Mar 4, 2011I am using this to loop through a directory and grab the last modified date for all of the files. How I do find the last or most recent modified date?

Oct 10, 2011I have a folder that can (hundreds currently) but upwards of 10's of thousands of files. I have a program that gets all file names, and sorts them based upon set criteria and displays them in a treeview. My issue is right now a few hundred files moves fairly quickly when getting files name (path.getfiles), sorting, and returning sorted list for further search and display. My concern is when the number of files starts to increase, alot of these functions will take exponentially longer to perform. Especially my organizing function.
Because my files are part numbers <PartNum><Rev><SubRev><ManuNum>.<extension> I first sort out all different Part numbers first making the list manageable (maximum of a few thousand). Then as you choose a part number to work with, it retrieves all files associated with that part number (maximum of a few hundred).
My concern is everytime I need to look for a file in anyone of those steps, I have to import all file names, search and return correct file path, and Im sure this will become slow as the number of files increase. I dont mind having it do it once then update the list as needed. So I was thinking import and sort all file names at load, and check every so often for and files that might have been modified recently and just update it's entry in the sorted list. But this means my program has to stop, and check all files for changed "modified" time, which too will be slow-ish.

Aug 4, 2010How can I get VB.NET to find the folder that begins with "17014 -"? The actual Folder is called "17014 - Mr John Smith", but I want it to search only upto the "-" (hyphen) point.
I will then use this to check if the folder exists or not.

Now I have problem when i fire a query SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE tbl_name.datefield= (Select Max(tbl_name.datefield) from tbl_name)); I have some records with dates 11/1/2011 and some records with dates 8/2/2011 but I get wrong result records with date 11/1/2001 instead I want records with date 8/2/2011

I have a populated listview of say 100 image directories. of those 100 images, there are groups of 20-30 images. this number isn't always the same, but would be between 20-30 per group. the time stamp would be within 5 minutes on each grouping. how would I go about pulling the most recent only of the 100 or so images? the most recent within about 5 minutes on the time stamp.

The hiearchy I currently have is "MenuStrip>File>Recent Files>File1".
I have a function which saves the files and opens them. It also stores the file name and file path in sperate variables:

I would be able to change the text property of the File1 (File1ToolStripItem) to the SaveFileName easily, but how would I make it so that when you click the File1 (File1ToolStripItem) it opens the Savefile file?
I would also need the program to save this list so when I open the program again they are still there.
Datagridview On Datarepeater Showing Only Most Recent Fill
Jun 14, 2010Is there any way to have a datagridview on a datarepeater with more than 1 row showing?
I have a datagridview on a datarepeater control. The datarepeater and the datagridview are joined on a common field in 1-to-many fashion. The form is designed so that there are 2 rows of the datarepeater visible at any one time. The datagridview is populated in the datarepeater's drawitem event The problem is that it behaves as if there is only one datagridview total rather than one datagridview per row. The drawitem event executes when you scroll to a row. Because 2 rows of the datarepeater are visible, the fill code is executed twice when the form is opened. But the second fill overrides the first one. So you've got this form with 2 different rows but the data in both datagridviews is the same but is right only for the bottom one.
Is there any way to correct this? If I made only 1 row visible, that would eliminate the wrong data. But I want to be able to show more that 1 row at a time.

Feb 20, 2012I'm trying to load the most recent file from a directory, but my following code doesn't work. Am i getting something obvious terribly wrong?!

I get two error messages:

How To Add Recent File History (Last 3) To Main Menu
Mar 11, 2011How to add a file history to my Main Menu. I open my windows application and select a txt file to open called "File 1". Later I open "File 2" and "File 3". I have now closed the windows application. A day later I open my windows application again. How do I view the recent files selected to my FILE menu? For example, I would expect to see "File 1", "File 2", and "File 3" under recent files. This would allow the user to easily reference the past recent files that were opened. Word and Excel have the feature and I am sure it can be done in VS2005.

If I subsequently create a WORKORDR (using a different DB connection), the code will not pick up the new "next order number."e.g.

will return the same value to both iFoo and iFoo2. If I Close and then reopen serverDB, as part of the "NewOrderNo" function, then it works. iFoo and iFoo2 will be correct. Is there any way to force a "System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection" to refresh the database in this situation without closing and reopening the connection. e.g. Is there anything equivalent to serverdb.refresh or serverdb.FlushCache

Aug 4, 2006The Projects List on my Start Page is not being populated with the Projects I open. It's empty.Does anyone know what could be the problem? I can see the entries being recorded in the Registry key:

Modified Outside Of Editor?
May 21, 2011VB express.yesterday my computer started squawking about the project that I was running in debug being edited outside of the editor, and did I want to reload.The message box gave me four choices: Yes, Yes to All,No,and No to All.It started doing it when I had a new project with nothing but a multiline text box that I was trying to use to display the numbers in a for next loop there was practically nothing there that I did.It squawked about that for projects that I ran many times before, and haven't edited at all recently.It kept coming back repeatedly.So far as I know, I have edited nothing outside the editor.What would I be reloading?

Sep 8, 2010I have a number of files in a folder, I need to get the last modified date. So I used FDate = IO.File.GetLastWriteTime(FName) Works fine with some files, but on others, I get a date of 1/1/1601. But when I check the files in Windows Explorer, all the dates look normal (recent). So, I'm gessing there are multiple files dates stored in the file system, and the ones dotnet is seeing are not the ones windows is seeing. How can I get exactly the date which appears as "date modified" in a file explorer window? I tried some vb6 api stuff but that doesn't seem to work in dotnet.

-x contains same set of files in a,b,c
whenever any file gets modified in a, it should get also modified in b and c as well
similarly b->a,c and c->a,b
my idea of implementation is -when ever any file is modified on a server, compare timestamps and force copy the modified in the other two How should i go for implementing it?
1)how to check if a file is modified
2)how often this check should be done and how this should be implemented should a service be running to perform thi check i want to do this using .NET?
