Jul 2, 2009I have been tasked to fix a really old website (.net aspx vb). The website currently is not running well in IE8, Firefox, Chrome. The menus are displaying funny and some images are not correct, and in Chrome the complete header with menus and all is missing.
I am not a vb guy, and I have no idea where to start looking.
What will be the most common section that a website will start failing in new browsers?

Jun 12, 2010I'm running windows 7 64 bit and using VS 2010. I'm trying to use the filesystem.getfiles to find a file on the computer and return the path for it. However, when I search C:/ and its subdirectories, it always throws an error: "A first chance exception of type 'System.UnauthorizedAccessException' occurred in mscorlib.dll"
I've looked everyone online and can't find a solution. I have administrator privileges and really I dont want people who use my app to have to adjust security settings for this to work. Is there not a way to search the C drive for a specific file and return its path? [Code]

Jan 13, 2010First of all, using VB 2008.I'm writing my first VB program that will actually do anything, so I am about as noob as noob can get. I'll try to keep my question as simple as possible.
My program will have a password protected screen, but rather than "hard-coding" a password into the program, I'd like to give the user the option of changing the password to whatever he'd like. Obviously, without hardcoding the password into the program, this value would need to be stored somewhere outside the program in order for it to be available the next time the program is executed.
I know that the Windows registry is a place to save data like that, but are there other places (certain types of files, etc.) where this data is typically stored? I'm writing this program for work, and I'm not sure that my IT department will look favorably upon me messing around with the registry.

Apr 30, 2010I created a hangman game and It works well when I debug, but when I publish and place it on my son computer, when you guess a letter wrong it shows an error and says it can't find the images. I am having a problem identifying if a share where my referenced dlls reside is in the "intranet zone" or "internet" zone relative to some user machine that is running my .NET application. I suspect this is a problem because I am having a problem accessing referenced dlls from a share on some machines but not others. How can I tell which zone .NET is classifying that share in so I can adjust permissions accordingly?

Jun 12, 2012I'm trying to write a program right now for my computer science class for a program where you insert text into a text box, (the text being a password), and then click a submit button. The goal of the assignment is to have a program that looks at the user given password and see if it matches the const password (or one of the three const passwords in my case). If it doesn't, it is supposed to loop back so you can re-input the password. Also, If you enter the correct password, the loop ends and you are to get a msgbox (or, in my case three different ones), and then the application closes. We are to write the code so that if the password is wrong "x" (insert 3 as the number I have chosen), a MsgBox will pop up with a message saying
something along the lines of "you have gotten the password wrong to many times.", and then the application is supposed to close. I don't think I could rant on much more, I've done a good (or in my eyes terrible) job of summarizing the assignment.

My problem (aside from, I don't know, a problem with my code itself) is that when It reaches the loop, it goes through all the code again, but I'm unable to change the user given password, and so it just pops up the three failed password entry MsgBoxes (the code for which is temporarily removed), then the failed to many times MsgBox, OR one of the successful message boxes. What I'm wondering is if anyone can help me fix my code so that it functions as desired.
