I am trying to work on an application that disables the close button (X) on the upper right hand corner of a window. In order to do that I need to use calls to API methods like GetSystemMenu, EnableMenuItem and RemoveMenu. I can figure out how these methods work but there are certain parameters that these methods have whose values that need to be passed to them as argument is unknown to me. How can I know them.
E.G.- for EnableMenuItem, the parameters are- hMenu (handle to the menu), uIDEnableItem (The menu item to be enabled, disabled, or grayed), uEnable (This parameter must be a combination of at least two of the following:
MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_BYPOSITION
MF_ENABLED, MF_DISABLED, or MF_GRAYED)
Now when I call this method from my application I supply the current window handle as the first argument, the item no. to be disabled/enabled as the second argument but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TO SEND AS THE THIRD ARGUMENT. What exactly are the possible values for those parameters- MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_DISABLED. I checked certain examples where they are supplying hexadecimal values like &HF060, &H1, 0x400, 0x1000, 0x2 etc. or integer values like 1024, 2 etc. But how would I know what exactly these values are and when to use which value. The same problem arises in case of calling RemoveMenu method. If you know about any chart or tutorial that lists the values of these parameters

I have an application developed in VB.net with 3.5 framework. I have disabled close (X) button on the main form of the application while doing some processing. I have achieve disabling by "Overriding ReadOnly Property CreateParams()" of the form. This is working fine as both control button on form and close option on right click in the taskbar shows disabled. This fulfill my needs on the Windows XP OS but not on Windows 7 OS. As in Windows 7 right click on application icon in taskbar shows a different menu, which has a new "Close window" option.
The close in original menu still shows disabled (this old menu is hidden but can be shown by holding Shift key and right click on the application icon in taskbar). Now I need to disable this "Close window" option as well and only for my application.
Is there a method through which I can do this programmatically.

How to catch the event of the window close button(red X button on window right top corner) in wpf form ? We have got the closing event, window unloaded event also, but we want to show a pop up if he clicks the close button of the wpf form.
I have a form containing a date textbox and a submit button and a close window button. The date textbox onblur calls a javascript function which checks for date validation and some other logic and displays some alert messages. The date on the textbox is always selected and onfocus. My problem is when I try to click the close window button with/without changing the date the alert messages from the onblur logic are displaying and I am unable to close the window. I tried using onchange instead of onblur but onchange too works when a control looses focus. it works fine when I donot change the date but when I change the date and hit the close window button it too displays the alert messages and the window does not close. Please suggest me what will be my best option.

I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.
when I got home to try out the method in the above post in my real application things did not work out.The big difference is that my main form is a MDI. When I open my edit form, it's mdiparent is set to the main form. When I click 'edit' and then disable "me" the entire application goes modal.I was expecting only the MDI child to go disabled, not the whole application..Basically, I want only the MDI child window that opens it's "edit" dialog to go disabled..
Excuse me for posting this, but I have searched both Google along with this forum before asking this question, maybe I'm not using the right keywords but I apologize if it's easy to find.I would like to know how one could close a third-party window (application) if a specified string was found in the window title.
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?
Private Function StoreCouponCode() As String Dim con As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("DBConnectionString").ConnectionString)
[Code]....
When the user clicks on the CmdGetCoupon it takes some time to redirect..so the user clicks on the CmdGetCoupon more than once, which results in multiple coupon generation from a single user account.
I want to display a message "Please Wait While Your Coupon Is Being Generated" and disable the CmdGetCoupon so that the user cannot click multiple times
Private Sub btnStop_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStop.Click btnStop.Enabled = False 'Lengthy code procedure btnStop.Enabled = True End Sub
I've just notice that when I click on a button, and try to disable it in order to avoid the user clicking on it several times during process (or disable the entire form for that matter), the application somehow records the subsequent clicks and processes them after the button has been re-enabled. But that's not the behavior that I want at all. I just want to disable any user interaction with the button (or the form perhaps) until processing of the Button_Click event is completed. How can I do this?
im wondering if it is possible at all to bisable a button after it being clicked because i have no idea on where to start on doing this. I only know how to get it to disable for the one session but when the program is run again it is enabled again. Is there any way to just keep it disabled because it nly ever needs to be clicked once.
I have a split container in my vb program that has 2 buttons right on top of each other in container 1. In container 2 I have a datagridview. The buttons are to mark a row as a blanket order that is in the DGV, so I'm only wanting the button enabled if the user is in the DGV. I was using another way of doing this by using the backgroundcolors of the rows like this :
In the project I am doing at the moment I want to disable the Exit ( X ) buttons in the top right corner of all my forms. So I found out this code which Im using and is working fine:
Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property CreateParams() As CreateParams Get Dim cp As CreateParams = MyBase.CreateParams
I have 2 DatagridViewChecKboxColumn. What I want to happen is that a(Submit)button will be disabled until the checkbox2 will be checked. How will I do this if my checkboxes are DataGridViewCheckboxColumn? What loop will I do,because there's a possibility that I'll be checking the last checkbox?
I found this, but it's not working.
If (DataGridView1.Columns(e.ColumnIndex).Name = "Child") = True Then btnConso.Enabled = True ElseIf (DataGridView1.Columns(e.ColumnIndex).Name = "Child") = False Then
I need to disable a button after its pressed so the user does not have the ability to click it again as this would replicate the process in some cases. After alot of searching I found some tips - alot of code I found I could not understand. This is what I have come up with:
On page load: If Me.Page.IsPostBack Then 'lblDetails.Text = "disabled"
[code]....
I also read somewhere that I should use: System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1000) to delay the process or something - not entirely sure why I would do this though.Although, the problem with my above code is that when the code behind page performs validation checks, it exits sub before executing my INSERT SQL code - so when it does this it also disables the button.I am not entirely sure if the above method is fool proof or whether it is a **** piece of code that won't work 100% of the time.On another website I found a script to put on the actual HTML page with <script> tags:
I was looking for quick assistance with disabling the write button based on wrong user input. Program works great just feel like it needs a little more.

I don't like validating through the TextChanged event either as I believe that to be the cause of some issues. Doesn't the Textchanged event validate on each time a letter is typed?

But although this works, it does not execute my VB code in the code behind page so I am a little confused where to go here.
I am trying to find the handle of the child window for the Yes button in the User Account Control window so i can click it. This window has a structure with a few child windows with the same name.
Dim hwnd As IntPtr = FindWindow(Nothing, "User Account Control") Dim hwnd2 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd, 0, "DirectUIHWND", vbNullString) Dim hwnd3 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd2, 0, "CtrlNotifySink", vbNullString) Dim hwnd4 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd3, 0, "Button", "&Yes")
There are multiple CtrNotifySink with its own Button child window or other child windows. How do i search thru the different CtrNotifySink window to find the one that contain the Yes button so i can send a click to it? I do need to find it before i can send a click, right? because i try just sending it to the main window with sendmessage and nothing happen.I even try sending it directly to the handle found by spy++ of the yes button with bm click but nothing happen?
