View 2 RepliesI have created a client for the popular twitter social network. I am now wanting to add more features to the client, and one of those being a label displaying how many characters are left in the post (as the max is 140). This is what I want to do:
(Message Box Amount of Characters Typed) MINUS (140) = NUMBER(Display answer as label).
I cannot find how to display an error message when what I typed in the listbox field is not in the listbox collection.
For example the listbox contains the following items
1) Apple
2) Strawberry
3) Mango
If for example I type "Mongo" and then press tab to another field, a message will pop up saying I typed something not in the listbox. Anyone who knows how to code if text in textbox1 is not in listbox then blah blah blah.
I have an ASPX page (with VB Codebehind). I would like to extend the GridView class to show the header / footer when no rows are returned. I found a C# example online (link) (source). However, I cannot convert it to VB because it uses typed events (which are not legal in VB).

I have Visual Basics 2008 express and I tried to make a autotyper, so this is my
Button1: Timer1.Start

Timer2: SendKeys.Send(Textbox.text)
Button2: Timer2.Stop
So it was my first try ever with VB and it kind of worked... Only 2 problems;
1. Button 2 doesn't really work, I have to click it really many times, then go to a different window, then click it really many times again, in the meantime it keeps on spamming
2. How do I make my autotyper press enter every single time after the textbox message was typed?
I'm starting to learn ASP.NET MVC and since I work in a VB.NET shop I'm converting an example from C#. I'm trying to implement a strongly typed view and the example I'm looking at shows the following:

I have a fairly large project (Point of Sales) written in VB6. It has beenused successfully a 2 stores since 2001 (with updates of course).I would like to convert it to VB2008 (although I know about VB "fusion") just to keep it up to date and modernize it a bit.Since using the VB converter brings up such a lot of junk, I'm rewriting each module and form from scratch (although using as much of the original code as possible). View 14 Repliesim a student still learning and im stuck. im writing a program that returns the ip address, splits it in to parts, and now i need it to return a string of letters for other parts to use. EX.
ip address 127.0.0.1 will look like ABG.XXX.XXX.XXA
( i would like to set 0=X so it is easier to pick out the actual

I am able to split it and display each part and rewrite it to textboxes without the "." but i dont know where to begin to change the numbers to the letters i need.

I'm keeping track of some things that are numbered and others that are lettered; while NumericUpDown is perfect for selecting numbered things, I need an analogue for selecting lettered things. The obvious choice would be a listbox that just contains all the letters of the alphabet. But I need to show only the appropriate range of letters, so if I want to use a listbox, I need to write a function that populates the listbox with the first n letters of the alphabet; if n > 26, it should continue with aa, ab, and so on. How do I do this?

Assume a 2 column table with columns Age (int) and EmpName (string) A datatable can be converted to IEnumerable by a simple dbTable.AsEnumerable() Now to perform any Linq you must know the column names since intellisense will not pick it up due the fact that AsEnumerable has returned a bunch of datarows that you can enumerate. View 1 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2005 for coding. I am doing an exercise where I have to create a data lookup program. The program is to illustrate the concepts of using a database to look up information based on user input. The program allows a user to input two search criteria for a product search. The program then displays each individual search result, or record that meets the search criteria in a message box. I am not getting the message box and I don't know why. No errors are present during compiling so I have no indication as to where the problem is.

Once in a while, I can't see what I have typed until I move to the next line. Same thing if I try to backspace, the cursor doesn't move until I leave the line. I can fix the problem by closing VS and restarting it.

Is there anyone who knows how to set a field value to a value that I typed? I have an Xtragrid, binded to sql database and I wanna set the dateedited column to todays date when user changes any field on the grid . Since I'm using devexpress I can't just type columnname and set the text to the value I wanted.

I created a dataset in Visual Studio 2010 containing two tables: tblCategories and tblAnswers. tblCategories has two columns: CategoryNumber (AutoNumber and primary key) and CategoryName. tblAnswers has three columns: AnswerNumber (AutoNumber and primary key), Answer, and CategoryNumber. The CategoryNumber columns in each table are related. I have a command button which I want to use to add a record to the CategoryName column in tblCategories with the data typed in a textbox. When I try to access the dataset to add a new row(dataset.tblCategoriesDataTable.NewRow), the NewRow method isn't present. I've done some reading which suggests that I need a TableAdapter, but it seems like that is for connecting to an external file because I have to select a connection. I have no external SQL files or database. I want the user to be able to create a database within my program.
