Nov 8, 2009Basically I want to know how to access a particular website from my application. I have used System.Net Namespace to request HTML from a website, It returns a complete HTML code which is used by Browsers to render the content on the screen but what i want is to interact with the website only without the use of a browser. I currently dont know how to do that.
I have a application which displays a Image when a user enters a keyword, lets say user enters a word "Envelope", the application will go to Google Images and search for this keyword. Now google returns images as results, the application now needs to download the first result ( which is a image) and display it on a form ). Everything here is done without a browser but via my application.

Nov 29, 2009I use Visual Basic.net to create a program that connects to several websites, logins, then post some data. I can't use the httpwebrequest, some java is required on those sites, so i use the webbrowser control.Now I created a form, some fields for input data and a submit button. The coding part is like this:

The problem is that I can't control what happens after submit button is clicked. I need to pause or stop the process at any time. If I exit the program while processing, I can see that even if the window disappear, the program is still running!I tried to use a thread for this, but the subs only get called if I use begininvoke, or invoke on a starter thread.

Nov 29, 2009I use the webbrowser control to navigate to certain websites and login and retrieve some data. For that I created a sub for each website. On the form i have a button that calls every sub when clicked. The problem is that I don't know how to pause or stop the process once started. If I quit the program it will still run in the background until all calls complete. I tried to use a thread, but that doesn't go well with the webbrowser control.

Jul 2, 2010I'm using interop.msxml2.dll to open XML and txt files off an Internet server. The response that is received from the server is stored in my application's variables. I've recently noticed that the application doesn't always update the information when it goes to download a file that it has already downloaded in the past. For example, if it downloaded a file off the server when it started up, then when it attempted to download the new, changed file 5 minutes later, it would still return the same value as the first one. Even after closing the application, it would still return the incorrect, older value. How to stop this "caching" of data, and only allow the program to download the latest file off the server.

Jul 20, 2010I can't seem to figure this out. Below is some HTML on a webpage after I've logged in. The HTML is generated by javascript, and not sure how to do the same thing they do.On the site I simply click the "Georgia KMA" cell in the table that pops up, then click "OK" button at bottom.I've gotten the login done, now I'm stuck, can't get a "Click" to occur in the cell. I've got the javascript up and can't identify for sure what handling the click input.What I'm doing is writing vbscript to automate a file download.I don't have access to modify the site in any way.I have verified by using a msgbox that the DIV item 107 is the correct item for what I want. with this code it doesn't highlight the cell so when I click OK it doesn't do anything but tell me to select one of the listed items.

Mar 3, 2012I'm just getting started with Visual Studio (2005), and my aim is to write a fairly simple application in Visual Basic that will need to store some data to disk.What I really want is to be able to send the application to the end users (xp, vista, win7) and have them just be able to use it without having down download all kinds of extras. For example I'm guessing that if I use an SQL database in my application they will need to download SQl server express or some other sql downloadable?
If so is there a similar downloadable for MS Access?I'm just in the 'seeing how things work' stage at the moment and I don't want to waste time going down the SQL track just to find it won't actually work unless my users all download SQL to their machines (which they won't want to do).

The problem is that this reads all of the HTML tags as well. Ideally what I want to do is get rid of all of the unnecessary information such as ads and table headers, but want to preserve all of the data so that I can update my DBs with the click on a button. Is this possible? I have heard I may need to use Regular Expressions, but am confused how they'd work in my problem.
