around 5GB file, the tool is immediately picking up the file and try to process it before the move operation is complete and send failure notice to all the users.. After again successfully moving the file completely, it picks up the same and process it sucessfully this time and send successful notice this time.
We can't have control over the tool which is monitoring the destination folder because it is a third party tool. However we want to find out the alternative option to place a lock over the destination foler like ReadWrite access till the move operation completes so that 3rd party will not be able to pick up or try to access that file.

Partially locked files fail to copy, and the destination gets deleted. Aug 31, 2010I have 3 components, a managed .NET diagnostics app, which interfaces with a C++ multithreaded UDP socket messaging DLL, which sends messages to another C++ app.
Sometimes (especially on exiting the managed app) the messages are not getting properly handled by the destination app. The UDP socket DLL is sending everything fine, but they are not being handled on the recieving end. Now, if I put a messagebox in on the managed side, everything goes fine. Thinking it was just a delay thing with the popup, I've put thread sleep, regular sleep, timers, counting loops, etc. These "other" solutions do nothing, only the message box is making the messages be handled.

If the user has requested a redirect back to the login (home) page, I don't want to log them out but I do want to hide the menu bar. Currently I am using whether the user is authenticated to control if the menu bar is visible or not.Basically, I want to always hide the menu bar when on the login page.The menu is rendered prior to the page itself so I need to be able to read the redirect request to see if the login page is the destination.

This works perfectly for ASPX files and their .vb code behinds. When we try to transfer .DLL files, they show up on the server as 0 bytes, and sometimes actually transfer. The problem is that, despite being the same size as the original, they act as if they are corrupt.
2008 - Error: StreamWriter Destination Unreachable
Mar 3, 2009I am using the Streamwriter to send simple messages to other machines in my office. But i hit across a problem today which i never thought about. If the computer im sending the message to, doesn't have the listener running, the sender crashes out. I have no compile errors, but when I run it, it throws an exception (System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException). I'm absolutely sure the destination existst (it's referencing the destination directory). I've tried doing it with system.io.file.copy(source,dest)and my.computer.filesystem.copyfile(source,dest). Same result either way.
