I'm just trying to have my "exit" option in my menu strip remind the user to save their settings...If they haven't, the click "no" and save their stuff, and then exit. I can't get the form to close if I hit "yes."

I have coded my application to run at startup now this is done by clicking the "run at startup" submenu from the menu strip I'm using when it's click the submenu auto checks and adds a key in the registry to make the form load at startup now I want to make the form "remember" the checked state of the menu even after form restarts I read somewhere that I can do that with the my.settings code

I am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option.Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog.Here is the code I have so far

I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.
I am totally new to VB and I'd like to know, for example, when a user clicks on "Print" in the menu strip on the keyboard should automatically press "Ctrl+P", because the original print dialog, and the WebBorwser print dialog is toootaly different.

So whats happening is that it opens the dialog ok, saves the document to my chosen location correctly, but opens a new document and gives the new document my chosen file name and leaves my saved document with the file name New Document.But when I close all the open screens and then re-open my saved document its all as it should be.

I add a button to a form each time the user clicks a menu option as:

This draws a small blue line at the bottom of the button to show it is highlighted. Just like the mouseoverbackcolor property on a button except this will draw the line. It works fine until you slide the mouse very fast between the buttons. It is as if the mouseleave event doesnt always fire.

View 4 RepliesI have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to create a wpf program that allows the user to create custom shapes or pick premade shapes and that after making their selection, a canvas shows their shapes randomly sized, positioned, colored and copied in multiples. I am hoping that on click, the program will put its output on a time interval and that the user can click stop when they are satisfied with how everything looks. My issue is, I would like to also give the user an option to save their created artwork as a jpeg file. Also if I wanted to link this file to a web browser what will I have to do?

I'm trying to save a collection of key/value settings in my application's "user settings" (they're column widths), but while I see no errors, when I run the code (in the IDE) my collection in "My.Settings" is always nothing at startup. I do a "My.Settings.Save" when the application exits, and barring the "serializers not found" errors in the IDE, no other errors occur. When I run my application as an exe, it behaves the same way..

How to allow the user to save their prefered settings in VB during runtime?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to create an app to launch at start up that will ask you what applications you want launching, or if you want all your favorite app's to start up etc. But before I go any further, I think its crucial to know how to save settings that a user has entered (such as program location and name in this case) so that he/she doesn't have to enter them every time at start up.
So far I have just made this, can anyone tell me how I would get it to save the settings entered?

For an application I am building, I need to have the user specify button labels and be able to click on them to play a sound they specify. I would like them to be able to specify the number of buttons, the label for the buttons, and the sound file to be played. I would then like the user to be able to save those settings. How do I go about doing this? Also, how do I get the file they've opened's name to show up in the title bar of the app?

I am using a split container with docking set to full below the menu but several other programs are set that way without any problems.

View 3 RepliesI added a menu strip to my form. I have added mulitple items to it and it shows up fine when I'm editing it. When I run the program, it does not show up. I tried starting over and redoing the whole project but I'm having the same problem.
