because a State names and Country names can be retrived from earlier entries, i want to allow user to select desired name from a list in combo box or a list in Auto Complete Custom Source for text box, to do this i have added a Table Adapter to underlying DataSet having Query "SELECT DISTICT STATE FROM CITY ORDER BY STATE".
Now, how do i use this Table Adapter to fill the ComboBox List without binding
And also Custom Source List for TextBox.
I am using a Strongly Typed Dataset as DAL. I want to return a single column from my table for that i wrote the code as
SELECT DISTINCT Floor
FROM Room
WHERE (Building = @Building)
But when i previewed the data, it shows me all the columns of the table with Null Value and the column with primary key has -1 value. This condition raise an Exception when i link this query to a ComboBox ..

I created a DataSet using the DataSources wizard. I can display the rows of each Datatable one at a time. But in this case, I needed to add a new DataTable (newDT) using the Add New Table Adapter control(?) on the toolbox. newTable is derived by JOINing three different existing tables (or, dataTable) in my DataSet designer. The query works fine and returns all the data as expected. Trouble, if I try to display the rows of the newDT on textboxes, I get a NULLREFERENCE Exception.

I could hard-code in the column names ("WO_Number",WO_CustID","CustLastName", etc...), but would prefer to pick this up dynamically (partly because I want to reuse this code later).
Ive completed this code, and it enters names into the combobox, but not any of the tables that i have created. I have checked that they have been created and they have. An ideas?

I have a combobox which is populated from a dataset (pulling values from the column Actuator_ID). When an item is selected from the combobox, I need to return another value from the dataset (column Gateway_Channel). In the 'selectedindexchanged' sub, I have the following line which should return the value from the second field (gateway_channel) but whatever item is selected in the combobox, only the value from the first row is returned.

Basically, This is a projects form and the user needs to select the the primary contact which is contrained by the customer id (GETbyCustomerID) set in another field. I have it working... mostly except the combobox only displays the contact ID which is completely useless to the user. I am using the following code for a combobox to display a series of codes depending upon the value entered in combobox1. This works fine except the column being displayed contains a 6 character field (A99999) and I would like to display only the last 5 numeric characters rather than the whole column. otherwise I shall have to add an additional field into the table which contains just the numeric part of the code.

I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.

I have edited the column headers and set the column names to the same values as my table names yet the data is not showing in form load I have set datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False I know the data is there if I delete datagridview.AutoGenerateColumns = False then the data is shown with the default headings?
I created a dataset in Visual Studio 2010 containing two tables: tblCategories and tblAnswers. tblCategories has two columns: CategoryNumber (AutoNumber and primary key) and CategoryName. tblAnswers has three columns: AnswerNumber (AutoNumber and primary key), Answer, and CategoryNumber. The CategoryNumber columns in each table are related. I have a command button which I want to use to add a record to the CategoryName column in tblCategories with the data typed in a textbox. When I try to access the dataset to add a new row(dataset.tblCategoriesDataTable.NewRow), the NewRow method isn't present. I've done some reading which suggests that I need a TableAdapter, but it seems like that is for connecting to an external file because I have to select a connection. I have no external SQL files or database. I want the user to be able to create a database within my program.
View 1 RepliesI've got a typed dataset. I bind the data with a binding source to a form with arround 200 textboxes, dataedits and so on. Everything works fine with one exception:In my database I have empty DateTimes (DBNull.Value). And when they get bound to a DateEdit-Control, I get the following exceptions:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.StrongTypingException' occurred in myTestDLL.dll
I tried to change the NullValue-Property in the DataSet-Desinger to something else as 'Throw Exception', but it doesn't work for a DateTime. For other types like Integer or String it works fine.I dont know a nice solution (right now I fill the empty dates with some dummy date and make it invisible in the DateEdit-Control, but this is very uncool) and I hope to find some help here.

Now as you can see I have a variable that holds a value member of the combo box Products which is the productID of the current product selected. Then it searchers through the products datatable and once its found the correct product or not it stores the answer in slectedproductrow. next I test to see if selected product row has found the product if it has i then see if the product has already been added to the order by seraching the the customer current order datatable if it hasn't it adds the current information to the order by using selected product row.
Now the problem i get is when i add the same product it still adds the information again as currentorderrow comes back as nothing everytime even if the product has been added before but if it was in the table which it should be it should skip that bit and just go to add the current qtys toghther.Also if i go to add a diffrent product it overwrites the the other one. So i can't store the customer order. Its like i can't store more than one row. By the way I have a datagrid and can see the product get over wrriten.
