I downloaded Vb express 2008 from Microsoft site. I am using WindowsXP The download was completed and when the setup starts the progressbar of .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 stops in half way and it is just stuck up with no further movement ahead even after 30 or 40 minutes time. I tried it several times but it just stucks up in half way.Because there are 5 or 6 components of vb express 2008 download and it installs only first component and when it reaches the second component of .Net Framework SP1 the progressbar just helds up in the half way.

View 3 RepliesI'm currently doing a project that includes access 2010 My question will be what driver can I use for an access 2010 *.accdb type file? For a *.mdb it works perfectly well with
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
But, when I changed the mbd to accdb:
ConnString ="Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.accdb)};Dbq=" & Application.StartupPath & "\CITSDB.accdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=123;"
It resulted in errors:
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'.
ERROR[IM006][Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]SQLSetConnetAttr failed
ERROR[HY000][Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Could not find file '(unknown)'
And then it shows me that my code for
If dsLogin.Tables(0).Rows.Count = 1 Then
IndexOutOfRangeException was unhandled
Cannot find table 0
I knew it must be the driver but I don't know what accdb driver I can use for the connstring.

But when I package the app the directory is going to change to C:Program FilesApp Name by default. The problem arises if the user decides to create an alternate directory. View 4 RepliesI am currently using the code below within a VB.Net application to find specific text in a Word document. The text is surrounded by symbols represented by the character codes in the .Text statement. The code below is working fine. The issue now is that sometimes the desired text within a document has been marked for deletion and appears as tracked change within the document. I would like to find only the desired text that has NOT been marked for deletion. Does anyone know of a way to determine if the found text is a deletion?

I already try this:

Iam changing the installation directory because when the application is installed in program files, my database can't add and edit record. having an error something like "operation must need an updateable query" because of that error i tried to install the appl in documents and there n error i'd encountered like when I install it to the program files folder.
I need help changing the default installation directory for a deployment package installer. The application's default directory is currently: [ProgramFiles][Manufacturer][ProductName].
What would I change this to, so that I can install the software directly on the root drive; Such as 'C:ManufacturerProductName'?
So I have this error.

View 7 RepliesIs it possible to manually download the Microsoft Framework 3.5 or 4.0 ? That would be useful in order to have it during installation of a program . I know that when installing a VB .NET program , it asks to connect and download it , if the PC does not have it already . The problem is that some people have a very slow connection speed or don't even have any connection . Therefore it would be useful to have that installation kit in order to supply it along with program itself .
View 5 RepliesI have a question to ask you. All of the programs that I made always worked perfectly in my PC. But, whenever I test it on another PC, it requires a thing like... Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4. Which is really annoying, cuz that thing installs in 15 minutes. I mean, can I do something about this? Is this common?
View 4 RepliesI've written an application [Visual Studio 2005 / VB) that works fine when I build it on my Win 7 PC.But when I try to install it XP as a test it falls over imediately on a 'file.exists' call made to establish if the data file exists or not (and if not then create it).
But it raises an exception because it can't find the directory that the file is supposed to be in. For the files location I was using Application.ExecutablePath but on the XP machine it is some weird directory like

is this even necessary in VS2010 & .NET 4.0? I've been trying to take advantage of the new Windows 7 taskbar interfaces like the Jump List. The MSDN documentation/tutorial instructs me to include a System.Windows.Shell, but apparently Shell isn't a member of System.Windows. I downloaded the API code pack, but I am unsure of what to do with it. The instructions say to open the main solution file and build it:QuoteTo build the library (except the DirectX related features) in Visual Studio 2008, please extract the contents of the WindowsAPICodePack.zip file in a new folder and build the included WindowsAPICodePack.sln file. And so I did that, but that is the extent of the instructions. I thought maybe it was a Visual Studio extension, so I tried accessing Shell again to no avail. Do I need to add each of the respective namespaces' projects to the target solution to use the API Code pack?
View 6 RepliesIt might be funny , but I'll ask anyway : is it allowed to create a program with VS2008 while at the same time it will use the Microsoft framework 4.0 ? I am asking because I use VS2008 while at the same time I have the impression that framework 4.0 is "lighter" than 3.5 .
View 7 RepliesI am creating a Visual Basic 2008 .net application that will be using the Sync Service for ADO.NET on Windows 7 Ultimate. The back end database is SQL 2008. Below are the basic steps I take when the error occurs
a. Add a Local Database Cache item to my application
b. Use the Configure Data Synchronication wizard for the setup process
c. Click the OK button to accept changes
d. An error message is generated, "The given key was not present in the dictionary".
I have attempted this several times and the error message presists no matter how I vary the options. I have also installed Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 successfully but the error persists. I also have all the following Dlls referenced in my project:
Microsoft.Synchronization.dll,
Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.dll,
Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.Server.dll,
Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SqlServer.dll,
Microsoft.Synchronization.Data.SqlServerCe.dll.
I am sure I don't need all of these references but I figured it does not hurt to have them all referenced for now. I have the latest OS service and Visual Studio 2008 service packs.
I have started working on the module based application (plugin based architecture) and client want setup of module that can be run later and added automatically in main application. So, what I am thinking to apply in module setup project is to find the installation directory of main application and then paste dll of module in specific sub-directory.
Is it possible? Is there any other way to add feature in main application later using setup?
I am trying to publish a project. Via the publish wizard I have published the project. So I have:Project.applicationSetup.exeand a directory application files in which:Project.applicationProject.exe.deployProject.exe.manifest. When I start the setup it does it's thing (only one question: do you want to install ...etc) and 2 seconds later its done.
Problem:
1. I can't find the installation directory... (I can find the app in the 'add/remove programs' but not anywhere in program files or ..)
2. there are a few xml and mdb files I want to include in de project (or else the project does not work).
But because of (1) I don't know where to do so. Or beter yet, I would like to include these files in the installer.3. Why doesn't the installer ask me where I want to install?
I've created a new WCF Service Application. When I navigate to [URL] I get: an unhandled microsoft.net framework exception occured in w3wp.exe [1806] Is this something caused by my VS installation or is it something everyone is getting?
View 1 RepliesI just finish my first application, and it is runing very nice on my computer, outsite IDE.But when I put it on another computer or in a virtual machine, i get some error and it is not running. In my application i have only controls, no dll, no nothing, except one picture.I have to mention that i have win7 on 64 bit and i use visual basic 2010 Express with netframework 4.0.
I also want to ask you what i have to do to make an install pack that contains microsoft installer and framework.I want to make a setup file with all this included.
I've seen a few people on here saying that you shouldnt use GoTo in VB.NET and to be honest I've tended to agree as I have never needed to use it and there is always another way of doing something without using it. However, I'm just wondering what is so bad about it? I actually noticed that Microsoft seem to use it a fair bit in the internal .NET framework code, which is what makes me wonder why people are so against it.
