App.config Based Windows App - Code Is Giving Error That The File Doesn't Exists?

Nov 30, 2009

I've one VB.net 1.1 based windows app. I recently added the app.config files. In code it works fine. But, when I compile the application, VS 2003 doesn't generate the appname.exe.config.(I read on google) I manually copied the app.config file to the Release folder. But the code is giving error that the file doesn't exists.

Copy The Database File By Giving The Reference Of The Config.Appsettings?

Apr 21, 2011

I have built a functionality where I want to back up the database - [Access]. Currently, its working but the user has to specify the file. I used a FileOpenDialog Box to get the file, saved it in a textbox and copied it to another directory. That works good. What I want now is the user doesnt have to know the lcoation of the Database. So, I just want to copy the Database File using the Configuration.Appsettings. He can specify the directory the file needs to be copied to. The Access DB is referenced as follows:

<connectionStrings>
<add name="TestCMS.My.MySettings.CMSConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|CMS.mdb"
providerName="System.Data.OleDb" />
</connectionStrings>

Windows Service Giving Error ContextSwitchDeadlock?

Jan 21, 2011

I've developed a windows service that connects to a database and executes a Stored Procedure when running in debug mode I get the following message: "ContextSwitchDeadlock was detectedMessage: The CLR has been unable to transition from COM context 0x1ffc20 to COM context 0x1ffd90 for 60 seconds. The thread that owns the destinationcontext/apartment is most likely either doing a non pumping wait or processing a very long running operation without pumping Windows messages. This situation generally has a negative performance impact and may even lead to the application becoming non responsive or memory usage accumulating continually over time. To avoid this problem, all single threaded apartment (STA) threads should use pumping wait primitives (such as CoWaitForMultipleHandles) and routinely pump messages during long running operations."

WPF Starting Animation From Code Giving Error

Mar 24, 2009

I'm trying to trigger an animation declared in the window's XAML file from the window's vb code when an event is raised (calling a function), like a window's "loaded" event.

Here's how I declare the animation (as a storyboard):

Dim StartAnimation As Storyboard = DirectCast(FindName("ServiceOn"), Storyboard)
Dim StopAnimation As Storyboard = DirectCast(FindName("ServiceOff"), Storyboard)

And here's the code for the function that is failing:

Asp.net Mvc - For Each Loop LINQ Insert Giving Cannot Add An Entity That Already Exists?

Mar 11, 2010

I have the following code, that in my head should create a new row in a table:

Dim fin As Boolean
Dim db2 As New ChecklistModeldbmlDataContext
For Each a In bServers

If collection("fin" & a.ServerName) = "true, false" Or collection("fin" & a.ServerName) = "true,false" Then

[Code]...

It only ever adds one record in to the table and then errors with Cannot add an entity that already exists.

Now it should enter 4 rows into the table, but I can't work out why the above gives me that error.

I've also tried having the db2.SubmitChanges() outside of the for each and it just inserts the last row.

Does Windows Service Need To Be Rebuild After Changing Config File

Aug 1, 2010

I changed config file of the windows many times. Before changing config file I stopped the service and after changing config file, started again. Every thing worked fine.

But last time when I made some changes in config file of the windows service and started it - It didnt worked, I even tried reinstalling the service but in vain.

As a last resort I rebuild the service with new config file and copied newly build files on the server and installed the service. To my surprise the Windows service worked perfectly this time.But I have only made changes to config file and the code of the windows service was untouched. My question is, do we need to rebuild the Window service if we change the config file many time?

Debugger Giving Error "Cannot Access A Closed File."?

Dec 19, 2009

I have some programming background in VB4,VB6, and some assembler, also I was a very big fan on of Qbasic.Programed 100's PIC micro in assembler and basic.
I know this list of experience will put a big smile of many readers face, that's what I have.Trying to learn VB2008 Express, I find everything I know is out of the window, nothing works the way it used to be.Cant find solution for the simplest task, like read/write a file in binary, read/write serial port.I have some e-books to read, all talks about thinks are actualy works and I could figure out myself or other case I cant get around what era they talking about.I'm cursing right now, ho would you teach a old dog for new trick's.English is my second language, not always understand all the terms and other lings what books and online sources use.I have not wrote any code for Windows for at least 5-6 years, but did wrote may program for Micro controllers in Assembler and Basic.

For example I found this code to demonstrate how to create a file, write in binary then read it back.It does not work, cant figure it out why, help is useless, stops at "fs.Position = 0", the function of this line make sense, but why errors out here.Debugger give me "Cannot access a closed file.", I don't see any line closing the file, is everything will be this difficult.Not to mention this is pose to be a working example from a book.This is the way I used to open a file.[code]...

.net 1.1 - Start-up Window Changes Based On App.config Setting - Changing ?

Feb 24, 2009

I have this VB.Net 1.1 project that I have to make some changes to. There is a flag in the App.config file. If it is false, the page just loads a splash screen and runs the program normally. If it is true it first opens a login window. VB.Net is not something I've ever worked with before. I can't for the life of me figure out where the logic for the picking the startup object is. In the property pages, Main.vb is always set as the startup object, but that's not even the window that loads up when the flag is false, it always comes after the splash screen.
