How can I disable letters from being typed into listbox?I know I can use maskedlistbox and easily select what can be put into it, but then if I use that can I set a limit to 2 units only?

For example the listbox contains the following items
1) Apple
2) Strawberry
3) Mango
If for example I type "Mongo" and then press tab to another field, a message will pop up saying I typed something not in the listbox. Anyone who knows how to code if text in textbox1 is not in listbox then blah blah blah.
My listbox will accept any letter I add, but I can't get it to accept any numbers. I tried a case select for 1-100 and I couldn't get that to work either,

View 11 RepliesI'm keeping track of some things that are numbered and others that are lettered; while NumericUpDown is perfect for selecting numbered things, I need an analogue for selecting lettered things. The obvious choice would be a listbox that just contains all the letters of the alphabet. But I need to show only the appropriate range of letters, so if I want to use a listbox, I need to write a function that populates the listbox with the first n letters of the alphabet; if n > 26, it should continue with aa, ab, and so on. How do I do this?

If I set a ListBox.Height = ListBox.PreferredHeight when the control is hidden and IntegralHeight = True, then set it visible:
a) Actual Height reduces by typically 3-5 pixels after redraw (but not 1 pixel per item).
b) PreferredHeight does not not appear to give the correct integral of item heights.
Is there a way to make ListBox calculate the correct integral Height before the ListBox is made visible, so it can be correctly pre-positioned from bottom edge?

Once in a while, I can't see what I have typed until I move to the next line. Same thing if I try to backspace, the cursor doesn't move until I leave the line. I can fix the problem by closing VS and restarting it.

I created a dataset in Visual Studio 2010 containing two tables: tblCategories and tblAnswers. tblCategories has two columns: CategoryNumber (AutoNumber and primary key) and CategoryName. tblAnswers has three columns: AnswerNumber (AutoNumber and primary key), Answer, and CategoryNumber. The CategoryNumber columns in each table are related. I have a command button which I want to use to add a record to the CategoryName column in tblCategories with the data typed in a textbox. When I try to access the dataset to add a new row(dataset.tblCategoriesDataTable.NewRow), the NewRow method isn't present. I've done some reading which suggests that I need a TableAdapter, but it seems like that is for connecting to an external file because I have to select a connection. I have no external SQL files or database. I want the user to be able to create a database within my program.
