I am pulling two fields and putting them together with a "-". When I export to excel it seems to think that the string is a date and converts it from 11-11 to 11-Nov. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this.I am exporting a gridview into excel. This asp.net using .net 3.5 and vb.net within VS 2008.

View 2 RepliesI'm using date in the format dd-mm-yyyy and I need to convert a string inthis format to a date type.My string is "18-01-2010" but when I do the conversion using dim TargetDate as date=CDate(TgDstr).where TgDstr is "18-01-2010", the resutant TargetDate, as note in the debugger window, is #1/18/2010# rather than #18/1/2010# which I expected.What change in code should I made to get the desired result?
(P.s. I've checked the current culture with the following line of code:

View 6 RepliesThe user will select an entry in a gridview, which then redirects them to a form that is populated with the data from the selected row (thus making the gridview editable in a more user friendly way). Null values are accepted by the DB and I would like to show null date values as blank (or " ") in the corresponding text boxes. Instead I get the error:
Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Date' is not valid.

I have been unable to correctly convert a string to date. The string is read from a text file and placed into a string, below is a snippet of how the text file is read until the date is field is read:

I have then tried loads of different ways to convert it to a Date so when I then write it to a SQL Database it enters as a date. The string read from the text file is in the format of 13122011. If I don't try to change it to a Date before writing to SQL it doesn't recognise it as a date and sets the field to 01/01/1900. I have tried and searched loads online and everything i try should work but doesn't.

All of the above cause my program to drop out / crash at the point of the converting.
I have also tried to format the string to insert the '/' before converting:

Is there an Excel text file format (XlFileFormat) to export that will not put quotation marks around strings? I've tried xlTextWindows. Maybe there is an additional setting I'm missing? Most of the time, the datasets I'm exporting are in CSV, but I have a situation where I still want to export with an Excel type (long story) but really it is just a small blob of text. Otherwise, I'd just export to a text file; trying to avoid that for this one case.

When using INSERT INTO statement to SQL 2008 R2 to a column with data type as date and the data I am taking from a DateTimePicker control with date format as short. When my system date format short set to dd/MMM/yyyy the INSERT INTO statement is working perfectly but when the system date format short set to dd/MM/yyyy I am getting the above error.I tried by changing the control format to custom and dd/MMM/yyyy but still the same error is coming.I am using VB2010 and SQLExpress 2008 R2 SP1?

here is an sql query statement i run in vb.net. i keep getting the error of "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string." whenever i try to execute this. the datatype of filing_date and approvale_date is "text" but the deyt variable is originally Date, converted to string: (Date.Today).ToString, like so. nulll is simply a variable with vbNullChar as its value.

I have an asp:table which I want to exported to excel. One of my fields are alpha numeric and when exported to excel the leading 0s are stripped off. After going through this thread: Validation (CSS 2.0): 'mso-number-format' is not a known CSS property name I would like to use the css method "mso-number-format:@;.But the css is not exported to excel. I just tried to test it with simpler css things like bold font etc but its not getting carried over. I can see that if I surround my asp:Label with tags this change gets carried over to the excel but not the css bold . Other solutions in other thread does not work for me as ="00111" shows up as desired in excel but in the web form it shows up as ="00111" which is not what i want.

This means I'll be able to compare the dates in a listbox using the for each function, to the current date and see whever it has passed and therfore the alarm should be deleted. It is currently in a string form so I can't use < and > to compare it to the current date as that is in a date form. I've tried using CDate but it doesn't work as it only will convert these formats:

So if the number is 91, then that means April 1st (non-leap year) and if it's 304 then that means October 31st (also non-leap year). In VBA I was using the Day and Month functions to help me get an output to make it mm/dd format.

I am attempting to import data in a batch from an Excel Worksheet to a Sql Server database. Everything works except for the one date field in the spreadsheet. The date returned is off by four years from the value in the spreadsheet. Example: The Excel sheet has a date 10/24/2010 14:18, but when I look at the column in my query, the date is 10/23/2006 2:18. This pattern, 4 years and 1 day earlier, is repeated for every row in the worksheet.
The Excel column comes to me as a custom type, formatted m/d/yyyy h:mm. I receive this from an outside vendor and having them change the column is not going to be my simplest solution.
For what it's worth, the relevent part of the query is:
