Error: Cannot Create A File When That File Already Exists?
Sep 5, 2011
Public Class Form2 Private Sub TextBox1_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.Click
OpenFileDialog1.FileName = Nothing
OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog()
If Not OpenFileDialog1.FileName = Nothing Then
TextBox1.Text = OpenFileDialog1.FileName
Here's my code: System.IO.File.Move(Form6.OpenFileDialog1.FileName, "Temp") I'm trying to make it so that the program copies the file that you select in the OpenFileDialog and moves it into the "Temp" folder. It gives me an error saying: Cannot create file when file already exists.
I want to create a text file or see if a text file exists when application starts. The problem I was having was after creating the text file, I tried to write to text file and got an error saying that another process was using it.
Dim test As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & " est1.txt" If System.IO.File.Exists(test) Then MsgBox("File Loaded") Else
[code]....
I looked up topics on filestream, but am unsure if this is how to use it. Is my code ok? Is there another way to create a text file?
git this login form, streamreader looks for a matching user name and password and everything seem to be ok until i run it. I'm getting this ERROR: "veryfy that the file exists in specyfic location" this is code:
Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I've one VB.net 1.1 based windows app. I recently added the app.config files. In code it works fine. But, when I compile the application, VS 2003 doesn't generate the appname.exe.config.(I read on google) I manually copied the app.config file to the Release folder. But the code is giving error that the file doesn't exists.
I'm trying to create a "File Not Found" error to display if a file the program is looking for is not created.Example:
Dim ProcessProperties As New ProcessStartInfo ProcessProperties.FileName = "filename" ProcessProperties.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden[code].....
I also need help creating a text box, that will submit information to another source (like echoing to a command prompt window). I'm trying to add a killtask option where the user can enter the name of the tast (such as notepad.exe) and press 'Submit'. The button will then send a code (killtask -f notepad.exe) to a command prompt window.
I'm creating a program that will sort files by their file extension and it will put them into a folder called *FILEEXTENSION* (for example, for .psd files.. they're moved to PSD folder)
I have done the move function already but I don't know how to make it rename when it exist.
log file for my apllication?...actually i'm doing console application where it will pull the data from database and insert to another database...i need to have log etheir it working or error.
I do one project in visual basic 2010.In visual basic 6 project can be make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file using Package and deployment wizard.But in visual basic 2010 express edition does not have Package and deployment wizard.how to make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file in visual basic 2010 project?
I am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.
I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.
In summary I am looking to create, read/write and append log files and populate controls with the data in varous sections of the log file. Example:
I have some problem with copying the file from one Directory to another directory by create the folder if that folder is not exists in destination directory.
I'm trying to upload a file via FTP from my local computer to an FTP server, which is also on my local computer at the moment. I've got this sub I'm calling:
Public Sub UploadFTPFile(ByVal ftpservername, ByVal fullfilepath, ByVal filename, ByVal username, ByVal password)Dim clsRequest As System.Net.FtpWebRequest = _ DirectCast(System.Net.WebRequest.Create("ftp://" & ftpservername & "/" & filename), System.Net.FtpWebRequest) clsRequest.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(username, password) clsRequest.Method = System.Net.WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile
[Code]...
I'm running an FTP Server using Golder FTP Server, which is freeware. I think it's setup correctly because connecting to the FTP Server using the exact same string as above using Windows Explorer works great.
Im trying to write to a file I created and place "Unregistered" in it. Thought it would be a simple task but keep getting an error. Its happening when I try and open the file to write. This is the error: Access to the path 'G:\Projects\Project\pbss\bin\Debug\5\pbssv\Data.DB' is denied.
Ive tried adding the file attributes to read-write and still get the same. Most of the code ive looked at via a google search points to the same as ive got for the Added default value area. Im not sure if there is a conflict between the 2 different ways im accessing the file when creating and writing too? [Code]
I am trying to write(what I thought would be a simple piece of code. I was wrong.
What I am trying to do is to get an application to check if a file exists, However, I have it wrong as the file obviously does exists, but when I run the application it tells me it does not.
Imports System.IO Public Class check Dim checkfile As New FileInfo("C:\HelloWorld")
im trying to make code to check if a file with the same name exists twice in the same dir one with .dds and one with .veh file extentions and if they do put in a listbox but if only one exists then it puts it in another listbox i have made code to filter .dds in to one listbox and .veh in another but i dont know how to make the "check" if they are both there
this is the code i have to split them at the mo
For Each files In dir Dim path() As String = files.Split("\") Dim chunk As Integer = path.Length
[Code]....
but i wanted the Else for the .dds files that dont have the matching .veh file
OK, hi. what i'm trying to do is ultimately detect wheather a word doc exists. I don't want to open it.hat it's going to do is detect if the file exists.
I'm using the coding below to determin if a certain file exists on the hdd. However there is an error on this line: If FileExists("C:myfile.txt"))="False" then msgbox "False"
it gives me the following error message:End of statement expected.
Have only just started trying Visual Basic after using Delphi almost ever since it first came out. How on earth do I see if a file exists? - simple terms please
If Dir("C:Test.txt") <> "" Then TextBox1.Text = "File exists" Else TextBox1.Text = "File does not exist" End If However, I'd like to use this alongside a DataGridView.
Basically, when the application runs, the user selects a folder for file storage. Then, in the DataGridView, the contents in each cell of Column 1 become the file name. In short, the contents of a cell, plus the selected folder for file storage, becomes a whole file path.I need to use the above code to get my application to check if the file exists, and if it does, it should place the text "File Exists" in column 2 of the DGV.
I can't work out a way for the DGV to be "continually aware" if files have been created and so to update automatically without the user having to press buttons etc. As soon as the file exists, the correct text should be placed in Column2.
In my vb.net winform application, I am moving the file (ex: sample.xls from one folder to another. If file already exists with the same name, the new file name should be incremented (ex:sample(1).xls). How can i acheive this?
I have a method which tests for the existence of a file prior to carrying out some manipulation of file content as follows:
[Code]...
The idea is that if the file does not exist, then the file is generated by calls to the NLog logger instance, at which point the file is created and the specified header info is inserted. The method works fine from the application itself, however I have a simple NUnit test which implements a test method to verify that the file is created and populated as expected. When I step through with the debugger, I find that '_logPath' is set to:
D:Documents and SettingsTE602510Local SettingsTemp unit20ShadowCopyCache4288_634286300896838506Tests_-1937845265assemblydl37cdfe61aaa18c98d_f0a1cb01logs2010-12-22.log
Unfortunately, despite the fact that the file DOES exist, the call to File.Exists returns false. From earlier viewing of the config path the above path would appear to be correct for these NUnit tests. Does anybody have a clue what is happening here and what I need to do to get the desired result? The pathname to the log file as per the XP file system is:D:Documents and SettingsTE602510My Documents_VSSWorkAreaPsalertsIpTestsinDebuglogs
What I want my code to do is to check to see if a text file exists, and if it doesn't, it'll create one and write to it, but if it does then I want it to make the contents my label's text.
Here's my code:
Imports System.IO Public Class Main Private Sub Main_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I haven't used System.IO before, and I'm a little stuck.I need to check if a file exists, for example C:Documents and SettingsverraineDesktopSURNAME Firstname v1.docx, if this file exists the filename has to become v2, and so on. Usually there will only be a v1, but in the case that a clients position changes we have to be able to save the new version without overwriting the old one.
How would I be able to do this efficiently? I'm uncertain to say the least. Because, if I manage to find out how to save the file as a different number, that's alright, but if that next number exists as well? I can only think of ways to do this that require a lot of code.
