I'm trying to make a program (in VB 2008 Express Edition) that will take text (from a textbox) and then switch the letters (say a->f and A->F) and will put the result into a second textbox when I click a button. How do I code the program so that it will search through the textbox and find all of a certain letter (say a) and replace it, then search for the next letters (say b-z) and replace them?

I have to find a string in a huge text file ( ~ 50MB) and then replace it.Since it's quite huge I tend to open the file and then read line by line, and then replace the necessary line(s) (rather than "readall" the file of course).My question is how to replace the whole line?Let's say I found the line that should be replaced . I know I can create a copy file and copy all lines into there ... but I'd prefer to replace the line in the original file rather than creating a copy instance.

I've been looking at this for a while and I'm stumped. I'm under the impression that if I use strOpass = strOpass.Replace(":d", "Z") that I should be seeing any numbers that a user inputs the code line there will return a Z. It's not working and I don't understandI've also tried "[0 - 9]" and :z, but the program is still returning the original input.B is not giving me a hard time over that line ( no errors or warnings. ) The other statements work just fine and return a X just like they should. The file reads in parameters and two of the parameters used to be in Date Format YYYYMMDD but will now permanently be in format YYYY-MM-DD. This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. If I have more than 100 customers I'd be spending all day to find the right customer by using the previous and next buttons, so I want to have a textbox and a search button. I know how to use the string.IndexOfMethod() so I was thinking I could find the first letter, mark that position, and search again from there. Then I would keep looping until the end of the letter. But I'm not sure how to signal the end of the loop.
I want to take a string from a text box and split each letter of the string into an array. Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)

This searches for this value using PackageIO (any other options you guys think would be faster would be great) and will return how many instances of that value have been found. There is a second textbox and button that will only be enabled if 1 instance is found. If more than one instance is found, an error message pops up. I'm not too experienced with PackageIO.
