Error Message "5:Object Is Currently In Use Elsewhere." When Drawing Polygon
Jun 22, 2010
I am developing the map tool application in vb.net where user can create maps. I gave the check boxes for show/hide the layers of map like village boundary(polygon), plot boundary(Polygon), roads(Lines), bore wells(points), dug wells(points), schools(points).
I am using the function RedrawMap for displaying various layers of maps as user checked the check boxes. If user click village boundary map shows the village boundary etc on panel control named "picMap".
The problem i am facing is when user check the village boundary layer map shows the boundary but when user check the next polygon layer i.e. plot boundary layer it gives the error message "5:Object is currently in use elsewhere.".
My code is as follows:
Public Sub RedrawMap(ByVal index As Integer)
Dim f As Font
'Object Style
Dim Size1 As Short
[code]....

I'm trying to write a simple game ui, it is grid/tile based, and i have the grid built using grid column and row definitions and I'm successfully placing objects in various grid locations. I am currently stuck as trying to build the player object. I want a single object reference to represent the various components of the players piece.
Currently I am using a polygon to represent the piece on the grid. Eventually I want to replace this with images or something. I want to add in properties for what weapon and armor it has equipped I want properties for health
Essentially in code i want something like this
dim player1 as new playerobject
player1.polygon.points = 0,0 60,30 0,60
player1.health = 100
[Code]....
I can instantiate all this as separate variables etc, but I'd like to have a singular reference that contains all the variables, properties, objects, controls etc.
I'm using vb .net in vs 2010 (and no, I'm not looking to write in something else)

I updated from VB2010 Express and Win7(x64) from VB2008 Standard and Win7(x86) and have been tweaking a programme and some user controls I have been using for some years. In the last three days only whenever I open the programme and run it, I get the error message box "Object Reference not set to an insatnce of an object"" three or four times. The programme then runs correctly. If I stop and restart the programme, the error message not reappear. If I then edit code and rerun (or save) the programme, the error message reappears. The error messages do not appear if I run the programme from the EXE file pinned to my taskbar
I have been unable to trap the error message to find out on the stack a clue to the line in the programme that is causing the problem. I do not add controls at runtime and all have been added to the designer at design time.

We have a huge windows application with poor exception handling. The application throw object reference error from lot of places and the system error message is showing to users as it is using message boxes.
I am looking for a simple solution which can be used to replace this message to something user friendly for the entire application

I have been trying to draw spirals in vb.net. Here's a link to the formula [URL]. here's what I was trying to do. The code below is just drawing points which I was later going to edit to connect from point to point as soon as i got the spiral function working.
Function Draw()
Dim iImageCenterPointH As Integer = pbOut.Height / 2
Dim iImageCenterPointW As Integer = pbOut.Width / 2
Dim iCircleSpace As Integer = 10

I am not 100% the output is matching the formula here's what I am getting atm ...

I need to make a basic drawing program in VB that can do three things:
"Draw" with a brush of some sort
Clear the screen
Perform a flood-fill (paintbucket action)
I decided to do the first two tasks first, and got them to work, but the third task completely eludes me. Every way I try seems to pile on exceptions, and every flood-fill algorithm I find seems to require a bitmap, rather than a Graphics() object. Is there any way to accomplish a flood-fill using a Graphics object, or must I restart the project using a bitmap?
Source code for reference:

This little experiment was a test prompted by a previous thread to learn to work in a graphics object, then paint everything later to a picturebox (later, will be looking at building own custom control for the display), and save out the bitmap to a file on the HD.But weird things happen here. Nothing will display in the picturebox, and the saved bitmap is just a black box.The only partial success I had was replacing: e.Graphics.DrawImage(MyBitmap, 0, 0)
with,
PictureBox1.image = MyBitmap
inside the paint event handler, but that caused infinite recursion of the paint event. But at least I could see parts of the graphic for a fraction of a second before it was wiped clean, every time I clicked the "Go_cmd" button. But what is weird is that this partial success showed that the graphics object was copying successfully over to the bitmap image (because I could briefly see parts of it in the picturebox, but the saved file would still come out black, even though it was based on the same bitmap!The code is as follows.Above the form1 class
Imports System.Drawing.Imaging
The single declaration:
Public MyBitmap As Bitmap
The form_load procedure:[ code].....
The code in the version shown above would not even show a brief moment of the graphics in the picturebox, and the saved .bmp file is just a filled black box.

#1 is C# Class Library, where I have my EF model defined (3.5 sp1) and some public methods.#2 is a VB winforms app.In the winforms app, I have referenced the C# library and added the connection string for the EF model. The problem I am having is that I have a form where the user selected a .txt file to import. On the VB side, I create a byte() from the file, then pass it to a public method cleverly called Process. In Process(), everything runs smoothly until I instantiate the EF model.
using (WorkersCompImportEntities context = new WorkersCompImportEntities()) { ....

I am working on a snake game for my portfolio and was wondering where the best place to put the logic for drawing the snake. Should the code reside within the snake object or within the form? Either would work, but I am wondering from a business objects/coding standard perspective where such code belongs.

I know it's possible in asp.net to create a custom error page in a web app, by putting the following line in the web.config: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="frmErrorPage.aspx" />
I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?

I have made a program that lets you select an area of a picture and then crop it, I am having problems while drawing the rectangle that shows which area will be cropped, following is my code.
[CODE].............
This is declaration of all the variables that I am using.
[CODE].............
Over here I send the graphics handle of the "canvas" control (which is just a picturebox) to a higher level, so I can use it later.
[CODE].............
Over here I get the starting position for my rectangle
[CODE].............
This part is supposed to draw the rectangle, as I am moving the mouse over the Canvas control, but I get an error where the rectangle is being drawn, I originally thought that the problem might have been with the fact that as soon as I begin moving the mouse, the CropWidth and CropHeight variables are at zero, and that is causing the invalid input error. So I made it that it would not draw the rectangle until it reached a minimum size of 4 x 4 pixels but it still does not fix the error, I debugged to see if there was a problem with the values of the variables, but they all seemed fine, I even tries doing this CanvasGraphics.DrawRectangle(Pens.Red, 20, 20, 20, 20) so as to eliminate the factor of the wrong values, but still the same error.
